Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
George Washington Colonials vs Davidson Wildcats
The Davidson Wildcats are set to return home to the John M. Belk Arena for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will play host to the George Washington Colonials in an Atlantic 10 clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 7:00 PM. Davidson has enjoyed a good season as they are currently 4-1 in A-10 play which is good enough for 3rd place while George Washington has struggled this year as they are 6-12 on the season.
George Washington Colonials's Latest Performance :
George Washington was once the face of the A-10 as they racked up 3 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2004-2007 but they have struggled under 3rd-year coach Maurice Joseph as they are looking to avoid back-to-back losing seasons. The Colonials come into this game after losing in a hard-fought OT game against A-10 foe in the Duquesne Dukes 91-85. Leading the way for the Colonials was an unlikely source as sophomore forward Javier Langarica was able to record a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Langarica is only averaging 5.2 PPG and 3.1 RPG. The leading scorer on the season for George Washington has been junior guard D.J. Williams as he is averaging 13 PPG and 5.1 RPG, and he was able to eclipse that mark against Duquesne with 14 points and 7 rebounders. The Colonials were without a major piece against Duquesne as junior forward Arnaldo Toro did not suit up which is a major hit considering the Puerto Rican native is averaging just shy of a double-double with 10.1 PPG and 9.3 RPG. Another reason the Colonials were on the losing end against the Dukes could be because their 2nd leading scorer in Terry Nolan Jr. was held to only 5 points as he is averaging 12.2 PPG. Junior guard Armel Potter had a good game off the bench for Maurice Joseph and company as he contributed 14 points and 5 assists which is well above his season average of 5.2 PPG and 2.2 APG.
Davidson Wildcats's Latest Performance :
The Davidson Wildcats are seeking their 2nd consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance but more importantly seeking an A-10 title, and this might be the year to do it as there is not a clear cut favorite within the conference. Davidson was able to extend their conference record to 4-1 after a big win over the Richmond Spiders 75-62. Leading the way for the Wildcats was an unlikely source as freshmen guard Luke Frampton was able to record 24 points and 5 rebounds which is well above his season average of 10.8 PPG and 2.8 RPG. The leading scorer on the season for the Wildcats has been sophomore guard Kellan Grady as he enters this game averaging 18.1 PPG, but he fell just short of that mark against the Spiders as he recorded 13 points and 4 assists. Junior guard Jon Axel Gudmundsson has been a do-it-all type of guy for Davidson this season as he is averaging 15.9 PPG, 6.7 RPG, and 4.4 APG, and he was able to have a big outing in their latest outing as he contributed a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Davidson lost a major contributor in the frontcourt this past offseason but freshmen Luka Brajkovic has started to develop well for Bob McKillop as he is averaging 11.5 PPG and 6.5 RPG, the Austrian native recorded 9 points and 8 rebounds against Richmond. The one area Davidson would like to see improved is their bench play and their latest outing was an example of that as they only totaled 5 bench points.

Against The Spread Selection: Davidson Wildcats -15
My reason for the pick :
This spread seems a little inflated for a conference matchup but I find these two teams to be on different levels this season and with Davidson playing good basketball on their home court I will back them and the 15 points. Davidson has a number of weapons that they can go to as Grady and Gudmundsson are both averaging more than 15+ PPG while George Washington is limited in their scoring options especially with Toro out. Davidson is playing good defense as they are the 56th ranked scoring defense and that is a major mismatch for the 332nd ranked scoring offense in George Washington. Davidson is a perfect 9-0 on their home court this season and I think they continue winning at home in this one.
