Gonzaga Bulldogs vs Santa Clara Broncos
The Santa Clara Broncos are set to return home to the Leavey Center after playing on the road in their previous 3 outings and they will play host to the Gonzaga Bulldogs in a WCC clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 11:00 PM. Gonzaga is one of the top teams in the nation as they come into this game ranked 4th in the AP Poll while Santa Clara has been a middle of the pack team in the WCC as they are 3-3 in conference play.
Gonzaga Bulldogs 's Latest Performance :
The Gonzaga Bulldogs once again look like a threat to win the national championship as they are currently the 4th ranked team in the nation and we have seen them dominate WCC play as they have gone a perfect 5-0. Gonzaga comes into this game on a 9-game win streak after they were able to go on the road and beat the Portland Pilots 89-66. Gonzaga has talent all the way across the board and we have seen that throughout the season as 4 different guys average 10+ PPG, but their outing against Portland was something special as they had 7 different guys record double-digit points. The leading scorer on the season for the Bulldogs has been junior forward Rui Hachimura as he comes into this game averaging 20.1 PPG and 6.2 RPG, and he had a solid outing against Portland as he fell just short of a double-double with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Joining Hachimura in the frontcourt is junior Brandon Clarke and he has had a good season as he is the Bulldogs leading rebounder as he averages 7.8 RPG while contributing 16.5 PPG, Clarke was able to contribute 11 points and 6 rebounds against Portland. The top scoring guard for the Bulldogs is sophomore Zach Norvell Jr. as he averages 15.7 PPG, but he fell just shy of that mark in their latest outing with 14 points and 6 rebounds. The bench was a major contributor in the win especially junior forward Killian Tillie as he was able to record 10 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds.
Santa Clara Broncos's Latest Performance :
Santa Clara has not made the NCAA Tournament since 1996 which shows the state of this program and the strength of Gonzaga, but there is one positive for the Broncos as they have already tied their win total from last season which means they have improved. Santa Clara comes into this game looking to expand on their recent win over the Pacific Tigers 69-57. Sophomore guard Tahj Eaddy has been the leading scorer for the Broncos all season as he is averaging 16.3 PPG, and he was able to continue his hot hand in their latest game with 18 points and 4 rebounds. Joining Eaddy in the backcourt is freshmen guard Trey Wertz who is having a solid season in his first collegiate year as he is averaging 12.2 PPG and a team-high 5 APG, Wertz was able to hit that mark against Pacific as he recorded 15 points and 5 rebounds. The top rebounder for the Broncos is senior Josh Martin who comes into this game averaging 6.1 PPG and 8.3 RPG, but he was kept fairly silent in their latest outing as the Washington native was held to 2 points and 1 rebound. Sophomore Josip Vrankic has been the top guy in the frontcourt for Herb Sendek and company and we saw him have a big outing against the Tigers as he recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The bench was able to have an impact in their latest outing especially freshmen Keshawn Justice as he pitched in 11 points and 4 rebounds which is right around his season average of 10.7 PPG.

My reason for the pick :
Can you really bet against the Bulldogs in conference play as they aren’t only one of the best teams in the WCC but also the nation and they won’t let their foot off the pedal just yet as there is uncertainty in the top 10. Gonzaga has shown the ability to receive production from multiple sources while Santa Clara relies solely on their backcourt. Gonzaga is one of the top scoring teams in the nation and they are outscoring Santa Clara by 21 PPG which spells trouble for the Broncos. Gonzaga’s closest game in WCC play this season came on the road against San Francisco and the Bulldogs were still able to win by 13 points against the 2nd best team in the nation. Take the Zags and the 20 points.
