Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Iowa State Cyclones vs Ole Miss Rebels

The 25th ranked Iowa State Cyclones will travel to The Pavilion at Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi, to face the 20th ranked Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. eastern time in what will be one of the more interesting  battles of the weekend slate. After a stellar start to conference play, the Rebels have found themselves losers of two of their last three games as they suffered a defeat at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide in their last time out as they shot horribly from the floor as they would go down by 16 points at the half. On the other hand, Mississippi was also heavily outrebounded while also committing 16 turnovers on the night en route to the defeat.

On the other hand, the Iowa State Cyclones halted a two-game winning streak in their last matchup as they fell by four points to the Kansas Jayhawks in their last outing.  And despite taking a five point lead into the half, the Cyclones were not able to remain consistent on the offensive end as they were outscored 43 – 34 in the second stanza.  The Cyclones were able to connect  on 12 3-pointers on the night while Kansas converted on just 6 of 14 attempts during the contest as they shot over 51% from the floor with Dedric Lawson had a monster game in scoring 29 points while pulling down 15 rebounds in the much-needed victory for the Jayhawks.

Iowa State Cyclones's Latest Performance :

And while the Cyclones may have had a resurgent season in the eyes of many, they enter this matchup with the Mississippi Rebels losers in their most recent outing versus the Kansas Jayhawks as they failed to go undefeated versus their conference foe after a 17-point win earlier in the season as Kansas was able to return the favor by picking up a 4 point victory at Allen Fieldhouse.   Iowa State actually took a five-point lead into the half in this contest before Kansas rallied in the second half in outscoring them 43 – 34 during this time as they rode the back of Dedric Lawson, who ended the game with 29 points while also pulling down 14 rebounds, as stated.

And while the Cyclones struggled throughout the night on offense  in shooting just 43% from the floor, Marial Shayok led the offensive attack with 26 points as he also pulled down six rebounds while going 3-8 from three-point range. Talen Horton Tucker also chipped in 16 points in the win as well as Iowa state was able to connect on 12 3-pointers on the night in which to keep the game tight.

Defensively, Iowa State Cyclones were a bit uncharacteristic as they allowed over 50% shooting for the Jayhawks while Kansas also shot 40% from three-point range, as well. Also, 14 turnovers for the Cyclones certainly did not help their efforts in this contest as they will look to rebound versus the Rebels in this contest. Unfortunately for Iowa State, they may indeed struggle on the offensive end for yet another game as the Rebels are only allowing opponents to shoot 41% from the floor on a nightly basis.

Ole Miss Rebels 's Latest Performance :

After a promising start to the conference schedule, the Mississippi Rebels have suddenly lost their way on both ends of the floor lately as their are losers of two of their last three games, as stated, with their last being a road defeat at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide. And for an offense which posted 80 or more points in four of their last five games leading into their matchup with Alabama, the offense for Mississippi grinded to a halt in this outing as the Crimson Tide held them to just 26 points at the conclusion of the first half while shooting just 40% from the floor in the defeat. The Rebels also committed 16 turnovers in the contest while also being heavily outrebounded by 12 boards in the loss as well.

Terrence  Davis was the only double-digit scorer for the Rebels in this contest is he ended with 10 points while going 3-7 from the floor. Leading scorer on the season for the Rebels in Breein Tyree went 4-8 from the floor while ending with 9 points on the night. Defensively, they were able to allow Alabama to just 38% shooting from the floor as John Petty along with Dante Hall led with 15 and 11 points, respectively, as Hall was able to pull down 11 reboujnds in the contest as well.

Nonetheless, Mississippi still finds itself in 5th place within the SEC despite the loss. They will desperately be looking for a win in this contest versus the Iowa State Cyclones as this matchup can indeed be a resume building victory.  The Cyclones have certainly turn many heads this season due to their play in and out of conference. With that being the case, the they are also losers of two of their last three road games while the Mississippi Rebels are winners of four of their last five home games, overall.

How Iowa State Cyclones & Ole Miss Rebels Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Iowa state is 11 – 6 – 2 ATS while the OU is 6 – 12

Ole Miss is 15 – 3 ATS while the OU is  7 – 11

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for this to be an interesting SEC / Big 12 matchup as this will be one of the more interesting games of the weekend slate as the Mississippi Rebels will be looking to get back on the right track with a victory over a tough-minded Iowa State Cyclone squad.  As pointed out, both teams have gone through a rough patch recently within conference play and will look at this game as a resume building experience. With that being the case, look for things to be highly competitive in this contest as both teams will be looking to assert themselves on the defensive end, first and foremost, as this will be the key to the game, particularly with both offenses regressing in recent play.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Ole Miss Rebels

My reason for the pick :

Look for this to be a tight game throughout as I see both defenses taking center stage in a game where the Rebels will somehow pull out a slim victory in the end due to their ability to hit critical buckets down the stretch while hunkering down, even more, on the defensive end. As stated, Iowa State has not been known as an offensive Juggernaut this season, despite averaging 47% from the floor on a nightly basis. With that being said, look for a solid defense for the Rebels, which has regressed a bit lately, to put in a solid effort on the defensive end end in which to allow their team to pick up a huge victory in the end over Iowa State.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this contest as again, the defenses that would be taking the floor on this night happens to be two of the best in the nation. With that being said, look for both offenses to labor throughout this contest as the total will certainly not be surpassed. In all, the under has been the play in the last three games for the Ole Miss Rebels while being the result in three of the last four games for the Iowa State Cyclones. Look for the trends to continue in this contest in what will be a defensive showdown from start to finish.

Betting trends for Iowa State Cyclones:

  • The Cyclones are 6-2 against the spread in less a games

  • The under is 5-2 in Cyclones last seven games

Betting trends for Ole Miss Rebels :

  • The Rebels are 8-2 against the spread in last 10 games

  • The under is 8 – 2 in Rebels last 10 games
