Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Florida State Seminoles vs Syracuse Orange

The Florida State Seminoles will travel to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York, to take on the Syracuse Orange on Saturday beginning at noon for an all-important ACC showdown.  The Noles would rebound after their debacle in week 1 versus the Hokies of Virginia Tech to pick up a 36-26 home win over the Samford Bulldogs to where they would not cash in on the large spread of 31 points while there was not total for this matchup.  The Orange, on the other hand, would demolish the Wagner Seahawks on last Saturday by a 62-10 score to where they would cash in on the 45-point spread while the total was not set for this game either.  The last time these two teams would get together was on 11-4-2017 when the Seminoles would sneak out with a 27-24 victory at home to where the Orange would cover (+8) while the under was the play with the total being set at 51.5 points.

Florida State Seminoles's Latest Performance :

The Seahawks, despite scoring early in the first quarter, would not have a fighting chance against the Orange last Saturday as the Syracuse D would only allow them a total of 305 yards (58 rushing/247 passing).  Thanks to Andrew Armstrong (6 tackles/5 assists) and Kielan Whitner (4 tackles), Wagner would only be allowed to convert 5 for 18 on 3rd downs while fumbling 3 times in the contest.  The Orange would open the offense in this matchup as Eric Dungy would pass for 5 TD’s and an INT on 23 for 32 passing along with 320 yards total.  Dungy would also rush 11 times for 44 yards in the game while Jarveon Howard would add 69 yards on 11 carries.  Moe Neal would also have 9 carries for 73 yards while Don Strickland would have 2 TD’s on the ground on 9 rushes for 42 yards.  The receiving corps was paced by Raian Pierce, Taj Harris, Jamal Custis, Sean Riley, and Nykeim Johnson would each have a TD in the victory for an offense that would put up 460 yards for the game.

Syracuse Orange's Latest Performance :

Florida Sates’ defense would allow the Bulldogs 23 points in the first half to take the lead at the half, however, the Noles would score 15 points in the second to pull out the much-needed victory last Saturday.  While Samford would go only 3 of 13 in 3rd down conversions while losing a fumble along with having only 60 yards on the ground, they would rack up 475 yards passing in this game to keep things close.  Hamsah Nasirldeen (10 tackles) would lead the defensive unit while Stanford Samuels III would have 6 stops on the night.  Deondre François would have 3 TD’s for Florida State on 31 for 46 passing for 320 yards total while also rushing for a TD as well.  The Noles would have 137 yards on the ground as Cam Akers would have 14 rushes for 73 yards total while Jacques Patrick would end with 44 yards on 14 rushes.  FSU was only 4 of 14 on 3rd down conversions while fumbling twice on the day (1 lost).  Tammorion Terry would have 2 TD’s to lead the receiving corps with 2 catches for 44 yards along with Nyquan Murry having 6 catches for 63 yards and a TD in the win to even their record at 1-1 for the year.

How Florida State Seminoles & Syracuse Orange Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Syracuse is 2-0 ATS while the O/U is 2-0

FSU is 1-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-1

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

FSU has struggled early on both sides of the ball while Syracuse has been very consistent in their 2 early wins.  They will look to take advantage of the inconsistencies the the Seminoles have had to endure in getting a huge win on Saturday.  It would be important to note that the Noles have dominated this series in recent matchups.  With that being said, the Orange could indeed be getting Florida State at just the right time and place.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Syracuse Orange +3

My reason for the pick :

The Orange played the Seminoles well last year on the road.  This year, the Orange will certainly look to exact some payback against a team that has owned them in the past.  With that being said, I will back the Orange in this matchup as the Noles have not been getting the most out of their defense thus far in the season as they would be pound on the ground and in the air in their 2 outings this season.  Look for the Orange to utilize Dungy to their advantage in which to confuse FSU, thus allowing them to control the trenches and put FSU in bad situations, defensively.  Look for the Orange to roll in this contest from the start against the Noles team that has been underachievers thus far in 2018.

Totals Selection: Over 68

My reason for the prediction :

With the way the Noles have been playing on defense combined with the way in which the Orange have been able to throw the ball thus far in the season, this will be a game where both teams, particularly Syracuse, will certainly have some oppotunities to score early and often.  In other words, I will back the over in that I simply do not trust the FSU D at this point as I feel as if they will implode after allowing a couple scores to the home team on Saturday, thus allowing the score to balloon as the game progresses.
