Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Kentucky Wildcats vs Vanderbilt Commodores

The 9th ranked team in the nation in the Kentucky Wildcats will visit Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tennessee, to face the Vanderbilt Commodores on Tuesday night at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Vanderbilt has lost seven straight games and were not able to atone for a very exciting overtime lost to the top-ranked team in the nation in the Tennessee Volunteers in their prior outing as they fell hard on the road versus their Big 12 opponent last weekend in the Oklahoma Sooners. The Commodores scored 55 points for the second time in their last three outings has they posted just 23 points in the first half en route to finishing the game at 36% as a team. On the other hand, the Sooners were able to jump out on top early and often as they shot a tad over 55% from the floor while also getting 21 points from leading scorer on the season in Christian James in the victory.

On the other hand, the Kentucky Wildcats were able to pick up a huge victory over the Kansas Jayhawks in their last time out as Kentucky was able to shake off the remnants of a halftime deficit of three points in which to outscore the Jayhawks 41-30 in the second half while also obtaining huge games from PJ Washington along with Reid Travis , who ended with 20 and 18 points, respectively, as they each pull down a combined 15 rebounds on the night in the win.

Kentucky Wildcats's Latest Performance :

Kentucky is hot on the heels of the LSU Tigers at this point in the season as they are looking to overtake the second-place slot with in the SEC to nestle in behind the Tennessee Volunteers. Of course, the Wildcats must continue to win games in which to accomplish this task as they certainly rolled versus the Kansas Jayhawks at home last weekend as Washington along with Travis paced the Wildcats offensive attack with 20 points along with 18 and 12 points.  Keldon Johnson also recorded a double-double in posting 15 points while grabbing 10 rebounds as he went 3-4 from long range in the victory.

And while both teams shot under 40% from the floor on the night along with Kansas outshootting Kentucky from three-point range by connecting on 9 compared to just four for the Wildcats, Kentucky certainly was able to capitalize at the free-throw line on the night as they made good on 18 of 28 attempts for the contest compared to just 11, total for Kansas. Also, Kentucky was able to heavily outrebound Kansas in this contest by a 47-33 margin as well, which also serves as a key stat in them ultimately sealing the victory.

Again, Kentucky’s offense has slowed down a bit in recent outings in averaging just 64 points per game, a huge drop off from their 79 point average for the season. Nonetheless, each of those outings resulted in wins for the Wildcats while their defense has only allowed opponents to average 52 points during this time. In all, Kentucky will certainly be looking to lead with their defense in this contest as they will be facing a dismal offense for the Commodores that have had trouble getting things going recently on this end. Combine this with the fact that the Commodores have been horrible on their home court recently, as pointed out, and Kentucky will certainly should possess a huge amount of confidence entering this contest on Tuesday night.

Vanderbilt Commodores 's Latest Performance :

The Vanderbilt Commodores have not only lost their last four home games, but, also dropped their third straight road game as well in their last matchup versus the Oklahoma Sooners as their offense was dismal throughout the contest in shooting well under 40% from the floor on the night, as stated. Also, the Commodores were horrible from three-point range as well as Saben Lee  was the lone bright spot for the Commodores in scoring 24 points while pulling down eight rebounds as he went 2-2 from three-point range on the night. On the other hand, the rest of the starters for Vanderbilt went 2-10 from three-point range in defeat.

And while the Sooners only connected on seven 3-pointers on the night, they were red-hot from the perimeter throughout the contest as they went up by 18 points at halftime while heavily outscoring Vanderbilt throughout the second half en route to the victory.  For this matchup versus the Kentucky Wildcats, Vanderbilt’s defense, which continues to allow opponents to shoot just 42% from the floor on a nightly basis, must be able to establish themselves early and often. However,  it will be important to note that the defense for the Commodores have allowed opponents to score an average of 79 points in their last four outings, overall.

How Kentucky Wildcats & Vanderbilt Commodores Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Kentucky is 10 – 9 ATS while the OU is  8 – 11
Vanderbilt is 7-12 ATS while the OU is  7 – 10

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for this to be a huge test for the Kentucky Wildcats as they will be looking to stay on the heels of the LSU Tigers, as stated, for second place within the Southeastern Conference. To do this, they must be able to lead with their defense, which has been very solid in their last few outings, in which to further make things difficult for the Vanderbilt offense to obtain quality looks at the basket throughout 40 minutes. On the other hand, look for Vandy to push the peace consistently in this contest as they will certainly want to catch the defense for Kentucky on his heels, more often than not.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Kentucky Wildcats

My reason for the pick :

Look for a Kentucky to pick up the victory in this Southeastern Conference matchup on Tuesday night as they are simply the better team that happens to be playing much better at a critical point in the season. Vanderbilt, on the other hand, has lost 7th straight games due to their inability to remain consistent on the offensive end of the floor. And while I happen to believe that their defense will certainly bring their A game in which to make it difficult for a Kentucky offense that has sputtered a bit recently, look for the visitors to pull ahead at some point while totally neutralizing an offense for Vanderbilt which seemingly has no reliable scorer, other than that of Lee,  that can put the ball in the basket on a consistent basis.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

The under has been the play in three of the last five games for the Kentucky Wildcats while also in three of the last four home games for the Commodores, as well. With the way both teams have played defense  recently, one can certainly expect two struggling offenses for Vanderbilt and Kentucky to have their fair share of difficulties early on and throughout the contest in putting the ball in the hoop. With that being said, look for the under to be the strong play in this contest.

Betting trends for Kentucky Wildcats:

  • The Wildcats are 4-1  against the spread in last 5 games
The under is 4-1 in Wildcats last 5 games

Betting trends for Vanderbilt Commodores :

  • The Commodores are 1-3 against the spread in last 4 games
The under is 5-2 in Commodores last 7 games
