Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Over/Under 7.5 wins vs Florida Gators
The Florida Gators were once upon a time one of the best College Football teams of all-time but as of recent we have seen this storied university on the decline under Jim McElwain. That era is now over though and the Gators brought back Dan Mullen who should not only get this team back on track after a 4-7 season but develop a solid QB something that has been the root of the problems. Florida returns most of their starters from 2017 and not only did they receive some key transfers but they had a really good recruiting class as they ranked 14th in the nation. Mullen was able to win over Emory Jones who was once an Ohio State commit but with him coming to Gainsville under Dan Mullen we may see a similar Tim Tebow approach. This was the first time that Florida missed a bowl game since 2013 where they went 4-8.
Over/Under 7.5 wins's Latest Performance :
The over/under is set for 7.5 wins which is a huge improvement considering the Gators only went 4-7 in 2017. If the Gators can get above the 7.5 win mark they will have a good chance in receiving a solid bowl game.
The Florida Gators were given a gift from the College Football gods as they have a fairly easy and winnable schedule. The Gators SEC road games are at Tennessee, Mississipi State, and Vanderbilt which are all winnable games. LSU and South Carolina have to travel into town for matchups and we know how tough Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is to play in. The two games that could cause trouble for the Gators is their annual neutral site game against Georgia and their road game against rival Florida State. Georgia should be the easy selection for winning the SEC East division and this game is as close as it gets to an SEC East championship so if Florida wants a chance at a title this is a must-win game. Florida State has ruled the state of Florida for the past 7 years as they have beat the brakes off Florida year after year and it won’t get much easier this season as they have to travel into a hostile environment to close out the season.
Florida Gators's Latest Performance :
Dan Mullen has developed some great QBs in his career as he not only polished Tim Tebow into a Heisman trophy winner but may have yet another first-round pick in Nick Fitzgerald who he left back at Mississipi State. Mullen will bring his high-scoring offense back to Florida which once won two national titles for the team in the swamp. The Gators have struggled to find a consistent QB as they have brought in grad transfers who haven’t worked out too well (Malik Zaire, Luke Del Rio, and Austin Appleby). Last year the Gators were led by Feleipe Franks who was one of the most sought-after recruits back in 2016 but the 6’5 redshirt sophomore struggled as he threw for only 1438 yards while throwing 8 interceptions. The success for the Gators resides on the defensive side of the ball as they have continually led the bad offense through thick and thin. They return one of the best DB duos in the nation as they have both Marco Wilson and CJ Henderson controlling the corners with Chauncey Gardner at safety.
Player To Watch
Van Jefferson, WR, RS JR. and Trevon Grimes, WR, SO.
The reason I chose to cover 2 guys in my player to watch section is because both of these guys are transfers who are still waiting on their eligibility ruling from the NCAA. Jefferson is transferring in from Ole Miss where he had a pretty solid year from the slot as he had 42 catches for 456 yards. Grimes only recorded 3 catches for 20 yards in his freshmen season at Ohio State but that is beside the point as Grimes was a former 4-star recruit. If Florida can get these two guys eligible for the 2018 season we will see a deadly receiving core as these two transfers will combine with Tyrie Cleveland and Josh Hammond who combined for over 656 yards last season.

My reason for the pick :
The Florida Gators made all the right moves in terms of giving Dan Mullen a blank check which essentially landed him back in Gainsville. The Gators wasted time with Jim McElwain as they allowed Georgia to take over the SEC East as well as allow South Carolina to close the gap. Mullen should be able to revamp this awful offense and make Franks into a solid QB which in return should allow this team to pick up 8 wins and a bowl appearance. The over 7.5 wins was a no-brainer for me as I think they could potentially reach 9 wins if they are ready for LSU at home. The defense for Florida has allowed this team to win 8 or 9 games over the past few years and with a whole new offensive staff, there is no reason that mark can’t be reached again.
