Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Over/Under 9 wins vs Auburn Tigers
Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers will enter the 2018 season hungry after being so close to the College Football Playoffs for the first time in school history, not only were they embarrassed in the SEC championship but they were upset in the Peach Bowl by the UCF Knights, 34-27. Auburn should be set to roll this season as they return their start QB Jarrett Stidham who had a really good season in 2017 but may be more commonly known for his performance against Alabama as he went 21-28 with 237 yards. Not only is Auburn returning a boatload of players but they had the 3rd best-recruiting class in the SEC as they brought in 16 4-star recruits. Auburn will try to get back to the SEC title game behind their veteran QB as well as their stingy defense.
Over/Under 9 wins's Latest Performance :
The over/under is set at 9 wins for Auburn which is one win below their 2017 season where they finished at 10-2.
Auburn is always a contender for the SEC West but they always run into a problem and it won’t be resolved anytime soon as cross-state rival Alabama is a continuous powerhouse. Auburn has a tough stretch of games at the end of the season as they will have a rematch of the SEC title game on 11/10 when they travel to Georgia as well as a road game against the defending national champions on 11/24. These two games alone are big time in making sure they not only return to Atlanta for the conference championship but in also making sure they stay above the 9 win mark which will cash in for most bettors. Other than having the two toughest road games in College Football the Tigers were given a favor in terms of their opening Neutral Site game as they will play in Mercadez Benz Stadium (Atlanta) where they played twice last year with a ton of support from their fan base. The one toss-up game may lie in the middle of the season where they will have to travel to both Mississippi schools which are always hostile environments.
Auburn Tigers's Latest Performance :
Auburn is arguably the scariest team in football as they return a veteran QB who is hungry for more as well as a defensive front that returns 3 of their top players who can all be first-round picks come 2019. Jarrett Stidham was one of the best QBs in the SEC last season as he led the conference in completions (246) and in completion percentage (66.5%) and he should be set to take on a bigger role considering the loss of his star running back Kerryon Johnson (draft). Kam Martin will step into the Johnsons lead back role where he will try to replace a 1391 yard rusher. Martin was solid in his appearances last season as he averaged over 6.1 YPC, and we may even see an appearance out of freshmen Joey Gatewood who came to Auburn as an athlete after playing QB most of his high school career. Not only does Auburn return most of their defensive line but they return their top tackler in Deshaun Davis who is set to breakout for another good year in his last hoorah.
Player To Watch
Anders Carlson, K, RS FR.
Normally I wouldn’t care to cover the specialist even though they are a vital position in terms of a teams success, but this is the one position where Auburn will be biting their fingers come Septemeber. Auburn will try to break in Anders Carlson after a year of learning behind his brother (Daniel Carlson) who by the way is Auburn’s all-time leading scorer. Carlson was a vital part in the success of the Tigers during the 2017 season as he went 23 for 31 on FGs and a perfect 57 for 57 on XPs. Anders should be in a good position considering the coaching he has received from his older brother Daniel but it isn’t like Anders too bad either as he was the top-ranked kicker in his class. Carlson is hoping to continue the legacy of his last name in Auburn’s record books but it won’t come easy considering Daniel was a 5-year starter.

My reason for the pick :
Auburn is set to take the next step forward in terms of College Football powerhouses as they haven’t won a national title since 2010 when it was the BCS era. Auburn has to close out the season with arguably the toughest road games as they will travel to the defending SEC champions in the Georgia Bulldogs as well as the defending national champs in the Alabama Crimson Tide. These two games may hinder the chances of Auburn making the SEC championship but even considering that Auburn should still be way above the 9 win total as they should end the season at 10. Another future bet I would consider making is Jarrett Stidham winning the Heisman trophy which currently resides at +1600. Stidham was one of the best QBs in 2017 even though he shared the ball with Kerryon Johnson but considering that era is over we should see Stidham throw the ball more.
