LSU Tigers vs Missouri Tigers

The Missouri Tigers are set to return home to Mizzou Arena after playing on the road in their last 2 outings and they will welcome in the LSU Tigers in an SEC clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 6:00 PM. LSU has impressed through the early portion of conference play as they have stormed out to a 5-0 record which has also landed this team inside the top 25 in the AP Poll while Missouri has struggled in SEC play this year as they have only won 1 of their 5 games which has them pinned at the bottom of the conference.

LSU Tigers 's Latest Performance :

The LSU Tigers are a young but talented team and they have finally played up to expectations in SEC play as they are perfect through the first 5 games and have themselves ranked inside the top 25 after falling out earlier during the year. LSU comes into this game looking to extend their current win streak to 6 games after they were able to beat the Georgia Bulldogs at home in their latest outing 92-82. Sophomore guard Tremont Waters is the leading scorer on the season for the Tigers as he comes into this game averaging 14.2 PPG and 6.1 APG, and he was able to eclipse that mark against the Bulldogs with 26 points and 4 assists. Joining Waters in the backcourt is junior guard Skylar Mays and he comes just behind Waters in the scoring department as he averages 13.3 PPG, and he was also able to join Waters in the 20+ point department as he contributed 20 points in their latest outing. Freshmen forward Naz Reid was able to impact the game down low as he went 7 for 11 from the field which helped him record 15 points and 7 rebounds before fouling out of the game, Reid is having a solid season as he is averaging 13.2 PPG and 5.6 RPG. Freshmen forward Emmitt Williams is a spark for the Tigers off the bench as he is also the leading rebounder as he comes into this game averaging 6.6 RPG and 8.6 PPG, but he fell just shy of both mark against the Bulldogs as he pitched in 6 points and 5 rebounds. LSU was able to win this game with no problems but they will need to be improved from behind the arc as they were only able to go 5 for 20 from that spot.

Missouri Tigers's Latest Performance :

The Missouri Tigers were able to make the NCAA Tournament last season after a 4-year drought but they have regressed from that point as they have gone 1-4 in SEC play which has them looking to dig themselves out of the deep conference. The Tigers come into this match looking to avoid a losing streak as they most -recently went on the road and lost to the Arkansas Razorbacks 72-60. Sophomore guard Mark Smith was able to get hot against the Razorbacks as he went 6 for 11 from behind the arc which contributed to a big performance as he totaled 22 points and 7 rebounds, Smith enters this game as the 2nd leading scorer with 12.6 PPG and 5.5 RPG. The leading scorer on the season for Missouri is senior guard Jordan Geist as he comes into this game averaging 13.3 PPG and 3.2 APG, but he was unable to make an impact in the scoring department against Arkansas as he only recorded 7 points and 4 assists. Sophomore forward Jeremiah Tilmon is the leading rebounder on the season for Missouri as he comes into this game averaging 5.8 RPG and 9.9 PPG, and while the former top recruit contributed 9 points and 5 rebounds in their latest outing he also fouled out which limited his minutes. Freshmen guard Xavier Pinson came off the bench for the Tigers and was able to give them a small spark as he recorded 8 points which is slightly above his season average of 5.3 PPG. Missouri needs to keep the turnover rate down moving forward if they want any chance of sparking a run in the SEC and they failed to do that against Arkansas as they were turned over 24 times.

Against The Spread Selection: LSU Tigers

My reason for the pick :

Missouri has not looked good this season and a major reason why is because the Porter brothers are not a part of this program right now while LSU on the other hand has been one of the best teams in the SEC and have quietly gone about their business with their youth. LSU is one of the top scoring teams in the nation as they like to get up the court on you in a hurry and they are outscoring the 300th ranked Missouri offense by 16 points which spells trouble for the home team especially if they miss early shots. I expect the amazing backcourt duo of Waters and Mays to have a big part in this game as they are on a scoring tear in SEC play. LSU has also shown the ability to receive consistent production out of their bench while the same can’t be said about Missouri. LSU should have no problem winning this one on the road by 10+ points.
