UC Riverside Highlanders vs Cal Poly Mustangs
The Cal Poly Mustangs are set to return home to Mott Gymn after playing on the road in their latest outing and they will welcome in the UC Riverside Highlanders in a Big West clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 10:00 PM. UC Riverside finally obtained their 1st conference win of the season in their latest outing while Cal Poly has struggled throughout the season and sit last play in the Big West.
UC Riverside Highlanders's Latest Performance :
UC Riverside has been a part of the Big West for 18 seasons now but the Highlanders have failed to record a winning season as well as have experienced 6 different head coaches during that span. The Highlanders were finally able to crack through and record their first conference win of the season this past weekend as they beat the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors at home 75-71. A struggle for UC Riverside has been consistent scoring performances from their starters as they only have 1 guy who averages above 9 PPG this season. Freshmen guard Dragan Elkaz had a monster outing for UC Riverside as he was able to contribute 25 points and 4 assists which is well above his season average of 8.4 PPG and .9 APG. The leading scorer on the season for the Highlanders has been junior guard Dikymbe Martin as he enters this game averaging 16.3 PPG, 3.4 RPG, and 2.9 APG, and he was able to eclipse this mark against the Rainbow Warriors with 19 points and 5 assists. The leading rebounder for the Highlanders has been sophomore forward Ajani Kennedy as he contributes 4.8 RPG as well as 8.6 PPG off the bench, Kennedy had a solid outing against Hawaii as he pitched in 8 points and 5 rebounds. UC Riverside was able to win this game without much production from starters Zac Watson and Dominick Pickett as the duo combined for 3 points while their season average is about 10.7 PPG.
Cal Poly Mustangs's Latest Performance :
Cal Poly has struggled as much as any program in Division 1 basketball as their lone NCAA Tournament appearance came back in 2014 after an amazing run in the Big West Tournament after going 14-20 during the regular season. Cal Poly is still winless in conference play through their 1st 3 games and their latest loss comes on the road against the UC Davis Aggies 75-63. Senior guard Donovan Fields is having a stellar season for the Mustangs this season as he enters this game averaging 16.8 PPG and 4.8 APG, but he was unable to do enough against UC Davis as he only recorded 14 points and 5 assists. The leading scorer in their latest outing was sophomore forward Mark Crowe and senior guard Marcellus Garrick as they both contributed 16 points apiece. Crowe is the 2nd leading scorer for the Mustangs this season as he enters this game averaging 11.2 PPG and 4 RPG, and he was able to impact the UC Davis game outside his 16 points as he contributed 4 rebounds and 3 assists. The leading rebounder on the season for the Mustangs is junior forward Hank Hollingsworth as he is averaging 5.4 RPG, but he was unable to find the bottom of the net in their latest outing as he only recorded 2 points to go along with 5 rebounds. The top guy off the bench for the Mustangs is senior forward Jakub Niziol as he is averaging 6.7 PPG and 4.3 RPG, and he was able to eclipse that mark against the Aggies with 8 points and 4 rebounds.

Against The Spread Selection: UC Riverside Highlanders
My reason for the pick :
Both teams have endured their struggles this season but I like what the Highlanders showed me in their game against Hawaii as they beat a very good team. UC Riverside will use it’s top 100 defense to keep one of the worst offenses in college basketball from doing much of anything which already spells trouble off the bat. The Highlanders also have the better player with junior guard Dikymbe Martin and may have started to untap the potential of freshmen guard Dragan Elkaz after his monster outing this past weekend. UC Riverside is fairly good ATS while Cal Poly has failed to cover the spread at home this season. UC Riverside gets their 2nd win of the Big West slate on the road against Cal Poly.
Betting trends for UC Riverside Highlanders:
- UC Riverside is 4-0 ATS in Big West games this season.
Betting trends for Cal Poly Mustangs:
- Cal Poly is 1-9 ATS after a loss this season.
