Over/Under 10 Wins vs Miami Hurricanes
The Miami Hurricanes are coming off their best season since 2003 as they went 10-3 with appearances in both the ACC championship game and in the Orange Bowl which has people wondering if the ‘U’ is back. Mark Richt came back to Miami in 2016 and he has hit the reset button on a storied program as he has instilled a winning culture in Florida. Miami did endure some late-season struggles as they dropped their last 3 games but Richt returns enough offensive weapons and a stingy defense which should put the Hurricanes as the favorite in the ACC Coastal division. Miami was able to show they are truly back by making some big splashes in the recruiting game as they kept some homegrown talent in the state. The Hurricanes were able to rank 2nd in the ACC in terms of a recruiting class as they landed 14 4-stars and 1 5-star. They were able to keep the #2 running back in the state of Florida as Lorenzo Lingard picked Miami over Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State. Miami is in good shape under Mark Richt and I expect this team to take another step forward in 2018 as they should learn from their big game collapses in 2017.
Over/Under 10 Wins's Latest Performance :
Miami was well on track to finish the 2017 regular season undefeated but after their offense blanked in the Pittsburgh game we saw this team freefall down the AP rankings. Miami is much more experienced entering this season which I assume will prevent this team from dropping more than 2 games again. Considering the returners on both sides of the ball oddsmakers have the over/under set at 10 wins which would match 2017’s production.
ACC Coastal Champs
Yep, I said it already Miami will win the ACC Coastal division once again not only due to their experienced roster but due to the fact that they have one of the best schedules possible. Miami will get to open the season against LSU in a neutral site game but due to all of the turnover they had on their roster, they should have no problem whipping around the SEC. The one other game I see as tough for Miami is their home matchup against their hated rivals in the Florida State Seminoles but I see Miami winning for a second consecutive year mainly because they have them at home this year. The Hurricanes could put up 150 points in a three-game span this season as they will get to host Savannah State and FIU as well as travel to Toledo who poses no threat to the big bad Hurricanes. The ACC road games should be easy for Miami as they will have to travel to Virginia, Boston College, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech. Look for Miami to have no problem in winning the Coastal division.
Miami Hurricanes's Latest Performance :
The Hurricanes have been known in the past for their stingy defense which was the case last season as well as they were one of the top in the nation, but they still need to put the offense with the defense if they want to be a national championship contender. Miami’s late-season struggles can be accredited to their senior QB Malik Rozier who lost his rhythm. Rozier was able to finish the year with 3120 yards through the air but the right-handed QB was inconsistent in securing the ball as he threw 14 interceptions. Richt has stated multiple times throughout the spring that Rozier’s job is not secure which has names like N’Kosi Perry and Jarren Williams buzzing for the job. The running back position will give a security blanket to whoever is at the QB spot as they return Travis Homer who combined for over 1185 yards and 9 TDs in 2017. Ahmmon Richards should also be ready to return back to form as the All-American wideout is returning from knee surgery after having only 24 catches in 2017. Defensively the Hurricanes should be in good shape as they return most of their key pieces from the 2017 team. Safety Jaquan Johnson should have another monster year in his senior season as he had a team-high in tackles with 96 as well as in interceptions with 4. He will be joined by fellow senior defensive back Michael Jackson who matched Johnson’s interception total with 4 in 2017. The Linebackers should continue to be physical as both Shaquille Quarterman and Michael Pickney return for another season after combining for 151 tackles, 18 TFLs, and 6 sacks last year. Look for the turnover chain to come out a ton this year as the secondary and linebackers are known for their playmaking abilities.
Player To Watch
DeeJay Dallas, ATH, So.
DeeJay Dallas is a special player for the Hurricanes as he saw both time at running back and defensive back during his freshmen season but this year the role should be expended for Dallas. Dallas has the ability to make some big-time plays which we saw in flashes last season and he will have to use that playmaking ability in a returner role this year. The Hurricanes had Braxton Berrios the last few seasons who was a very explosive returner and as much as Hurricane fans hate to see him go, they should be just as excited to have Dallas back there as he can do many things. Look for Dallas to be a Jabrill Peppers type of player for Mark Richt.

My reason for the pick :
The U is definitely back as they will be fighting for a playoff spot but in terms of over/under I see Miami crushing the 10 win mark as they have a very winnable schedule. The Hurricanes one loss will come against the Virginia Tech Hokies as they will melt down on the road at the end of the season against a fairly solid team. The quarterback position is the one spot that may concern many of the Hurricane followers but Mark Richt has developed some fairly good QBs in his time so whether it’s Rozier or Perry I am sure Miami will be in good hands. The Turnover chain will come out a whole bunch in 2018 as the Hurricanes will meet Clemson in the ACC championship for a playoff spot.
