Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Northwestern Wildcats vs Maryland Terrapins
The Maryland Terrapins are set to return home to the XFINITY Center after playing 3 straight games away from home and they will play host to the Northwestern Wildcats in a Big Ten clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 7:00 PM. Maryland started conference play 7-1 which put them in the AP Poll but they have since struggled as they are on a 2 game losing streak while Northwestern has been a disappointment through the early portion of Big Ten play as they are 3-6.
Northwestern Wildcats's Latest Performance :
Northwestern is having a down year to their standards as they are 3-6 in Big Ten play which has them pinned in the conference, and they were unable to build on a recent win streak they had as they lost on the road against the Wisconson Badgers on 1/26 62-46. Northwestern struggled to find much success in this game on the offensive side of the spectrum as they shot 30% from the field as well as had 13 turnovers, they also did not have a single scorer reach double digits in the points department. Senior forward Vic Law has been the top Wildcat all season as he comes into this game averaging 15.8 PPG and 6.8 RPG but he struggled against Wisconsin as he went 2 for 11 from the field which contributed to 6 points, Law was able to record 11 rebounds. Joining Law in the backcourt is Derek Pardon who is the leading rebounder with 7.8 RPG while also contributing 13.9 PPG, and while he was able to contribute 11 rebounds he only compiled 8 points. Sophomore guard Anthony Gaines runs the offense but he like everyone else struggled to find his stroke as he went 3 for 11 from the field with 8 points. Junior forward Aaron Falzon has come on strong for the Wildcats as of recent and he was once again able to have a solid game from behind the arc as he went 2 for 3 with 6 points off the bench. Northwestern was able to win the rebounding battle over the Badgers 37-35 which attributes to their strong frontcourt.
Maryland Terrapins 's Latest Performance :
The Maryland Terrapins are enjoying one of their best years under Mark Turgeon as they find themselves in the top half of the deep Big Ten as well as in the AP top 25 but this young team has endured some growing pains in Big Ten play as they come into this game on a 2 game losing streak. Maryland was unable to put away the Illinois Fighting Illini in a neutral site game as they lost 78-67 after being outscored 48-33 in the 2nd half. Sophomore forward Bruno Fernando was once again able to assert his dominance down low as he contributed a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Fernando is having a good season for the Terrapins as he comes into this game averaging 14.6 PPG and 10.3 RPG. The leading scorer on the season for Maryland has been junior guard Anthony Cowan Jr. as he is averaging 17.4 PPG and 4.6 APG, and he was able to eclipse that mark against Illinois with 18 points and 5 assists. Freshmen guard Eric Ayala has enjoyed a solid 1st season in College Park as he is averaging 8.6 PPG but he was kept fairly silent in their latest outing as he contributed 0 points and 5 turnovers. Freshmen guard Aaron Wiggins is one of the top guys off the bench for the Terrapins as he is averaging 9 PPG and 3.3 RPG, and he was able to contribute nicely against Illinois with 8 points and 2 rebounds. Maryland will look to clean up their turnover problems as they turned the ball over 21 times against Illinois while only forcing 9 on the other end of the court.

Against The Spread Selection: Maryland Terrapins
My reason for the pick :
The Maryland Terrapins will come into this game looking to rebound off a recent losing streak and there is no better way to break a losing streak than returning home for a game. Northwestern does have the forwards to match up with Fernando and Smith but Maryland has a significantly better backcourt with Anthony Cowan and Eric Ayala. Wisconsin was able to expose the Northwestern top-ranked defense with the 3-pointer and I would look for Cowan and Wiggins off the bench to do the same. Maryland has played solid defense at home this season where they are 11-2 SU while Northwestern hasn’t been great on the road as they are 1-4. Take Maryland at home.
