Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
South Carolina Gamecocks vs Oklahoma State Cowboys
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are set to return home to Gallagher-Iba Arena for their 2nd consecutive home game as they will welcome in the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Big 12-SEC clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 2:00 PM. Oklahoma State has struggled this season as they are 2-5 in Big 12 play and have lost 3 consecutive games while South Carolina has been as good as anyone in SEC games as they are 5-1 to start off conference play.
South Carolina Gamecocks's Latest Performance :
South Carolina has only made the NCAA Tournament 2 times since 1998 but that number looks like it will change this season as Frank Martin has his young group playing at a high level as they are currently sitting at 3rd in the SEC with a 5-1 conference record. South Carolina comes into this game looking to expand on their recent win over the 16th ranked Auburn Tigers 80-77. Senior Chris Silva has been one of the top players for the Gamecocks over his career and he was able to have one of his most productive games as he contributed 32 points and 14 rebounds against the Tigers, Silva is the 2nd leading scorer on the team with 13 PPG and the leading rebounder with 6.8 RPG. Freshmen guard A.J. Lawson is the leading scorer on the season for Frank Martin and company but he failed to find his stroke against the Tigers as he went 2 for 9 with only 7 points which is well below his season average of 13.2 PPG. Keyshawn Bryant is another freshman for the Gamecocks who has shown his youth throughout the season and we saw the Florida native struggle against the Tigers as he went 3 for 12 from the field with 6 points. Senior guard Hassani Gravett has been one of the top scorers in SEC play this season and he once again came off the bench and gave the Gamecocks a spark as he recorded 13 points and 6 assists. South Carolina was able to assert themselves on the glass in this game as they outrebounded the Tigers 40-34 as well as turned over the high powered offense 12 times.
Oklahoma State Cowboys's Latest Performance :
The Oklahoma State Cowboys have not gotten off to the start they expected this season as they currently sit 3 games below .500 on the season and have lost players to suspension and injuries which has left this team with 8 scholarship players. Oklahoma State comes into this game looking to break a 3 game losing streak as they most recently lost at home against the Oklahoma Sooners 70-61. Turnovers were a major issue for the Cowboys in this game as they gave up 13 while they also struggled to get to the free throw line as they only attempted 7 FTs. Junior guard Lindy Waters has been one of the main contributors for the Cowboys this season as he comes into this game averaging 12 PPG, and he was able to eclipse that mark against the Sooners as he went 4 for 8 from 3-point land which contributed to a 20-point performance. Junior forward Cameron McGriff has been the do-it-all guy for the Cowboys as he comes into this game as the leading scorer with 13.7 PPG as well as the leading rebounder with 8.1 RPG, McGriff was able to record 13 points and 5 rebounds in their latest outing. The Cowboys turned to junior guard Curtis Jones to give the team a spark off the bench and he played well as he was able to give Michael Boynton 9 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds in 25 minutes. The lack of depth really hurt the Cowboys in this game as they often found themselves on the court without a main scoring source as Waters sat for 5 minutes and Jones sat for 15.

Against The Spread Selection: South Carolina Gamecocks
My reason for the pick :
Usually I am all over the home team in college basketball but I just can’t get myself to back the Cowboys in this game as they have looked terrible over the past few games. South Carolina has really elevated their play as of recent as Frank Martin finally has his young guys playing into the system and he has reasserted the dominance of Chris Silva. Oklahoma State is really thin as they only play 7 guys a game and if any of the Cowboy’s get in foul trouble trying to guard Silva it spells major trouble. South Carolina is outscoring the Cowboys by 6 points this season and considering Oklahoma State has only covered the spread 3 times out of their 9 home games I will take my chances with the Gamecocks.
