Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Baylor Bears vs Oklahoma Sooners
The Oklahoma Sooners are set to return home to the Lloyd Noble Center for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will play host to the Baylor Bears in a Big 12 clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 9:00 PM. Oklahoma is currently sitting middle of the pack in the Big 12 with a 3-4 conference record while Baylor has impressed as of recent as they are in striking distance of 1st place with a 4-2 Big 12 record.
Baylor Bears's Latest Performance :
The Baylor Bears have exceeded expectations this season after missing out on the postseason last year as they are currently 4-2 in Big 12 play which has them only .5 games out of 1st place. Baylor comes into this game looking to extend their win streak to 5 games after they were able to win their latest game in the SEC-Big 12 challenge against the Alabama Crimson Tide 73-68. Most impressively the Baylor Bears have been playing without their top player in Tristan Clark who is out with a season-ending injury, Clark averages 14.6 PPG and 6.3 RPG. Leading the way for the Bears against Alabama was sophomore guard Mario Kegler as he contributed 17 points and 7 rebounds, Kegler only averages on 8.6 PPG and 6.1 RPG. The leading scorer on the season for Baylor has been the Yale transfer Makai Mason as he is averaging 15.7 PPG and 2.9 RPG, Mason was 1 of 2 Bears to contribute double-digit points against Alabama as he had 13 points and 4 assists. The bench was a huge reason behind the team’s success in this game as they received a total of 21 bench points but freshmen guard Matthew Mayer had the biggest game out of the reserves as he contributed 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Baylor has been one of the top defensive teams in the nation as they rank 26th in team defense and we saw that on display against Alabama as they held them to 29% from 3 as well as forced 13 turnovers.
Oklahoma Sooners's Latest Performance :
The Oklahoma Sooners are not one of the top teams in the Big 12 which might be the obvious considering they are 3-4 in Big 12 play but they are playing much better than we expected considering they lost their top player from last season to the NBA draft. Oklahoma has put together a little win streak as they come into this game with 2 consecutive victories but their latest win was impressive as they blew out the Vanderbilt Commodores at home 86-55. Oklahoma received a fairly big game from their leading scorer in Christian James as the senior was able to contribute 21 points and 5 rebounds, James comes into this game averaging 16.5 PPG and 7.5 RPG. Sophomore forward Brady Manek has played well as of recent and his outing against Vanderbilt was another example of that as he contributed 16 points and 4 rebounds, Manek is the 2nd leading scorer for the Sooners as he averages 11.3 PPG and 6.9 RPG. Freshmen guard Jamal Bieniemy has come on strong for the Sooners since being inserted into the starting lineup on 1/19 as he recorded 17 points against Oklahoma State but he failed to contribute a point against the Commodores but to his credit he made his impact felt elsewhere as he had 7 assists and 5 rebounds. Oklahoma was the 5th ranked scoring team in the nation last season but their success this year could be accredited to their defense and we saw that in their latest outing as they turned Vanderbilt over 22 times as well as held them to 24% from 3-point range.

Against The Spread Selection: Baylor Bears
My reason for the pick :
The Baylor Bears have been impressive through the early portion of the season as they are playing top-notch defense and receiving production from different sources on a nightly basis and I like them to continue their win streak on the road in this one. Oklahoma has not been great on offense this season and that plays right into one of the best defenses in the nation as they rattle opposing offenses in their zone. Baylor will need to continue rebounding the ball at a high rate as Oklahoma likes to crash the boards with their guards. Makai Mason is one of the most underrated guards in the conference and I think he has a good scoring game in this one. While Oklahoma has been very good ATS this season, Baylor has been great ATS on the road as they are 4-1. Take the Bears on the road.
