Purdue Boilermakers vs Ohio State Buckeyes
The surging Purdue Boilermakers will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Ohio State’s offense continues to struggle as they are losers of four straight games after being defeated by the Maryland Terrapins at home in their last time out. In this contest, Maryland was totally able to neutralize a dismal offense for the Buckeyes as the home team shot just 39% from the floor along with 22% from three-point range. On the other hand, the Buckeyes, who only allow just 40% shooting to opponents on a nightly basis in 2018-19, allowed the Terrapins to shoot 53% from the floor as well as a whopping 60% from three-point range as Anthony Cowan along with Bruno Fernando led the team with 20 points while Fernando chipped in 15 points while pulling down a whopping 13 rebounds in the much-needed victory for Maryland. With the loss, Ohio State fell to the tenth place within the Big Ten Conference.
Purdue has certainly rebounded from a blowout loss to Michigan State Spartans recently as they have won three straight games with their last being over a lackluster Indiana Hoosiers squad at home as Purdue neutralized the offense for Indiana in this contest as well as they shot just 39% from the floor, as a team, while not surpassing the 30-point mark in either half of the contest. The Boilermakers, on the other hand, shot 49% from the floor while also getting 20 points from leading scorer on the season in Carson Edwards, who struggled from the floor in going 6-18 on the night along with a dismal 3 – 10 from long range in the victory.
Purdue Boilermakers's Latest Performance :
The Purdue Boilermakers find themselves in fourth place within the Big Ten Conference at this point in the season as they have won three straight games, as pointed out, while also being winners of seven of their last 10 games, overall. In all, they made light work of a struggling Indiana Hoosiers team in their last outing at home as they were able to shoot 49% for the game while Edwards certainly sparked the offense with 20 points on the night. Matt Haarms along with Nojel Eastern chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Purdue team that entered the matchup averaging 87 points per game.
And while their offense was certainly not as accurate as it has been recently, the Boilermakers were able to pick up a blowout victory, nonetheless, while also winning the rebounding battle over Indiana in addition to also forcing 13 turnovers en route to victory. Justin Smith along with Lawan Morgan had 15 and 14 points for the Indiana Hoosiers, which fell to ninth in the conference, overall.
In all, Purdue will certainly be looking to have a huge performance in this contest as they will matchup versus the Spartans of Michigan State at home in their next outing. And despite losing their last two home games, the Buckeyes are winners of four of their last six games on their home court. Also, the Boilermakers are losers of two of their last three road games, overall, yet are coming off of an overtime road win versus the Wisconsin Badgers in their last outing away from home, which ultimately sparked their recent winning play.
Ohio State Buckeyes's Latest Performance :
The Ohio State Buckeyes continue to slide within the conference as they are winless in the Big Ten thus far in the season after dropping yet another and matchup to the Maryland Terrapins in their last outing, as stated. The offense, which continues to shoot 40% from the floor on a nightly basis in 2018-19, shot under 40% from the floor while going 6-24 from three-point range as CJ Jackson along with Duane Washington Jr combined to go only 3 – 14 from 3-point range, yet led the team during the contest in the scoring department.
On the other hand, the Ohio State defense, which have allowed opponents only 40% shooting on a game-by-game basis, allowed well over 50% shooting from the floor as well as from three-point range to a Maryland Terrapins team that was very dominant on the night while also connecting on 11 3-pointers as well in the victory as Cowan was responsible for three 3-pointers for the night as he ended with 20 points, as stated. Again, Fernando pulled down 13 rebounds while posting 13 points in addition to Jaylon Smith chipping in 11 points while also pulling down six rebounds.
While Maryland slightly outrebounded the Buckeyes in this contest, Ohio State was unable to capitalize off a whopping 18 turnovers as their offense certainly looked anemic throughout. In their last four outings, Ohio state has only surpassed the 70-point mark only once. On the other hand, the defense for Ohio State that allows opponents just 64 points per game on the season, has allowed opponents to increase their scoring output by nearly 12 points during their four-game skid.
The Buckeyes may indeed run into additional problems on the offensive end versus a Purdue team that has allowed an averages 55 points in their last two games, overall. On the other hand, the offense for Purdue has heated up as well and will provide a huge challenge to a defense for the Buckeyes that will be looking to put in a much better performance on this end of the floor on Wednesday night.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will certainly be an interesting game for both teams as Ohio State will be looking to erect themselves out of their current losing streak. On the other hand, Purdue will be looking to have yet another fantastic outing in preparation for their matchup with the Michigan State Spartans at home. With that being said, look for Purdue to kickstart their offense early and often while also taking advantage of an Ohio State defense that has somehow lost its way recently. On the other hand, Purdue’s defense has been solid as well throughout the season and will look to put the clamps on an Ohio State offense that has struggled mightily, also as pointed out, recently within the Big Ten schedule.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Purdue Boilermakers
My reason for the pick :
I will back Purdue in this contest as Ohio State has simply not proven that they can play with any type of consistency on either side of the ball lately. With that being said, look for Purdue to add to their momentum of their last road win versus the Wisconsin Badgers while picking up an all-around victory in this contest. Of course, there is always the possibility that the Badgers will look ahead to their matchup with Michigan State later on in the week, which could ultimately make this game interesting. However, Purdue has been very consistent thus far in this season and I certainly expect them to show and prove in picking up a win over a team to whom they should dominate throughout.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
With Ohio State falling within the Big Ten standings, one should certainly look for them to gain a bit of momentum by having a solid performance versus a Purdue Boilermakers team that has been on fire lately. On the other hand, with a matchup with Michigan State looming along with Purdue looking to stay relevant within the conference moving forward, one can also expect the Boilermakers to also be motivated to get onto the floor in this matchup. In all, one can expect a highly competitive contest to where I happen to feel as though both defenses will take center stage as the under has been the play in three of the last four games for the Buckeyes, overall. Also, while the over has been the result of the majority of games for the Boilermakers, recently, they are only averaging 69 points in their last three road games, overall
