Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Alabama Crimson Tide
The 22nd ranked team in the country in the Mississippi State Bulldogs will travel to meet the Alabama Crimson Tide on Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time at Coleman Arena in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Alabama has lost four of their last six games, overall, while also picking up a loss vs their Big 12 opponent in last weekend’s contest as the Baylor Bears were able to pick up a 5 point victory behind their ability to make critical buckets throughout the duration of the contest while also being able to capitalize off 12 turnovers on the night for the Crimson Tide. Mario Kegler along with Makai Mason led the team with 17 and 13 points while the Crimson Tide were led by by Riley Norris who came off the bench in which to go 4-4 from long-range while leading the team with 16 points on a night where Alabama shot over 50% from the floor, yet, only made good on 5 of 18 3-point attempts on the night.
Mississippi State was able to atone for a loss to the Kentucky Wildcats in their prior outing as they were able to pick up a victory over the Auburn Tigers at home as they began to pull away late in the game due to their ability to remain efficient from the perimeter while also receiving 27 points from Quinndary Weatherspoon, who went 5-7 from three-point range while also committing a whopping five turnovers on the night in the win for the Bulldogs.
Mississippi State Bulldogs's Latest Performance :
In a high-scoring matchup throughout, Mississippi State was able to get back on the winning track after a loss to the Kentucky Wildcats in their prior outing in which to pick up a win over over the suddenly struggling Auburn Tigers at home as Mississippi State connected on 13 3-point shots on the night while also shooting 50% from the floor as a team in the victory.
Defensively, they were certainly generous to the Auburn Tigers has the road team shot 50% both from the field as well as from three-point range in this contest as Bryce Brown along with Chuma Okeke led the team with 18 and 16 points for an Auburn team that, despite their success access from the floor, committed 19 turnovers on the night, which certainly did not bode well for them picking up the win. On the other hand, Mississippi State was led by Weatherspoon with 27 points while Lamar Peters also chipped in 16 points in the win for the Bulldogs. Nick Weatherspoon went 5-10 from the floor while finishing with 12 points as well for Mississippi State.
And despite their recent struggles on the offensive end, Mississippi State continues to average 78 points per game on a tad under 48% shooting from the field. Fortunately, they have gained a bit of confidence moving forward as they are not only winners of three of their last four outings, altogether, but are coming off of a ninety-two point outing versus a solid Auburn Tigers team, which could certainly provide a huge boost of momentum leading into their matchup versus the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Furthermore, Mississippi State was able to pick up a three-point win over the Alabama Crimson Tide in their last matchup in February of 2018 as well, as the Crimson Tide will most likely be looking for a bit of revenge in this contest.
Alabama Crimson Tide's Latest Performance :
The Alabama Crimson Tide continue to lose their way at this point in the season as their losers of four of their last six games, overall, as they suffered a road loss to the Baylor Bears in their last time out as Baylor survived 50% shooting for the Crimson Tide in this contest as they were able to shoot 45% while connecting on 6 3-point attempts compared to just five for the Crimson Tide. Baylor also slightly outrebounded Alabama in this contest while capitalizing off 12 turnovers for the road team throughout the contest, as stated.
Kegler along with Mason led the team with 17 and 13 points while Norris paced the Alabama offense on the night as he posted 16 points, as stated, while Kiros Lewis Jr along with Tevin Mack chipped in 15 points each for the Crimson Tide in the losing effort. In all, the Crimson Tide have not been able to string together victories at all recently as they have essentially exchanged wins for losses in their past six games. During this time, the offense has struggled while the defense, despite having a bad game here and there, remains to be the most solid part of their team, at this point.
Nonetheless, Alabama will look to return to its offensive ways in this matchup versus a Mississippi State team that is only allowing opponents to shoot 43% on a nightly basis. Also, the Bulldogs have dropped two of their last three road games, overall, while the Crimson Tide have won three of their last four games at home entering this matchup and will certainly look to get back on the right track as soon as possible with a victory as they are not only average as far as their conference record is concerned at 3-4, but, has also fell to middle of the conference as well due to their inability to be more consistent on the offensive end.
How Mississippi State Bulldogs & Alabama Crimson Tide Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Mississippi state is 9 – 10 ATS while the OU is 10 – 9
Alabama is 8 – 10 – 1 ATS while the OU is 12 – 6
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Look for this to be a very interesting matchup amongst these two SEC teams as each will be looking to either continue their recent success, or, to right their ship in which to build momentum on a game-by-game basis moving forward. Of course, Alabama has struggled lately, as pointed out in this article, yet have played much more competitively at home vs opponents. On the other hand, Mississippi State has seemingly found some confidence and momentum at this critical point in the season and will certainly look to extend this on the road, where they have not played well lately. Nonetheless, one can certainly expect a highly competitive matchup amongst these two teams that will be fighting hard in which to pick up a hard-fought victory.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Mississippi State Bulldogs
My reason for the pick :
While I happen to believe that Alabama will come out to play, particularly on the defensive end, I simply have little to no faith that their offense will remain consistent throughout the duration of this game. Mississippi State, despite much of the hoopla concerning its offense, is a very solid defensive team in allowing just 43% shooting on a nightly basis to opponents. With that being said, look for them to neutralizing an already inconsistent offense for Alabama while pulling away from the home team at some point in this contest en route to picking up the victory.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
When looking at the defenses that will be taking the floor in this contest on Tuesday night, I will certainly back the under in this instance. Also, combine this with the fact that the under has been the play in four of the last five games for the Alabama Crimson Tide, overall, while also being the result in the last three games for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, look for these trends to continue in what will be highly competitive and low-scoring contest amongst these two SEC foes who will be fighting to obtain a much-needed victory.
