Over/Under 7.5 Wins vs Florida State Seminoles
The Florida State Seminoles are as fired up as they have been in a long time as they kick out the Jimbo Fisher era and welcome in Willie Taggart who brings a new approach to the game. Taggart looks to improve on a disappointing season for the Seminoles as they finished 6-6 which is well below Florida State standards. To the credit of the young Seminoles, they were able to keep alive the longest active bowl streak as they made the Walk-On Independence Bowl where they crushed Southern Miss, 42-13. Taggart brings a fast pace offense to the table which proved to be successful in his last two stops (South Florida and Oregon). Although Florida State had a bad season in 2017 they return a lot of key pieces as well as brought in some hot names on the recruiting trail. Taggart was able to make moves late on the recruiting road as he ended up as the 3rd best team in the ACC in terms of recruits. Taggart failed to land a 5-star recruit but he was still able to grab 12 4-star recruits who have potential to see time early on in their career. Florida State is looking to return as one of the best teams in the ACC which is a reasonable task.
Over/Under 7.5 Wins's Latest Performance :
Florida State experienced an off year even though they were able to make their 36 straight bowl game which is currently the best streak in all of division 1 football. Given the fact that FSU has some holes to fill on the defensive side of the ball and at wide receiver as well as break in a new coach, oddsmakers have the over/under at 7.5 wins.
Tough Road Slate
The Florida State Seminoles should return back to national championship contenders in the coming years but with the tough slate of games this season it will be a tall task to compete on the big stage. Florida State will have a rough couple of road games this season as they have to travel to both Miami and Norte Dame which are top 10 teams this coming season. To Florida State’s advantage, they will see two of their best opponents at home as they will host both Clemson and in-state rival Florida. They will also get the luxury of opening the season at home against Virginia Tech which will be a testiment to Willie Taggart and his up beat offense. The two easy games on the schedule are against FCS foe Samford and Nothern Illinois who will both travel to Doak Campbell. Florida State has potential to make some noise this season despite their tough road games.
Florida State Seminoles's Latest Performance :
Florida State is not only looking forward to seeing how they perform under their first-year coach but also in seeing who wins the QB battle as they are presented two top notch guys. The guy who started 2017 was Deondre Francios but after a season-ending injury in the first game against Alabama true freshmen James Blackman stepped in and experienced ups and downs. Blackman was a skinny QB as he came in at 185 which showed at the beginning of the year as he was getting sacked right and left but overall the former 3-star recruit had a solid season as he compiled over 2230 yards and 19 TDs through the air. The running back position should thrive most under Willie Taggart as they return two of the best running backs in college football in Cam Akers and Jacques Patrick. Akers was one of the best recruits last year and he showed why in his freshmen season as he rushed for over 1025 yards and 7 TDs. Patrick is the bigger of the backs as he comes in at 6’3 235 LBS but he showed some explosiveness last season as he rushed for 784 yards and 7 TDs. The receiver position could be a question mark this season considering the Seminoles lost 2 of their top 3 pass catchers to the NFL. Nyqwan Murray was the #1 guy in 2017 as he had over 604 yards and he will have to improve on those numbers this year if he wants a chance at making the NFL or in making sure FSU returns to relevancy. The Seminoles defensively will see a lot of new names as they lost some of their best players to the 2018 draft. Brian Burns and Joshua Kaindoh return to the defensive line and should be much improved in a full-time role as they combined for 20 TFL and 8.5 sacks even though they played primarily on third down. 4-star recruit Jaiden Woodbury will have to play a big role this season as a true freshman as his game resembles Derwin James who was one of the best Seminole safties of all-time.
Player To Watch
George Campbell, WR, RS Jr.
As I stated Willie Taggart will need to figure out who to throw in the starting receiver role considering some of their big names now play on the professional level. One guy who could fill that void for FSU is former 5-star recruit George Campbell who has fallen off in his time in Tallahassee whether it was injuries or depth. Campbell was expected to step up into a big role last season in what was his 3rd season in Jimbo Fisher’s offense but the wideout failed to do so as he only compiled 122 yards on 6 catches. I expect Campbell to use this coaching change as a chance to break out as he has not been able to show his talent level (even though he was a 5-star). Campbell cracks 500+ yards this season if he can stay healthy.

My reason for the pick :
Florida State has been a contender year in and year out and I get they are coming off a bad season as well as bringing in a new coach but this team is filled with young talent who used 2017 as a growing year. James Blackman should win the starting QB job given the fact that he showed strides of improvement in 2017 and he has two running backs who are hungry for 1000 yards each. The defense should grow under their new defensive coordinator and as every team goes through growing pains so will the Seminoles. The one game you might be scratching your head at is the Clemson game but I feel as Florida State could take that game at home given their recent matchups. Florida State played neck to neck with the ACC champions last season and Clemson had a much better roster last season so I expect FSU to get over the hump and win their first monumental game in the Taggart era. Unfourtanley winning 10 games in the ACC Atlantic division won’t be enough for the Noles to get back to the ACC championship game as Clemson should win 11 games. Take FSU over the 7.5 win total.
