Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Michigan State Spartans vs Purdue Boilermakers
The fifth-ranked Michigan State Spartans will travel to Mackey Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana, in which to battle the Purdue Boilermakers on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. eastern standard time for an all-important Big Ten matchup. The Purdue Boilermakers won their fourth straight game after picking up a win over the Ohio State Buckeyes as Carsen Edwards struggled from the field in going 6-18 for the night, however, was able to go 4- 7 from 3-point range while leading the team with 27 points en route to the victory. And while the defense for Purdue allowed Ohio State to shoot over 50% from the floor as well as convert on 10 three-pointers on the night, the Boilermakers shot 48% while converting 12 of 24 3-point attempts as they now find themselves within fourth place within the conference.
On the other hand, the Michigan State Spartans remain atop the Big Ten as they continue to dominate the opposition as they were able to post 82 points on a very solid Iowa Hawkeyes team in their last time out as Cassius Winston along with Nick Ward led the team with 23 and 21 points, respectively, while Kenny Goins finished with seven points along with eight rebounds in the convincing conference victory.
Michigan State Spartans's Latest Performance :
As stated, the Spartans had great performances from Winston as well as Ward with 23 and 21 points, respectively, in their victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes on the road as Michigan State connected on 8 3-pointers on the night, however, were able to shoot well over 50% on what has been a defensive-minded Hawkeyes team throughout the year. In fact, the Hawkeyes went into the half with a slim, four-point lead over the Spartans before Michigan State regrouped shortly thereafter in outscoring the home team by posting 51 points in the second stanza while allowing just 32 for Iowa.
And despite Michigan State going 20-21 from the free-throw line while heavily outrebounding Iowa this contest, they were able to pick up the victory despite just five turnovers from the Hawkeyes while committing 16 of their own. Cassius Winston has scored 20 or more points in four of the last six outings for the Michigan State Spartans and will certainly be looking forward to this matchup vs a Purdue team that is allowing under 70 points per game to opponents on 43% shooting on a nightly basis. In fact, during their dominant five-game stretch at home, Purdue is only allowing teams to average 58 points during this time.
Purdue Boilermakers's Latest Performance :
Purdue jumped out to an early 10-point lead at the half while cruising to victory on the road in their last matchup versus a struggling Ohio State Buckeyes squad as they were able to get 27 points from Edwards, as stated, while Ryan Cline along with Trevion Williams, also chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively, for a Purdue team that shot very well from the floor on the night. Nonetheless, one can certainly say that this game could have been a blowout for the Boilermakers had they not allowed over 50% shooting to the Buckeyes as Andre Wesson led the team with 22 points while going 4-5 from long-range to pace the offensive charge for the Buckeyes.
And while both teams certainly committed a bunch of turnovers in this contest with 18 apiece, Purdue outrebounded Ohio State in this contest while also going 21 of 25 from the free-throw line, which certainly was a huge catalyst in allowing them to pick up the road victory. The Boilermakers will now return home, where they are winners of five straight games, in which to battle a tough Michigan State squad that will be looking to win their fifth straight road game. Also, the Boilermakers will also be looking to exact a bit of revenge on the Spartans as they suffered a defeat in what was a blowout loss in their last meeting in Febuary of 2018 to the Spartans.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Michigan State Spartans
My reason for the pick :
While Purdue has certainly been dominant at home, as stated, look for Michigan State to pull out a grinding, hard-fought victory in the end in this contest due to their ability to hunker down on the defensive end, where they have been stellar all season in alllowing just 36% shooting for opponents, in which to sneak out with a victory in West Lafayette. Of course, one should also look for Purdue to bring their A-game for this contest, however, due to Michigan State’s ability to rely on Winston to make critical buckets at pivotal points within games, along with their solid defense, look for the Spartans to prevail in the end.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
The Michigan State Spartans have allowed opponents under 70 points in their last five outings. On the other hand, while the over has been the play in recent outings for the Purdue Boilermakers, look for them to hunker down on the defensive end versus a Michigan State team that can truly light things up, if given the opportunity. In all, one should certainly look for a defensive-minded contest amongst these two Big Ten rivals as the total will certainly not be surpassed due to the overall defensive prowess possessed by both squads.
