Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Western Michigan Broncos vs Michigan Wolverines
The winless Broncos of Western Michigan will travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan to take on a sore Michigan Wolverine squad that was manhandled in the opening week, yet seeks a victory, at Michigan Stadium on 9-8-2018 beginning at 12 noon. The Wolverines would drop a road game versus the Notre Dame Fighting Irish by a 24-17 score to where they would not cash in on the spread as favorites (-2.5) while the under was the play with totals being set at 47.5 for the game. The Broncos would also fall by a 55-42 score in a high-scoring matchup versus the Orange of Syracuse last Saturday as they would miss out on the spread as well (+5) while the over was the play with the total being set at 65.5 for the game. The last time these two teams met dates to 9-3-2011 when the Wolverines would get the 34-10 win at home.
Western Michigan Broncos's Latest Performance :
The Broncos of Western Michigan would struggle with their opponent as well as they would suffer on the defensive side of the ball in giving up 334 yards total along with 226 yards passing on the day with 26 first downs to Syracuse. Nonetheless, AJ Thomas would step up for the defensive unit with 10 tackles on the night while Alex Grace would have 8 stops total. Ali Fayad would have a sack in the loss as well for WMU. Their offense would have a great day with 379 passing yards alongside 242 rushing yards with 24 first downs. Jon Wassink would go 19 of 36 with 3 TD’s, yet, with 2 picks in the loss while Lavante Bellamy would rush 11 times for 120 yards and 2 TD’s. Jamauri Bogan would rush for a total of 68 yards on 6 carries while De’Wayne Eskeridge would have 8 catches for 2440 yards and 2 scores. Finally, Jayden Reed would also have 7 catches for 121 yards and a TD.
Michigan Wolverines 's Latest Performance :
Michigan would allow the Irish 21 first downs on 136 yards rushing along with 174 yards passing as Tyree Kennel would have 8 stops to lead the defense. Devin Bush, Brad Hawkins, and Chase Winovich would have 6 tackles apiece in the loss. Their offense would garner up 249 yards passing along with just 58 yards rushing with 20 first downs total. They may suffer in this matchup as well in that Shea Patterson (20 for 30, INT) is questionable after being injured against the Irish. Nonetheless, Dylan McCaffrey stepped in for the Wolverines as he would end the game with 22 yards on 4 of 6 passing. Karan Higdon would rush for 72 yards on 12 attempts with a TD while Patterson would rush 5 times for -21 yards total. Donavan Peoples-Jones (6 rec, 38 yds), Grant Perry (5 rec, 48 yds), and Nico Collins (3 rec, 66 yds) would pace the receiving corps for the Wolverines in defeat.
How Western Michigan Broncos & Michigan Wolverines Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Michigan is 0-1 ATS while the O/U is 0-1
WMU is 0-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-0
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
For Michigan, one can say that this game would be just perfect. A defense that looks to get much better after being kicked around by the Irish for 4 quarters against an offense that had several playmakers make a difference in a home loss to Syracuse last Saturday. On the other hand, the Michigan offense was stifled by Notre Dame for much of the game last week, particularly in the run game, however, the Broncos gave up 334 rushing yards to Syracuse in their week 1 defeat. Look for this matchup to be interesting in that one team will gain control of the trenches early in which to break this game open.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Western Michigan +27
My reason for the pick :
I will back WMU in this matchup only because of Patterson becoming injured and uncertain for this game. Needless to say, this will certainly have a big impact on a Michigan team that could certainly use his playmaking ability for an offense that slept walk for most of the contest against the Irish. Also, the Broncos will indeed try out their playmakers on this Michigan secondary as well in hopes of finding some exploitable areas throughout this matchup. In all, I believe that the Broncos will keep this well within the set total in what will be an exciting game, as both teams could use a much-needed victory.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under (off)
My reason for the prediction :
Again, with Patterson’s status not being known while also believing that though the Broncos may indeed keep this close for much of this contest due to Michigan’s anemia on offense thus far, I will back the under in this game. I happen to feel as if the overall timing of the Wolverine offense is off kilter and they will certainly need to get back to basics against a suspect defense in the Broncos that were slashed on the ground by their opponent in week 1. I expect the under to remain the strong play and while both teams will get some first downs, they will find it difficult to score touchdowns at key points in the game.
