Over/Under 7 Wins vs Texas A&M Aggies
The buzz around College Station is as strong as ever after the firing of Kevin Sumlin and the hire of former national champion Jimbo Fisher. The Aggies were able to lure away Fisher from Florida State as the facilities and the direction of the program was enough. Fisher left the ACC for the best division in football as he will have to go against the likes of Auburn, Alabama, and LSU year in and year out which will be a tough task. Fisher will have to figure out things on the offensive side of the ball especially after losing some vital pieces from last years 7-5 team. Fisher is hoping his offense is somewhere along the lines of 2017 where they put up 50+ points on 3 different occasions. Fisher may be a year away from making his big-time splashes on the recruiting trail (#1 in 2019) but he still had a pretty good offseason as he ranked 17th in the nation. Jimbo Fisher showed how good of a recruiter he was in his tenure at Florida State and College Station should be no different as he has the great state of Texas to recruit.
Over/Under 7 Wins's Latest Performance :
Texas A&M finished 2017 with a 7-5 record and lost the Belk Bowl to Wake Forest 55-52 but they should be much better under Jimbo Fisher who has a proven track record. Given the schedule and the fact that Texas A&M has a new coach at the helm oddsmakers have set the over/under at 7 wins which would match last seasons record.
Welcome To The SEC
Jimbo Fisher is no stranger to big-time games as he played in them every once and a while but his transition to Texas A&M has put him in a really tough situation as he has to play 4 or 5 tough opponents in conference play. Jimbo will be given a tough task in only the 2nd week of the season as he will have to welcome in a similar opponent in the Clemson Tigers who should be as dangerous as usual. Fisher also has to travel to the best two teams in the SEC West as he has to travel to both Alabama and Auburn which will could be rude awakenings for the first year coach. Fishers non-conference schedule consists of games against UAB, Lousiana-Monroe, and Northwestern State. Fisher is a great coach and he has the talent to compete but he might be a year or two away from truly scaring the powerhouses of the SEC West.
Texas A&M Aggies's Latest Performance :
Jimbo Fisher left one QB battle at Florida State to jump into another as he has two young QBs to decide between at Texas A&M who both saw time last season. Fisher brings in a pro-style offense and he has the option to start either Nick Starkel or Kellen Mond who are both sophomores. Nick Starkel threw 22 fewer passes than Mond but he had a much better stat line as he compiled over 1793 yards and 14 TDs compared to Mond’s 1375 yards and 8 TDs. If we learned anything from Fishers time at Florida State its the fact that he breeds NFL running backs, and he may just have another one in Trayveon Williams. Williams is a small back at 5’9 but that doesn’t phase the speedy junior as he led the Aggies in rushing yards with 798. Whoever is taking snaps for Texas A&M this season will be in good shape considering the young receivers Fisher compiles on his roster even after losing their top target in Christian Kirk. Jhamon Ausbon was really good in his freshmen season as he was 3rd on the team in receiving yards with 571 and we should see a much better year considering he has a year under his belt. Jalen Preston could see time in his freshmen season after being one of the most coveted recruits in the state of Texas this past year. The Aggies should be well off on the defensive side of the ball after they made a big-time hire in Mike Elko. Elko will get one of the best defensive ends in the country in Landis Durham who ended his junior season with 10.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss. Tyrel Dodson also returns for Elko after leading the team in tackles last season with 104. The one concern lies in the secondary as the Aggies are left with a lack of depth and inexperience.
Player To Watch
Clifford Chattman, DB, SO
As I stated Texas A&M is left with some holes in the secondary due to their youth but one guy who should step in and help is Clifford Chattman who had to miss last season due to academic ineligibility. Chattman was a 4-star recruit out of high school and he saw some key time during his freshmen season which shows the talent level he has. Chattman is a lengthy cornerback as he sits at 6’5 and he should thrive under Jimbo Fisher as Fisher polished some big corners during his time at Florida State. Expect Chattman to play a major role in his sophomore season and grab a couple of interceptions.

Against The Spread Selection: Push, Lean Over 7 Wins
My reason for the pick :
Looking at the schedule I see Texas A&M doing enough to make a bowl game as they should win 6 games no problem but looking at the over/under from a bettors standpoint I have them hitting the 7 mark which would result in a push. The reason I say to go with over the 7 win total is that Jimbo Fisher is the type of coach who can pull some upsets due to his previous track record. Texas A&M could possibly steal one of the games from South Carolina or Mississippi State on the road which would put them over the total. I wouldn’t also say it’s a stretch to say that Fisher can put a little scare into Clemson considering Fisher seeing Dabo year after year as well as it being the first big game at Kyle Field.
