Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Washington State Cougars vs Oregon Ducks
The Oregon Ducks are set to return home to Matthew Knight Arena for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will play host to the Washington State Cougars in a Pac-12 clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 8:00 PM. Oregon has dropped 2 straight games which has them at 2-4 in the weak Pac-12 while Washington State has only won 1 of their 6 conference games this season which was to be expected out of this struggling program.
Washington State Cougars's Latest Performance :
Washington State has struggled as a program over the last few seasons and not much has changed this year as they are 1-5 in Pac-12 play even though they have one of the best players in the conference. The Cougars come into this game looking to avoid a 3 game losing streak as they most recently lost on the road against the Oregon State Beavers 90-77. Senior forward Robert Franks is having a sensational season for the Cougars as he comes into this game as the leading scorer with 21.4 PPG as well as the leading rebounder with 7.8 RPG, and he was able to hit that mark against the Beavers before fouling out as he contributed 20 points and 8 rebounds. Joining Franks in the frontcourt is freshmen forward CJ Elleby who is having just as an effective season in his first year in Pullman as Franks as he is averaging 16.1 PPG and 6.8 RPG, Elleby led the way against the Beavers with 21 points and 4 rebounds. The top guard for the Cougars has been Ahmed Ali as he averages 7.9 PPG and 2.9 APG but he was unable to find his stroke in their latest outing as he went 1 for 6 from the field with only 3 points. Washington State was able to receive some productive games from their bench pieces as sophomore Marvin Cannon contributed 10 points while junior Jervae Robinson pitched in 7 points. The Cougars were outrebounded 39-24 against the Beavers as well as committed 12 turnovers which won’t win you many games in the Pac-12.
Oregon Ducks's Latest Performance :
The Oregon Ducks are on track to miss the NCAA Tournament for a 2nd consecutive year after previously making it 5 straight times and it isn’t the fact that they lack talent as they have 6 guys on their roster who once ranked inside the top 100 as a recruit. Oregon comes into this game looking to avoid a 3 game losing streak as they most recently lost at home against the Washington Huskies 61-56. The leader this season for the Ducks has been junior guard Payton Pritchard as he comes into this matchup averaging 11.8 PPG and 4.5 APG, but he fell just shy of that mark against the Huskies with 9 points and 4 assists. Freshmen forward Louis King was able to step up and lead the way for the Ducks with 19 points which is well above his season average of 12 PPG and 5.6 RPG. A reason why the Ducks were unable to pull out a victory could be attributed to the lack of production from senior forward Paul White as he was only able to attribute 5 points after averaging 10.5 PPG throughout the season as well as the missed production of Victor Bailey as he went 0 for 5 from the field, Bailey is averaging 9 PPG this season. Bol Bol was a difference maker for the Ducks as the top recruit and future lottery pick was averaging 21 PPG and 9.6 RPG before he went out with a season-ending injury. The Ducks were unable to keep their turnovers down against the Huskies as they turned the ball over 19 times which won’t win you many games at any level of basketball.

Against The Spread Selection: Oregon Ducks
My reason for the pick :
Oregon has not been able to live up to expectations through the early portion of the season but there is still hope and there is no better way to break a losing streak than playing at home against one of the worst teams in the Pac-12. Oregon has played very good defense this season as they rank 31st in points allowed and with them being on their home court they should have no problem stopping Franks. Washington State also ranks 311th on the defensive side of the court so this might be what the Ducks needed to break open the floodgates. Oregon also comes into this game with an 8-4 home record while the Cougars have gone 0-6 on the road.
