Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Stony Brook Seawolves vs Air Force Falcons
The Seawolves of Stony Brook University will travel to Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to battle the Air Force Falcons in week 1 college football action on Saturday, 9-1-2018 at 2 pm EST. This will be the first meeting ever amongst these two teams, however, both will be looking to begin the season on a positive note after what turned out to be a great season for the Seawolves in 2017 as they ended their campaign with a record of 10-3 while losing to the Dukes of James Madison in the FCS semis by a 26-7 score on 12-2-2017. The Falcons would have a lackluster season last year as they would end at 5-7, their first losing season in 3 years. Nonetheless, Coach Troy Calhoun looks to get his team back on track in 2018 as he will need to work in a new quarterback along with a new group of players at the skill position as they were hit hard by graduation. This matchup will be interesting in that it will serve to give each squad some type of outlook as to what their overall identity will be for the upcoming 2018 season, altogether.
Stony Brook Seawolves's Latest Performance :
While the Seawolves were stellar last year in terms of wins and losses, this year they will need to incorporate a new signal caller into the offense as well in Danny Sanchez. He will be joined in the backfield by Sophomore Kameron Pickett and Senior Jordan Goins who are both looking to increase their playing time as well as their overall effectiveness to the team’s running game. Sophomore Seba Nekhet will attempt to step up as it relates to the receiving corps while Senior Donavan Watson will also need to provide leadership for a young and experienced group.
The Stony Brook defense will be led by Casey Williams and Junior Brandon Lopez will step in to disrupt opposing offenses within the trenches while Sophomore EJ Fineran, who would get very limited playing time last year, will pull full time duties this year and linebacker in which to back up Williams and Lopez in the trenches. Sophomore Augie Contressa along with TJ Morrison will man the defensive secondary while also looking to make a huge defensive impact this year.
Air Force Falcons's Latest Performance :
Isiah Sanders (218 yds, 50 att, 3 TD’s) will likely take the reins at QB in what will be his junior season for the Falcons while Taven Birdo (228 yds, 40 att, 1 TD) and Junior Nolan Erickson (384 yds, 88, 5 TD’s) will certainly need to step up in the running game for Ari Force to be successful this year. They were also hit hard in the receiving department by graduation, yet, Geraud Sanders (194 yds, 9 rec, 3 TD’s) and Kade Waquespack will also need to provide some leadership and experience to a decimated offense that average a tad over 300 yards rushing in 2017.
The defense will need to replace many within both the linebacking corps along with in the secondary, however, Mosese Fifita (20 tckls, 3 TFL, 1 sack) will attempt to take up a bit of the slack due their defensive line losses from last year. Furthermore, Lakota Willis (47 tackles, 6 TFL, 2 scks, I INT) will look to man the linebacking corps while James Jones (52 tackles, INT) will lead the secondary as a junior in 2018. They will certainly need focus and intensity in matching up with a solid Stony Brook team that would win 10 games last year.
How Stony Brook Seawolves & Air Force Falcons Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Falcons and Seawolves are young and inexperienced this year, particularly, on offense, as they will both usher in news QB’s on Saturday. The Defenses, on the other hand, were also hit by graduation, thus making it interesting to see which team will exert themselves within the trenches first in which to gain some type of upper hand in this matchup. I really do not expect many points to be scored in this matchup as both offenses will attempt to keep things basic, for the most part, while working in news talent. In all, both teams, as stated, will definitely bring the focus as each looks to begin on a positive and winning note.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Stony Brook
My reason for the pick :
While I have little confidence in either of these squads, the fact is that the Falcons will indeed experience some growing pains this year in their attempt to replace players at the skilled positions. Stony Brook has just enough in place from their squad last year in which to keep this game close while maybe even pulling off the win outright. As stated, focus and intensity will not be the problem as I believe both will illustrate, however, the Seawolves would love to pick a big win on the road in this week 1 showdown. In all, I will ride the Wolves as they have a bit more talent in this instance.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
With both offenses in transition, I will side with the under in this matchup as I do not see many points being scored due to mainly struggling offenses that may need to gel amongst each other during the first few weeks of the season. It would be reasonable to feel as though the defenses will certainly hold their own in this contest, as they will take center stage in a defensive battle.
