Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Over/Under 6 wins vs Arkansas Razorbacks
The Arkansas Razorbacks are hoping they can hit the reset button on their storied legacy as they fired Bret Bielema after his 5th season and were able to lure away Chad Morris from SMU on a 6-year deal. Morris may be overlooked due to the other big SEC West hires (Jimbo Fisher and Joe Moorhead) but Morris brings a solid approach to the table as he was one of the best high school football coaches in the state of Texas for 15 years which should give him a foot up in recruiting. Morris may be in his first year at the helm but he already made a splash when he signed 4-star QB Connor Noland who elected to stay home in the state of Arkansas rather than going to Penn State, Texas A&M, or Ole Miss. One thing Arkansas will need to revamp under Morris is the defensive side of the ball as they ranked towards the bottom of the conference, but the offense will most definitely see a boost under Morris as he led SMU to a top 15 YPG team in his Air Raid offense.
Over/Under 6 wins's Latest Performance :
The over/under for the 2018 season is set at 6 wins which wouldn’t only put them at the .500 mark but in a bowl game.
Arkansas was given no breaks in Chad Morris first year as they have a really tough stretch of games towards the beginning of the season. A vital part of their season will be the stretch of games from 9/22 to 10/6 as the schedule is as follows: @ Auburn, Texas A&M (Neutral), Alabama. Auburn and Alabama will be really tough games as they will be fighting for a playoff spot all season long and Texas A&M won’t be easy either as they will travel to the state of Texas for a “Neutral” site game (AT&T Stadium) which is only 177 miles away from College Station.
Arkansas Razorbacks's Latest Performance :
The SEC West is the toughest division in College Football and there is no argument there, but going 1-7 in the SEC is no excuse for a team who has won 13 conference titles. The one area that Arkansas will need to figure out is the QB position as they graduated Austin Allen who threw for 1427 yards and 10 touchdowns in only 8 games of play. Cole Kelley looks like the front-runner for the job as the sophomore filled in nicely for Allen in his absence as the 6’7 QB threw for 1038 yards and 8 TDs. The one strength for Arkansas lies in the running back position as they bring back 2 of their top 3 rushers who combined for over 926 yards and 11 TDs.
Player To Watch
De’ Jon Harris, LB, Jr.
You should expect a big year out of the former 3-star recruit as he is not only coming off a career year where he led the Razorbacks in tackles with 115, but Arkansas has changed their scheme back to a 4-3. Changing the scheme for a 4-3 should allow Harris to multiply his tackled by 2 as he will not have to deal with too many linemen which allows him to play freely and ball hawk. Harris was often spotted in the Mike spot during spring ball as he is comfortable enough to not only play defense but run it. Harris should have a big year in the new scheme and start to open up NFL doorways as the LB doesn’t only have the stats but okay size (6’1, 239).

My reason for the pick :
Arkansas should and will be much improved under 1st-year coach Chad Morris but as we said they were given no breaks on their schedule as it is possible to lose 4 straight games against fellow SEC West opponents. Ole Miss could be a toss-up game as Arkansas is at home but I don’t like the fact that they will be coming off 3 really tough games. Even if Arkansas can sneak a win out at home against Ole Miss they will need to find a way to win against either Missouri or Mississipi State on the road which will be a tough task. Arkansas will be hit or miss at the QB position as they need to find a replacement for the long line of Allen brothers which we know is the root of most teams problems. Arkansas will fall short of a bowl game for the 2nd straight year but will be able to find a positive out of them being 1 win better than 2017.
