Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Louisville Cardinals vs Alabama Crimson Tide

The Louisville Cardinals will travel to Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, September 1st, 2018, at 8 pm EST.  Bama, fresh off a 13-1 campaign in 2017, will be looking to restructure themselves in a hurry in which to get ready for a yet another nationals title run in 2018.  The great thing about it for Alabama fans is that they have the talent in skilled positions to make it happen.  Of course, the defense will be outstanding once again with a mix of new and experienced players that will certainly benefit them over time.  Louisville, on the other hand, would suffer the loss of many of their playmakers due to the draft along with graduation, and will use this season in which to usher in new talent that could possibly return them back to prominence.  This will be the first matchup amongst these two teams in recent memory as the last time they would meet would be in 1-1-1991 where the Cardinals would get the 34-7 blowout win in the Fiesta bowl.

Louisville Cardinals's Latest Performance :

Alabama Coach Nick Saban, fresh off an $800k raise due to winning his 5th National Championship, expects his team to continue to illustrate the tenacity and focus in 2018 that it did in years prior.  Jalen Hurts (2081 yards, 17 TD’s, 1 INT, 67% competition rate) will return for his Junior season and will certainly have his share of weapons to choose from within the backfield in Senior Damien Harris (1000 yards, 135 rushes, 11 TD’s), Najee Harris (370 yards, 61 rushes, 3 TD’s), along with Joshua Jacobs (284 yards, 46 rushes, 1 TD).  Also, Devonta Smith (160 yards 8 receptions, 3 TD’s), Jerry Jeudy (264 yards, 14 receptions, 2 TD’s), and Junior TE Erv Willis (128 yards, 14 receptions, 3 TD’s) will also be active in the passing game for the Tide this year.

The Bama defense will take a slight step back in 2018 after losing the bulk of their secondary, however, they have players that are willing and able to step up such as Mack Wilson (40 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 3 INT’s) will take charge of the middle of the defense from his linebacker position while Senior Isaiah Buggs (51 tackles, 4 TFL, 1.5 sacks), Raekwon Davis (69 tackles, 10 TFL, 8.5 sacks, 1 INT), along with Senior Darren Payne (53 tackles) will look to take control of the trenches for the defending champs in 2018.

Alabama Crimson Tide 's Latest Performance :

The Cardinals look to retool in 2018 after losing their do it all QB Lamar Jackson along with running back Reggie Bonafon.  They do, however, have some valuable pieces of the puzzle that remains including Sophomore Dae Williams (235 yards, 38 rushes, 3 TD’s), who will man the backfield while Seniro Jaylin Smith (980 yards, 60 receptions, 7 TD’s) and sophomore Dez Fitzpatrick (699 yards, 45 receptions, 9 TD’s) will lead the receiving corps in 2018.  Junior receiver Seth Dawkins (642 yards, 42 receptions, 4 TD’s) will also be a critical piece for Louisville as it relates to the passing game.  Jawon Pass (238 yards, 2 TD’s, 69.7 completion %) will take over for Jackson under center after limited time in 2017 on the field.  Nonetheless, he will also play a pivotal role in the Cardinals success this year.

The Defense for Louisville was decimated due to graduation along with the draft, however, Dorian Etherege (72 tackles, 3 TFL) will attempt to become the leader of this unit as a sophomore from a decent season in 2017.  They will also be deep and experienced in the secondary as Dee Gordon (53 tackles, 1 RFL, 1 INT) along with TreShawn Smith (34 tackles, 4 TFL, 1 sack, 2 INT’s) will become the leaders for the back end of the D.

How Louisville Cardinals & Alabama Crimson Tide Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This matchup will certainly be an interesting one to behold.  This is not because I feel as if the Tide are in danger of dropping this week 1 matchup, but, because it would be worth watching simply to see the actual status of the Louisville Cardinals for 2018.  Of course, talent-wise, the Cardinals are down as opposed to recent years; Nonetheless, I feel that they will indeed have a decent showing,,,if only for around a half, that is.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide -25

My reason for the pick :

Of course, the Tide will dominate in this matchup as Louisville simply lost too much talent and experience on both sides of the ball to really compete in this matchup.  And while Alabama will go about its job in dominating its opponents for 4 solid quarters, the score will indeed exceed the 25-point mark set for this contest, as their experience and intensity will begin to shine early.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under 61

My reason for the prediction :

While I feel as though the Tide will indeed cash in on the spread, I happen to believe that they have yet another dominant defense on their hands.  In other words, the Tide will not allow the Cardinals to pick up many yards on the ground, thus leaving the inexperienced backup QB in a position to attempt to make things happen.  The problem for Louisville is that may be what the doctor ordered if you are Alabama.  In all, Bama will dominate in this game, however, due to their stellar defense, the under will indeed be the play in this contest.
