Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Kansas State Wildcats

The Mississippi State Bulldogs will travel to Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kansas, to battle the Kansas State wildcats on 9-8-2018 in week 2 college football SEC versus Big 12 action.  The Mississippi State Bulldogs are fresh off a 63-6 home win over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, 9-1-2018 as they would cash in on the spread (-47.5) while the total was not set for this matchup at all.  The Wildcats would pick up a huge 27-24 win over the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State at home in opening week as they would not cover the spread as heavy favorites ((-24) while the under was the play with total being set at 64.5 for the game.  There are no previous meetings between these two teams, however, one could bet that this will be a highly competitive struggle against two prideful teams that are looking to keep their momentum going early in the season.

Mississippi State Bulldogs's Latest Performance :

While K-State had trouble with their week 1 opponent, the Bulldogs of Miss State cruised to victory in a 63-6 home win over Stephen F Austin to which they would rack up 221 yards on the ground alongside 398 yards passing for the game with Keyton Thompson going 13 for 31 for 364 yards and 5 TD’s in the win while also rushing for 109 yards on 10 attempts.  Kylin Hill would also have 50 yards on 9 rushes for the Bulldogs.  The receiving corps was led by Osiris Mitchell, who would have only 2 catches for 113 yards and 2 scores while Dantae Jones would have a 17-yard TD catch in the game as well.  The defense would allow only 177 yards passing to SFA while giving up 77 yards rushing also while allowing the offense to pick up 16 first downs total.  Jonathan Abram would have 5 tackles in the win while Jeffrey Simmons and Jamal Peters would have 3 stops each for the defensive unit.  Montez Sweat would have 2 sacks for the home team as well.

Kansas State Wildcats's Latest Performance :

The K-State Bulldogs would rack up a total of 256 yards rushing against the jackrabbits on Saturday along with 152 yards via the air as Alex Delton would go only 5 of 14 with 91 yards and an INT while Skylar Thompson would also receive some time under center going 8 of 14 for 61 yards, a TD along with an INT in the game.  Alex Barnes (21 rushes, 103 yds) would lead the rushing attack for the Wildcats while Delton would also rush 12 times for 78 yards total.  Isiah Zuber would have 5 catches for 68 yards and a TD while Dalton Scheon would have 54 yards on 3 catches for the home team.  The defense would allow only 77 yards rushing in the contest while allowing 257 yards through the air along with a total of 17 first downs for their opponents.  Duke Shelly would have 8 tackles in the victory for the Wildcats while Denzel Goolsby and Walter Neil Jr would each have 3 stops to lead the defensive unit.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Miss State will certainly be looking at this game as a litmus test for their team while the Wildcats will be looking to put week 1 squeaker behind them in which to prepare for a more talented and speedy SEC team in the Bulldogs.  I expect this to be an exciting, low-scoring affair where both teams will battle for 60 minutes.  Of course, both teams will benefit from momentum a time of two throughout, yet, it will be interesting to see how/if the Wildcats offense can somehow get something going against such an active and aggressive defense as Miss State possesses on Saturday.  If not, it may be another long day for the home team, overall.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Mississippi State Bulldogs -9.5

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Bulldogs in this game as the Wildcats really struggled against a motivated South Dakota State team in opening week.  Of course, they would stick with their bread and butter, which happened to be the running game, and were very successful while their passing game struggled all night.  One has to expect that they will not be able to run, at will, on the Bulldogs as they will be much stouter up front on D while also being very motivated after what was a fine tune up game versus SFA.  The Wildcats will provide their fans with some momentum in which they will cheer, however, expect Miss State to come out on top while covering the spread late.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under 54.5

My reason for the prediction :

I happen to feel as if the Bulldogs will shut down this offense for the Wildcats as their QB play will likely be an issue all season long.  their running game will be decent against the Bulldogs, however, they will not be able to gain nowhere near the amount of yardage that they accumulated during the opening week.  It is for this reason that the Bulldogs will jump out on the home team, starting on defense, while the offense will score just enough to pull out a victory in a low-scoring defensive battle.
