Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
George Mason Patriots vs Dayton Flyers
The George Mason Patriots will travel to University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, Ohio, in which to take on the Flyers on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in an all-important Atlantic 10 Conference matchup. Dayton is currently in sixth place within the conference as they atoned for a recent loss to the Virginia Commonwealth Rams in their prior outing by picking up the victory over the Saint Bonaventure Bonnies, most recently, as they needed overtime in which to pick up a slim, three point victory, in the end. In fact, Dayton needed a furious second-half rally in which they outscored the Bonnies 38 – 35 in which to force overtime, where they outscored the home team 20-17 en route to the much-needed victory.
George Mason continues to impress within the Atlantic 10 as they have won three straight games, with their last being a three-point win over the Fordham Rams as the Patriots overcame a rough shooting first half to where they went down by three at the half by regaining their wits on both ends of the floor in outscoring the Rams 47-40 in the second half en route to the victory. Leading scorer for the season in Justin Kier pumped in 18 points while also pulling down nine rebounds in the victory while Otis Livingston II also chipped in 17 points as well as the Patriots find themselves in second place within the Atlantic 10 Conference, just behind the Billikens of St Louis.
George Mason Patriots's Latest Performance :
As stated, George Mason has done well for themselves lately as they are not only winners of seven of their last eight games, overall, but are undefeated within the Atlantic 10 at this point in addition to being hot on the heels of the top-ranked team within the conference in the St Louis Billikens. Nonetheless, a win in this instance versus the Dayton Flyers can certainly be big for the team.
In their last outing versus the Fordham Rams, the Patriots encountered a bevy of headaches as Fordham played a solid first half while also going up by four points at the break. Nonetheless, George Mason was able be a bit more consistent in the second half as they ended the game shooting 47% from the floor while being able to connect on 10 three-pointers, which kept them in the game.
Justin Kier along with Otis Livingston II led the team in scoring with 18 and 16 points, respectively, while the defense, which has been very dominant as of late, allowed just 43% shooting for Fordham. And despite allowing 10 three-pointers on the night, George Mason was able to capitalize off 13 three-pointers throughout the contest in which to pull out the slim victory.
The Patriots will now move forward in which to face a Dayton Flyers team that also finds itself in the thick of things within the Atlantic 10 Conference. Furthermore, Dayton is undefeated in their last five home games, overall, while three of the last four Road games for the Patriots resulted in victories, aside from a one point road lost to what has become a solid Kansas State Wildcats earlier in the season.
Dayton Flyers 's Latest Performance :
The Dayton Flyers have won seven of their last eight games, overall, as they were able to atone for a loss to the VCU Rams in their last outing, as stated, by picking up a victory over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. As pointed out, the win did not come as easily as it should have, however, the Flyers are lucky to have escaped with an overtime, three point victory in the end as they relied on a balanced scoring attack which entailed six double-digit scorers led by Ryan Mikesell with 21 points in the victory as the Flyers were able to shoot 50% from the floor while connecting on 10 three-pointers on the night.
In all, Dayton is no stranger to competing in tight games as three of their last four contests were decided by six points or less. Despite this, the Flyers are shooting a tad over 50% from the floor on a nightly basis while their defense is only allowing opponents to shoot at a 40% clip on a nightly basis. They will certainly want to bring their A-game in this matchup versus a surging George Mason Patriots squad that has not allowed opponents to score or surpass the 70-point mark in nine games.

With that being said, one can expect a highly competitive and possibly low-scoring contest among the two teams that can certainly put points on the board, however, tend to rely on their defense in which to limit offensive opportunities throughout the course of a contest.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: George Mason Patriots
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Patriots in this contest as I happen to feel that they are indeed the slightly better team at this point in the season. Also, when considering that George Mason has not allowed opponents to score 70 points or more in quite some time, one has to conclude that the Patriots indeed have the inside track on getting the victory in this contest. With that being said, look for this to be a highly competitive matchup, as stated, as the road team will begin to pull away from Dayton late in the contest in which to pick up the huge conference victory.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the under in this contest as I happen to feel as though both defenses will take center stage in what will be a low-scoring and very competitive contest amongst these two Atlantic 10 squads. As stated, with so much on the line including division positioning, one can certainly expect both defenses to hunker down throughout the course of this matchup in which to ensure that the total will not be surpassed. It will be important to note that the under has been the result in seven of the last 10 games, overall, for the George Mason Patriots, to whom I feel will certainly have the bulk of the momentum entering into this contest.

Betting trends for Dayton Flyers :
- The Flyers are 2-7 against the spread in last 9 games
