Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will travel to McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta, Georgia, in which to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in ACC college basketball action. The Yellow Jackets continue to struggle on the season as they have dropped three of their last four games along with two straight after falling to the Louisville Cardinals by a whopping 28 points at home. Georgia Tech could only muster 16 points at the half while allowing 43 points to the Cardinals in this contest as they ended the game shooting 38% from the floor while going 1-10 from the three-point range. Louisville, on the other hand, shot 47% on the night while forcing a whopping 17 turnovers en route to the victory.
Notre Dame has also had a rough go of it lately as they are losers of five of their last six games overall, as they fell at home to the North Carolina State Wolfpack in their last time out as 40% shooting from the floor was all the team could muster on the night. And despite getting 19 points each from Dane Goodwin along with John Mooney, the Wolfpack was able to shoot slightly better from the floor at 44% while also getting 23 points from CJ Bryce, who went a perfect 5-5 from long range in the slim victory.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 's Latest Performance :
And while Notre Dame’s offense has been atrocious throughout the season as well as lately, their defense has certainly took up the slack during their current skid as they allowed just 40% shooting to the NC State Wolfpack in their last outing. Of course, the problem was that Notre Dame was only able to shoot 40% from the floor on the night while making good on just seven of 28 attempts from three-point range as Goodwin and Mooney paced the offense with 19 points each, as stated. Temple Gibbs along with DJ Hardy finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Fighting Irish as Harvey went 1-7 three-point range in what was a tight game throughout as NC State took a slim two-point lead at the half while narrowly outscoring Notre Dame in the second half en route to the much-needed conference victory.
In all, the loss was the second time in as many games that Notre Dame lost by six points or less, which can certainly be a testament to their solid defense, especially when considering how bad their offense has been lately. Nonetheless, their offense may indeed struggle in this matchup as well as Georgia Tech ranks as one of the best in the nation, despite giving up 79 points in their last outing in a blowout to Louisville. Also, one can certainly expect the Yellow Jackets to assert themselves early and often on this end of the floor versus the Fighting Irish as well.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets's Latest Performance :
It will be important to note that Georgia Tech is averaging 69 points per game this season on 46% shooting from the field. With that being said, in their last three losses, the Yellow Jackets have averaged just 52 points. Versus the Louisville Cardinals, Georgia Tech was simply atrocious as they shot 38% from the floor while connecting on just one 3-point attempt throughout the contest. Furthermore, the Yellow Jackets were certainly able to get to the free-throw line throughout the contest as they graced the line a total of 24 times; Yet, made good on just 12 of those attempts.
The Cardinals also heavily outrebounded Georgia Tech by a 41-27 margin for the game while also forcing 17 costly turnovers for a Yellow Jackets team that continues to slide on the offensive end. James Banks III, however, recorded a double-double for the Yellow Jackets in this contest as he finished the game with 23 points while pulling down 11 rebounds. Jordan Nwora, on the other hand, led Lousiville with 25 points along with eight rebounds as he went ten for 16 from the field in the victory.
Coincidentally enough, the 79 points that they allowed to the Cardinals was the highest scoring output for a Georgia Tech opponent in their last 10 games. Nonetheless, Georgia Tech will certainly look to get back to basics, particularly on the defensive end of the floor, as they will face a Notre Dame Fighting Irish squad that has struggled on the offense all year long. In fact, Notre Dame entered their most recent matchup vs NC State Wolfpack at home not surpassing the 70-point market in their four games prior.
How Notre Dame Fighting Irish & Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Notre Dame is 7 – 11 against the spread while the OU is 8 – 10
Georgia Tech is 12 – 6 against the spread while the OU is 7 – 10
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
One can certainly look for a very exciting and possibly low-scoring contest amongst these two teams on Tuesday night. On one hand, Notre Dame will be looking to erect themselves from a rough patch of play where they are losers of four of their last five overall, as stated. On the other hand, Georgia Tech has also gone through a rough patch as well, as pointed out, and will be looking to get back on track at home, where they are winners of three of their last five; However, Georgia Tech has lost their most recent two home games as they fell to the Virginia Tech Hokies and, of course, Louisville.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
My reason for the pick :
Look for the Jackets to get back on track vs. a Notre Dame team that will certainly bring their A-game on the defensive end of the floor; However, the Fighting Irish will not be able to hold up on the offensive end throughout the contest as the home team will begin to pull away at some point. Again, despite both teams being less than stellar on the offensive end, look for both to push the pace in this contest in which to gain some easy buckets in transition. I feel as though Georgia Tech will certainly implement this philosophy much more efficiently on Tuesday night as they will pick up a much-needed conference victory while temporary stopping their bleeding, so to speak.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the under in this contest as the defenses that will be taking the floor on this night are two of the best in the nation. With that being said, when one considers the state of the offense for both squads, currently, the under is indeed the strong play in this instance.
