Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Tennessee Volunteers vs South Carolina Gamecocks

The top-ranked team in the nation in the Tennessee Volunteers will travel to Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina, to face the South Carolina Gamecocks on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Gamecocks continue to play well recently as they have not only done well within the Southeastern Conference, but were also looking to pick up a huge victory versus the Oklahoma State Cowboys last weekend in an SEC/ Big 12 showdown. Nonetheless, Gamecock shot horrible from the floor at 38% for the night and despite only allowing 40% shooting to the Cowboys, the home team was able to get to the free-throw line a total of 29 times compared to just five for the Gamecocks, as this was a key stat in allowing Oklahoma State to pick up the victory, particularly after connecting on 23 of those attempts on the night.

On the other hand, the Tennessee Volunteers continue to look outstanding on both sides of the ball as they posted 88 points on the West Virginia Mountaineers in their last outing as Lamont Turner led the team with 23 points on the night while Grant Williams followed up his 43 point night versus the Vanderbilt Commodores while pumping in 19 points while going 9-12 from the free throw line in the victory.

Tennessee Volunteers's Latest Performance :

After giving up 83 points to the Vanderbilt Commodores in an overtime classic to where the Vols were able to obtain a five-point victory on the road, Tennessee certainly regrouped on the defensive end versus the West Virginia Mountaineers as their offense was on fire throughout the night, yet, West Virginia shot just 43% from the floor as Isa Ahmad along with Derek Culver led the team with 16 and 15 points, respectively, for a West Virginia team that fell to the cellar of the Big 12 Conference.

Lamonte Turner finished the game with 23 points for the Volunteers, as stated, while Grant Williams, coming off of a 43 point effort vs Vanderbilt Commodores, ended the game with 19 points on the night as he also went 9-12 from the free-throw line in the victory. It will be important to note that aside from their five point overtime win vs Vanderbilt on the road, the Vols have picked up 21 along with 24-point victories over the Florida Gators along with the Missouri Tigers in recent road outings. In other words, the Volunteers have been just as dominant on the road as they have been at home in 2018-19 and will certainly look to continue their play in this matchup versus the South Carolina Gamecocks on Tuesday night.

South Carolina Gamecocks 's Latest Performance :

Chris Silva put in 15 points for the Gamecocks in their last game versus the Oklahoma State Cowboys while AJ Lawson also chipped in 13 points in the loss as well; However, this was not enough as poor shooting for the Gamecocks, yet again, along with an inability to get to the free-throw line ultimately caused their undoing in this contest versus Oklahoma State.  Thomas Dziagwa along with Lindy Waters III led Oklahoma City with 19 and 17 points, respectively, for a team that only shot 40% from the floor, yet, were able to obtain 32 free throw attempts on the night compared to just nine for South Carolina.

Of course, the Gamecock certainly let one get away in this contest, however, continue to remain in fourth place within the Southeastern Conference as they have only lost one game within the SEC all season. Nonetheless, they will be matching up against the number one team in the nation in the Tennessee Volunteers, who have racked up a ton of momentum lately.  Fortunately for the Gamecocks, they enter this contest undefeated in their last 4 games at Colonial Life Marina with recent wins over Auburn’s, Missouri, along with Mississippi State. In other words, South Carolina will certainly be up to the challenge and will lead with their stellar defense versus a Tennessee team that continues to shine on the offensive end as they have passed the 80-point mark in seven of their last 10 games, overall.

How Tennessee Volunteers & South Carolina Gamecocks Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Tennessee is 10 – 7 – 1 ATS while the OU is 10 – 8
South Carolina is  7 – 11 ATS while the OU is  13 – 4

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Volunteers have a talented group of players that can certainly put the ball in the hoop as point guard Jordan Bone along with Admiral Schofield have also logged huge minutes and scores for the Volunteers this while continuing to come up big during critical moments within games. On the other hand, South Carolina continues to be a very dangerous team in their own right, however, have struggled with consistency on the offensive end throughout the season and may do so in this matchup versus a Tennessee Volunteers team that is really locked down their opponents throughout the season.Nonetheless, one should certainly look for a much better outing from AJ Lawson, leading scorer for the Gamecocks on the season, as he will certainly need to have an effective night on both ends of the floor if the Gamecocks are to pull out a much-needed victory.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Tennessee Volunteers

My reason for the pick :

I will back Tennessee in this contest as I happen to believe that they are simply the best team at this point in the season. Also, with Carolina playing such great defense lately, one should look for the Tennessee Volunteers to push the pace early and often to put some points on the board. The Gamecocks will keep this close for quite a bit however, the many playmakers for the Tennessee Volunteers will begin to take control of this matchup while the defense for the Volunteers will begin to lock down an inconsistent offense for South Carolina at some point during the game in which to pull out the much-needed conference victory in the end.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

Look for this to be a competitive and high scoring matchup throughout as the over has been the play in the majority of home games for the Gamecocks in their recent outing while Tennessee has posted the over in their last three road games, overall. One should certainly expect these trends to continue despite both teams having solid defenses as each can certainly get up and down the floor and are very effective at getting to the free-throw line as well. In all, expect the over to be the play in this contest as a score board will light up early and often.

Betting trends for Tennessee Volunteers:

  • Volunteers are 6-2 against the spread in last 8 games
The over is 4-2 in volunteers last six games

Betting trends for South Carolina Gamecocks :

  • The Gamecocks are 5-2 against the spread in last 7 games
The over in 7-1 and Gamecocks last eight games
