Texas Longhorns vs Georgia Bulldogs
The Georgia Bulldogs are set to return home to the Stegeman Coliseum after playing on the road in their latest outing and they will welcome in the Texas Longhorns in the Big 12-SEC challenge, the opening tipoff is slated for 2:00 PM. Texas is below the .500 mark in the deep Big 12 as they enter this game with a 3-4 record while Georgia has struggled to find consistency in the SEC as they are 1-4 in conference play.
Texas Longhorns's Latest Performance :
The Texas Longhorns are looking to return back to the NCAA Tournament after appearing last season as a 10th seed but they have struggled in the deep Big 12 as they currently sit in 8th place with a 3-4 record. The Longhorns come into this game looking to avoid a losing streak as they most recently lost on the road against the TCU Horned Frogs 65-61. Senior guard Kerwin Roach flirted with departing for the NBA Draft after last season but his extra year in Austin has paid off as he is the leading scorer with 14.2 PPG as well as the leading rebounder with 3.5 APG. Roach was once again able to lead the way for the stagnant Longhorns offense as he contributed a team-high 15 points against TCU. Senior forward Dylan Osetkowski is the leading rebounder for Shaka Smart and company as he comes into this game averaging 9.8 PPG and 8.3 RPG, and he was able to eclipse that mark in their latest outing with 9 points and 10 rebounds. A reason the Longhorns were unable to win at TCU could be attributed to the 2nd leading scorer in Matt Coleman being kept in check as he was only able to record 3 points which is well below his season average of 10.3 PPG. Sophomore guard Jase Ferbs is the 1st guy off the bench for Shaka Smart and he was able to have an impact against the Horned Frogs with 7 points and 6 rebounds in 28 minutes of playing time. Texas isn’t a high scoring team but they are one of the better defensive units in the nation as they hold opponents to an average of 65.2 PPG.
Georgia Bulldogs's Latest Performance :
The Georgia Bulldogs are rebuilding the culture under 1st-year coach Tom Crean which has led to some unfavorable results but this is still a young team as 4 of their 5 starters will return for another season at the minimum. Georgia comes into this game looking to break a 4-game losing streak as their most recent loss came on the road against the ranked LSU Tigers 92-82. Sophomore forward Rayshaun Hammonds was a top 50 recruit for the Bulldogs a few years back and he has played like it this year as he is the leading scorer on the season as he averages 13.2 PPG and 6.3 RPG, Hammonds led the way against the Tigers with 18 points. Joining Hammonds in the frontcourt is sophomore Nicolas Claxton who is also the leading rebounder for the Dawgs as he averages just shy of a double-double with 13.2 PPG and 6.3 RPG, Claxton fell just short of a double-double in their latest outing with 15 points and 9 rebounds. The top guard for Georgia is junior Tyree Crump as he averages 9.8 PPG off the bench, but he was unable to find his stroke against LSU as he was held to only 5 points. Junior guard Jordan Harris started only his 2nd game of the season but he took advantage of the opportunity as he had the highest scoring output from the backcourt as he pitched in 10 points and 5 rebounds which is well above his season average of 4.8 PPG and 2.6 RPG. Georgia was a top 50 defense last season but they have regressed a great amount as they currently have the 233rd ranked scoring defense.

Against The Spread Selection: Georgia Bulldogs
My reason for the pick :
Both teams have struggled this season and need to scrape together some wins if they want momentum heading into the back end of the conference slate but the Georgia Bulldogs need this win more than the Longhorns as they are hungry for a win as they have lost 4 straight games. Georgia has a deep frontcourt as they have 4 guys that are capable of having an impact on the game and while Texas has some good starting forwards the bench is a little thinner at that position. Georgia will also try to use their depth to their advantage as they will keep the pressure on all game and try to place fast-paced, and when you have 9 guys who are capable of playing it becomes a dangerous asset. The Bulldogs have been great ATS at home this season and after losing on the road the home crowd will get behind the young Bulldogs and elevate this team to another level. Take the Bulldogs to secure a win on their home court.
