Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

TCU Horned Frogs vs Texas Tech Red Raiders

The Texas Tech Red Raiders are set to return home to the United Supermarkets Arena for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will play host to the TCU Horned Frogs in a Big 12 clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 9:00 PM. Texas Tech is currently 4-3 in conference play but still rank inside the top 25 in the AP Poll while TCU is 3-3 in Big 12 play but they have picked up some momentum as of recent with a 2 game win streak.

TCU Horned Frogs's Latest Performance :

The TCU Horned Frogs have dealt with injuries and dismal’s from the program this season which has led to a sluggish start in Big 12 play (3-3) but this is not a team that can be taken lightly as they play great offense and match that intensity on the defensive side of the court. The Horned Frogs come into this matchup looking to build on a 2 game win streak as they were able to win their game in the SEC-Big 12 Challenge against the Florida Gators 55-50. Sophomore forward Kouat Noi has been one of the top players for Jamie Dixon all season as he averages 14.2 PPG and 4.3 RPG, and he was able to deliver with a big game against the Gators as he scored 22 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the win. Junior guard Desmond Bane matches Noi in the production column as the Indiana native averages 14.9 PPG and 5.7 RPG, and he was able to eclipse that mark in their latest game with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Senior guard Alex Robinson is a do-it-all type of guy for the Horned Frogs as he averages 13.3 PPG and 7.9 APG, and he was able to make a big impact in the Florida game as he recorded 7 points and 5 assists but also had 3 steals. The bench has been a common issue for TCU and their latest game was no different as they only recorded 5 total points with no reserve playing more than 16 minutes. The Horned Frogs stepped it up on the defensive end in this game as they were able to hold the Gators to 30% shooting from the field as well as outrebound them 45-33.

Texas Tech Red Raiders's Latest Performance :

Texas Tech once looked like one of the best teams in the nation earlier in the season but Chris Beard and company have been playing awful as of recent as they enter this matchup 5th in the Big 12 with a 4-3 record in conference play. Texas Tech was able to hold off the Arkansas Razorbacks in the SEC-Big 12 Challenge on Saturday as they won 67-64. The leader of the Red Raiders offense this season has been sophomore guard Jarrett Culver as he comes into this game averaging 18.7 PPG, 7.1 RPG, and 3.8 APG, and he was able to have a solid game against the Razorbacks with 15 points and 4 assists as he went 4 for 5 from behind the arc. Sophomore guard Davide Moretti had the biggest offensive game for Texas Tech as he was able to record a team-high 21 points which is well above his season average of 9.8 PPG. Senior forward Tariq Owens is only averaging 8.3 PPG and 5.2 RPG but his length is key in the Texas Tech defense, Owens struggled on Saturday as the St. John’s transfer scored 2 points and fouled out in 21 minutes. Chris Beard was happy that his other transfer in Matt Mooney was able to found the bottom of the net as the South Dakota transfer recorded 12 points which is right around his season average of 10.2 PPG. Bench points have been scarce for the Red Raiders this season but freshmen guard Kyler Edwards was able to give this team a small spark off the bench as he produced 7 points in 16 minutes.

Against The Spread Selection: Texas Tech Red Raiders

My reason for the pick :

Both teams have the talent to win the Big 12 but they have struggled through the early portion of conference play but with Texas Tech playing at home against a team that is short on the depth I have to back them. TCU is solid on offense this season but the advantage on defense sways to the Red Raiders as they enter this game as the 2nd ranked scoring defense as their zone will get to you. Texas Tech will need to establish Culver early and often if they want to have a big scoring game as well as find a second scorer. TCU plays only 7 to 8 guys a game which means Tech needs to get the ball into the paint and force the Horned Frogs into foul trouble. Texas Tech is the better team and is 11-1 SU at home while TCU is 1-3 SU on the road.

  • TCU is 1-2 ATS as a road underdog this season.

Betting trends for Texas Tech Red Raiders:

  • Texas Tech is 37-32-1 ATS after a win since 2015.
