Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs Duke Blue Devils
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will travel to Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina, to face the 2nd ranked Duke Blue Devils for an all-important ACC matchup on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Blue Devils are winners of two straight games after they picked up a victory over the inconsistent Pittsburgh Panthers on the road as Zion Williamson along with RJ Barrett was the tip of the spear for the offensive charge as they scored 25 and 24 points respectively, as the Blue Devils shot just 43% from the floor yet capitalized off 13 turnovers for the Panthers en route to the victory.
On the other hand, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets halted a two-game losing streak by picking up a win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at home by a slim two-points as the Yellow Jackets held the Irish to just 32% shooting from the floor while they were able to convert on 48% of the shots of the night. Also, despite committing 14 turnovers of their own, Georgia Tech was able to capitalize off 13 turnovers for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in this contest as well while also narrowly outrebounding the visitors en route to the victory.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets's Latest Performance :
And while the offense as well as the defense for Georgia Tech took a while in which to get going in their most recent contest versus the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, the Yellow Jackets ended the game by stepping up on both ends of the floor as they allowed just 32% shooting to a struggling offense for the Fighting Irish while a dismal offense for the Yellow Jackets were able to connect on 47% of their shots on the night led by James Banks III along with Jose Alvarado who each had 16 points in the win.
On the other hand, John Mooney scored 22 points for Notre Dame to lead the team while also pulling down 14 rebounds as well. Nate Laszewski also provided a lift for the Fighting Irish as he chipped in 19 points off the bench while going 4-9 from long range in addition to pulling down six rebounds in defeat. Finally, Georgia Tech was not only outrebounded in this contest but committed 14 turnovers as well; Yet, their ability to perform consistently on both ends of the floor in this contest ultimately allowed them to pick up the victory.
Look for them to certainly lead with their defense in this contest as they will certainly face a daunting task in attempting to neutralize a Duke offense that is averaging 88 points per game while shooting a tad under 50% from the floor on a nightly basis this season.
Duke Blue Devils's Latest Performance :
And while the Blue Devils have regressed a bit on the offensive end in averaging just 74 points in their last two outings, a huge disparity from their 88 point per game average for the season, the Blue Devils continue to win as well as atone for their most recent loss in overtime to the Syracuse Orange. In all, Duke has won two straight games with their last being a road win over the Pittsburgh Panthers as the Williamson and Barrett connection was in full effect, yet again, as they each provided lifts for their team in scoring a combined 49 points on the night en route to the victory.
As stated, the Blue Devils did not shoot well at all from the floor in this contest, however, was able to limit Pittsburgh’s offensive opportunities as the Panthers shot just 40% from the floor on the night while connecting on just three of 19 3-point attempts as Trey McGowens led the team with 14 points while Tyrell Brown ended with 12 points while pulling down six rebounds in the loss for Pittsburgh, which fell to 12-7 on the year.
On the other hand, the Duke Blue Devils remain hot on the heels of the Virginia Cavaliers as they are currently second place within the Atlantic Coast Conference follow by the Tar Heels of North Carolina. Of course, the Blue Devils will be looking to ride their one-two punch of Williamson and Barrett in this matchup versus a tough-minded Georgia Tech team which specializes on limiting offense of opportunities for their opponents on a nightly basis. In fact, the Yellow Jackets currently rank within the top 25 teams in the nation in points per game as well as opponent shooting percentage per outing.
How Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets & Duke Blue Devils Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Georgia Tech is 13 – 6 ATS while the OU is 11 – 7
Duke is 11 – 7 ATS while the OU is 5-11
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Look for this to be a defensive-minded contest from start to finish as the Blue Devils will certainly be looking to continue to string together victories after their setback to the Orange, as pointed out. On the other hand, Georgia Tech will certainly look to feed from the momentum of picking up only their second win in their last five outings over a struggling Notre Dame Squad at home. The Yellow Jackets are winners of two of their last three road games, overall, while Duke, as one can expect, has certainly been dominant at Cameron Indoor Stadium lately as well as throughout the season.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Duke Blue Devils
My reason for the pick :
Look for Duke to sneak out a slim victory in this contest as Williamson and Barrett will once again prove why they are, in my opinion, the best 1-2 punch in college basketball at this moment. And while the Blue Devils may indeed struggle from the field throughout this contest versus a solid and stout Georgia Tech defense, look for them to hit critical shots at pivotal moments within the game in which to control the pace throughout. Of course, Duke’s defense has also been solid throughout the season and will cause headaches for a Georgia Tech offense that has trouble scoring with any type of consistency. In all, I expect the Blue Devils to pick up a huge conference win in this contest while also continuing to keep the pressure on the Virginia Cavaliers, as it relates to conference positioning.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the under in this contest considering the state of both defenses at this point in the season. As stated, Georgia Tech ranks within the top 25 as it relates to opponent points scored per game as well as opponent field-goal percentage on a nightly basis. Duke, on the other hand, is only allowing opponents to average 66 points per game on 38% shooting from the floor. With that being the case, expect this to be a defensive minded contest from start to finish as Georgia Tech will certainly struggle, once again, versus an aggressive Duke defense while the Blue Devils will put up just enough points in which to pick up the victory in the end.
