Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Miami Hurricanes vs LSU Tigers

Both the LSU Tigers and the Miami Hurricanes will make the trip to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, for the AdvoCare Classic for week 1 college football action on Sunday night, September 2nd, 2018, beginning at 7:30 pm EST.  This will be the first matchup between these two teams in 13 years as the Tigers would beat Miami 40-3 in the Peach Bowl on 12-30-2018.  The Hurricanes, on one hand, look to build from a 10-3 record (7-1 ACC) in 2017 to hopefully put themselves in a position to make the playoffs.  With a senior signal caller in place, they certainly have a great chance in which to prove themselves, particularly in their week 1 matchup versus the LSU Tigers.  The Tigers look to improve upon their 9-4 record in 2017 while also revving up the play at the QB position, as this has been an area that has kept them in neutral in the past.  They would go on to lose by a 21-17 score at the hands of the fighting Irish of Notre Dame in the Citrus Bowl on 12-30-2018.  In all, this has the makings of a hard-hitting and exciting matchup to where each team will take advantage of their opportunities while also attempting to establish themselves early in the trenches in which to take control of this contest.

Miami Hurricanes's Latest Performance :

Miles Brennan will step up to the plate for LSU in hopes of providing a bit of stability to the QB position for the Tigers in 2018.  He had limited experience last year in throwing for only 182 yards with 1 TD, 2 INT’s, with a 58.3% passer rating.  He will have some talent to work with in Baton Rouge as Senior TE Foster Moreau (278 yards, 24 receptions, 3 TD’s) along with Junior Stephen Sullivan (219 yards, 11 Receptions, 1 TD) will each be looking to become more apart of the offense this year in which to make it much easier for Brennnan.

The defense will indeed take a bit of a step back as they would lose a few skilled players from within the defensive line as well as linebacker positions, however, leading tackler Devin White (133 tackles, 13.5 TFL, 4.5 sacks, 1 INT) will be returning and will be the tip of the spear for this LSU unit.  The Tigers will also have some experience within the secondary as John Battle (61 tackles, 2.5 TFL, .5 sacks, 1 INT) will return for his senior season while sophomores Grant Delpit (60 tackles, 3.5 TFL, INT) will join Andreaez Williams at cornerback to make a decent team on the outside.

LSU Tigers 's Latest Performance :

Malik Rosier will return for his senior season after a Junior season to where he would pass for over 3, 000 yards along with 26 TD’s and 7 INT’s (passer rating 54%), yet, the Canes would lose to the Wisconsin Badgers in the Orange Bowl by a 34-24 score.   Junior Travis Homer (966 yards, 163 attempts, 8 TD’s) will be retuning in he backfield for Miami while Senior Mark Walton (428 yards, 58 rushes, 3 TD’s) will also see considerable time in the backfield.  They will also possess considerable amounts of talent on the outside as Ahmmon Richards (439 yards, 24 catches, 3 TD’s) along with Lawrence Cager (237 yards, 16 catches, 3 TD’s) will lead the receiving corps in 2018.

Linebacker Shaquille Quraterman (83 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 2.5 sacks) along with Michael Pinkney (68 tackles, 11 TFL, 3.5 sacks, INT) will be the chief signal callers for this stifling defense.  Junior Joe Jackson (50 tackles, 10.5 TFL, 6.5 sacks) will be the leaders in the trenches for the Canes.  They will also be experienced in the secondary with a senior laden group in Michael Jackson (43 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack, 4 INT’s), Shedrick Redwine (59 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 2 INT), and Jaguan Johnson (96 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 INT, 4 INT’s), who will each look to make a huge impact on opposing offenses this year.

How Miami Hurricanes & LSU Tigers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This LSU defense will certainly be up for the challenge in facing this up and coming Miami team.  On the other hand, Miami will get a chance to get a better look into how their team will shape up to some of the top competition in the nation.  While moving the ball should be tough for both teams in this matchup, one could say that this will be the most interesting aspect of this game.  In all, both teams should be focused on setting the tone in the trenches while allowing this to set to serve as a catalyst for the rest of the season.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Miami Hurricanes -3

My reason for the pick :

Regardless of how awful the LSU offense has been (or what it may very well become soon), one could always count on the LSU defense to step up in its place to carry the load.  I have no doubt that this will be the case this year as they are ushering in a new QB that has a bit of experience, yet, has not received many snaps during his time in Baton Rouge.  With that being said, the Miami defense will certainly get after this Tiger offense in week 1.  Their defensive line certainly has potential and when adding in the fact that Rozier returns with some targets to throw to, I like the Hurricanes to cover slightly in this matchup.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under 48

My reason for the prediction :

As stated, this LSU defense knows that they must be the tip of the spear considering their anemic offense.  It is for this reason that I will ride the under in this matchup in that Rozier may indeed be in store for a great season, however, he will not be able to simply pick apart this resilient defense.  In the end, I expect there not to be many points scored in this matchup as both defenses are young and talented with much to prove this season.
