Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Colorado Buffaloes vs Nebraska Cornhuskers
The Colorado Buffaloes will travel to Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska, to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers in week 2 college football action on 9-8-2018 beginning at 3:30 pm EST. The Buffaloes would pick up a 45-13 road win over the Colorado State Rams last Saturday as they would cash in on the spread (-7) while the under was the play with the total being set at 65.5 points for the game. This will be the Cornhuskers first game of the 2018 campaign as their opening week matchup with Akron was postponed, however, they are more than ready for the challenge that awaits as they possess some talent that will be returning while possessing young, yet, potentially talented nucleus of players that will certainly make their presence known throughout the year. These two teams last met on 11-26-2010 as the Huskers would pick up the 45-17 home win to which they would cover the spread (-17.5) while the over was the play with 48 points being surpassed.
Colorado Buffaloes's Latest Performance :
The Colorado Buffaloes would cruise to victory over the Rams last Saturday as their offense would put up 338 yards in the air while having 258 yards on the ground with 24 first downs as Steven Montez would go 22 for 25 with 338 yards, 4 TD’s and an INT in the win while rushing for 34 yards and a TD as well. Traon McMillian would have 103 yards on 10 carries and a score while Kyle Eveans and Beau Bishart would combine for 17 rushes for 113 yards in the victory. Laviska Shenault Jr (11 rec, 211 yards, TD) along with K.D. Nixon (6 rec, 112 yards, TD) would lead the receiving corps for the Buffs. The defense would allow the Rams 181 passing yards along with 103 rushing yards on 21 first downs for the game. Josh Watson would have 7 tackles along with 8 assists while Ellison Hubbard and Jan-Phillip Bombek would have 3 tackles apiece.
Nebraska Cornhuskers's Latest Performance :
Adrian Martinez will lead the Cornhuskers under center this year as a Freshmen and his duel-quarterback style will certainly serve to keep defenses off balance. Devin Ozigbo (493 yds, 129 rushes, 3 TD) will be back for his senior year at running back while senior Mikael Wilborn (379 yards, 88 rushes, 6 TD’s) will also shore up the running game in 2018. Receivers Stanley Morgan (986 yards, 61 rec, 10 TD’s) will provide tons of experience and leadership at the position while Sophomore JT Spielman (830 yards, 55 rec, 2 TD’s) will also provide some playmaking ability to Nebraska in 2018. Junior Tyrin Ferguson and Luke Gifford (39 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks) will lead a young defensive unit for the Huskers while Dicaprio Bootle will man the cornerback corps as a sophomore as he will certainly look to improve from last year’s 15 total tackles (1 TFL).
How Colorado Buffaloes & Nebraska Cornhuskers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Colorado is 1-0 ATS while the O/U is 0-1
Nebraska is 0-0 ATS while the O/U is 0-0
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Nebraska will get its first action of the 2018 season after their game against Akron was postponed for opening week. The Buffaloes, on the other hand, come in very confident as they were able to obliterate a Colorado State team in week 1. In all, expect this game to be one that is up and down in that you have a Colorado team that has a dangerous passing game against a younger, inexperienced defense for the Cornhuskers. On the other hand, the Buffaloes D was not tried much versus CSU last week, so, I also expect Nebraska to attempt to pick things up in the passing game only to get something going on the ground against a Buff defense that allowed just over 100 yards rushing last week.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Colorado Buffaloes +4
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Buffaloes in this game not only because they have some talent across the board on offense, but, I happen to feel as though despite the Cornhuskers being motivated to get on the field after their week 1 postponement, they will have problems getting into the flow of this game early due to youth and inexperience. The Buffs, on the other hand, will take the momentum from their last road win in which to come out blazing early against the home team. In all, look for Colorado to cover in this matchup while also having a chance to win outright.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 66
My reason for the prediction :
I see the Cornhuskers offense struggling in this game on both sides of the ball. For one, their defense will be ushering in some new faces while their offense suffers from lack of experience as well. And while they may have some talent at receiver, the Huskers will not be able to keep up with the offense that they Buffaloes will bring to the table. In all, the Buffs will score just enough to get the convincing win over Nebraska at home while the under will be the play in the end.
