Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Georgia State Panthers vs Memphis Tigers

The Panthers of Georgia State will stay on the road in week 3 while looking to recover from a 41-7 road loss last Saturday at the hands of the NC State Wolfpack as they will take on the Memphis Tigers at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee, on Friday night beginning at 7 pm EST.  The Panthers would not cash in on the spread as 25.5-point underdogs against the Wolfpack while the under was the play with the total being set at 56.5 points for the game.  The Tigers would also not cash out on the spread in their week 2 matchup as 7-point favorites versus the Navy Midshipmen as they would lose outright by a 22-21 score while the under of 67 points would not be surpassed.  This will be their first meeting against each other, however, both will be looking to get back on the winning track by shoring up their pass and run defenses which were the catalyst for their most previous losses.

Georgia State Panthers's Latest Performance :

Navy would score 13 points in the final period on a Tigers D that would give up a total of 264 yards rushing for the day en route to a heartbreaking 22-21 loss last Saturday on the road. Tim Hart, however, would have 7 tackles (4 ass) for Memphis while Curtis Atkins, Tyrez Lindsey, Josh Perry, and Austin Hall would each have 6 stops apiece for a unit that simply could not get off the field in allowing the Midshipmen to possess the ball for a total of 42:47 minutes total.  The Offense was stagnant as they would have a solid day on the ground with 233 yards total with Darrell Henderson having 212 yards on 13 attempts along with 3 scores, however, the passing game could only muster 145 yards as Brady White would go 15 for 25 for the contest along with an INT.  John Williams and Demonte Coxie would have 9 catches combined for 80 yards in the loss while Memphis would also fumble 3 times in this game (losing all 3).  The Tigers will certainly get to shore up their run defense against a team in the Panthers that struggled on the ground in their week 2 matchup this Saturday.

Memphis Tigers 's Latest Performance :

After a promising first quarter which saw the Panthers tie the Wolfpack on the road on last Saturday, the road team would not score again as NC State would exert their dominance by racking up 115 yards on the ground along with 426 total yards in the air en route to their 41-7-week 2 win.  GSU would be 4 of 13 on 3rd down conversions while having 107 yards on the ground along with 242 passing yards as Dan Ellington would pass for 194 yards on 15 for 28 passing while also rushing for a mere 30 yards on 10 attempts.  Destin Coates would also chip in 43 yards on 6 rushes and the team’s only TD in the loss while Devin Gentry and Penny Hart would combine for 8 catches for 133 yards total for the Panthers.  As stated, the defensive secondary was scorched by Ryan Finley who would end the game going 31 of 28 with a TD in the win; Nonetheless, Jaylen Jones and Jerome Smith would combine for 10 tackles along with 4 assists while Chase Middleton would have 2 tackles and 10 assists in defeat.

How Georgia State Panthers & Memphis Tigers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Panthers are 0-1 ATS while the O/U is 0-1

Tigers are 0-1 ATS while the O/U is 0-1

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Panthers will attempt to wipe off the remnants of a bad loss to the Wolfpack in week 2 in setting their eyes on a Memphis team that would collapse in the second half against Navy to suffer a heartbreaking loss last Saturday.  Of course, both will certainly be looking to take the field once again in which to get a win on Friday night in Memphis.  While the defenses for both teams will be looking to improve upon their performance, both offenses will also be focused on consistency in this matchup as it should really be a competitive matchup against teams that are looking to get over, or, at .500 early in the season while picking up some much-needed momentum.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Georgia State +23.5

My reason for the pick :

Memphis had their game against Navy in hand, however, would totally collapse late in the game, thus signaling their demise.  GSU, on the other hand, never had a chance against the Wolfpack once they got rolling last Saturday.  Nonetheless, they will once again reinforce what made them successful in the first quarter versus NC State: Ball control, effective running game, aggressive, yet, disciplined defense.  Expect them to apply this type of philosophy throughout this game as they will squeak out a much-needed, tough win against a Memphis squad that will be looking to have a much better defensive performance.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over (off)

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the over in this game in that both teams were certainly not able to stop the ground attack for their opponent last Saturday.  With that, one must believe that while both will work hard in the days leading up to this matchup to correct various issues and concerns, both Memphis and GSU will certainly be able to move the ball effectively in week 3.  Of course, this will allow for scoring opportunities early and often for two teams that will really be looking to become more consistent on both ends moving forward.
