Vanderbilt Commodores vs Oklahoma Sooners

The Vanderbilt Commodores will travel to the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma, to battle the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time for an SEC Big 12 Showdown. Oklahoma had lost three of four games before picking up a victory in their last outing versus the Oklahoma State Cowboys as they were able to recover from a slim, six point deficit at the half in which to outscore the Cowboys 39 – 24 in the second half as they relied heavily on their ability to shoot efficiently from the floor at 51% while holding the Cowboys to just 42% shooting on the night en route to the victory.

The Vanderbilt  Commodores lost their sixth straight game to a solid Tennessee team at home in their last outing as they certainly played tough throughout in causing over time. However, the Volunteers were able to regroup in outscored the Commodores 12 – 7 in the extra session while also getting a monster game from Grant Williams who finished with 43 points while also pulling down eight rebounds in the victory. Jordan Bone also played well for the Volunteers as he scored 14 points on the night while dishing out seven assists.  The Commodores got 24 along with 21 points from Aaron Nesmith along with Saben Lee, however, committed 15 turnovers on the night, which certainly do not bode well for them picking up the victory.

Vanderbilt Commodores's Latest Performance :

And while Lee along with Nesmith sparked the team from an offensive standpoint, the  Commodores were not able to pull out a victory versus the Volunteers in their last outing as Tennessee obtained a monster night from its power forward, Grant Williams, as he powered in 43 points along with eight rebounds in the victory. Also, Jordan Bone ended the game with 14 points while dishing out seven assists for the top-ranked team in the nation. And while Vanderbilt was able to connect on 10 3-pointers on the night compared to just 5 for Tennessee, the Vols were able to make good on 29 of 32 free throws on the night while also capitalizing off 15 turnovers, as pointed out.

In all, Vanderbilt will certainly look to clean up the mental mistakes which presented themselves versus the Tennessee Volunteers as they face up with an Oklahoma Sooner squad that has gone through a rough patch on both ends before lately, however, their defense allowed only 38% shooting on the night. On the other hand, the 83-point output by the Vanderbilt Cardinals were their highest offensive output in their last six outings.

Oklahoma Sooners's Latest Performance :

The Oklahoma Sooners were able to withstand some accurate shooting early on from the Oklahoma State Cowboys as the home team was able to obtain a 6 point lead at the half. Nonetheless, Oklahoma was able to regroup in the second half, as stated, as they outscored the Cowboys by 15 points en route to a much-needed conference victory in the end. Jamal Bienemy along with Brady Manek led the team with 17 and 15 points, respectively, as the Sooners were able to end the game shooting 50% from the floor while going 6-18 from three-point range. Leading scorer for Oklahoma, Christian James, ended the game going 2-7 from the field while ending with five points  and five rebounds. On the other hand, Lindy Waters III along with Cameron McGriff combined to go 7-14 from three-point range on the night while they ended the game with 20 and 13 points for the Oklahoma State Cowboys in defeat.

In all, Oklahoma shot much better from the free throw line while slightly outrebounding the Cowboys in this contest in addition to forcing 12 turnovers on the night en route to the victory. The Sooners will now look to battle a Vanderbilt team that will certainly be sore from falling to the Tennessee Volunteers in overtime in their last outing at home. Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Oklahoma Sooners

My reason for the pick :

The Sooners are winners of four of their last five games, overall, at the Lloyd Noble Center while Vanderbilt has dropped their last  two straight road games. With that being said, look for this to be a highly competitive matchup as I certainly see both defenses taking center stage in this contest versus two inconsistent offenses. With that being said, look for this to be a low-scoring contest as well as the Sooners will hit some critical buckets down the stretch while relying on its defense in which to limit offensive opportunities for Vanderbilt throughout in what will be a slim victory in the end for the home team.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

The under has been the play in five of the last seven games for the Oklahoma Sooners while also being the result in three of the last four games, overall, for the Vanderbilt Commodores. Expect these Trends to continue in this matchup on Saturday afternoon as the defenses, as stated, will take front and center in limiting quality looks for both these offenses as the under will certainly be the strong play in the end.
