Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Ohio Bobcats vs Virginia Cavaliers
The undefeated Ohio Bobcats will travel to Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia, for a week 3 showdown versus the Virginia Cavaliers at 3 pm EST. The Bobcats would pick up a 38-32 slim victory at home over the Howard Bison in week 1 as they would not cash in on the huge spread of 30.5 points while the over was the play with the total being set at 62 points for the game. The Cavaliers, after winning in week 1 by a 42-13 score over the Richmond Spiders, would fall on the road to the Indiana Hoosiers in week 2 by a 20-16 score. They would, however, cover the spread as underdogs (+5) while the under was the play with the total being set at 50 points. The last time these two teams met was on October 2, 1993, when the Cavaliers would get the 41-7 home win while the Bobcats would cash in on the spread as 44.5-point underdogs while there was no total set for the game. Virginia will certainly be looking to get back on track while the Bobcats will look to continue their momentum after having no live action in week 2.
Ohio Bobcats's Latest Performance :
The Ohio Bobcats would go into the half versus the Howard Bison down 22-17, yet, would outscore them 21-10 in the second half to get the hard-earned victory as they would score on the ground as well as on special teams. DL Knock would return the opening kickoff of the second half 99 yards for a score while Quinton Maxwell would score on a 1-yard touchdown run soon after that would put the Bobcats up 31-22. After Howard would score a touchdown on a 55-yard pass from Caylin Newton to Jequez Ezzard to make the score 31-29, Maxwell would score his second touchdown of the night on a 10-yard scamper to make the score 38-29, thus sealing the game. Maxwell would end the game going 17 for 25 for 233 yards and will now turn his attention to a UVA defense that allows 170 passing yards per game along with 136 yards on the ground. A.J. Collette and Malik Irons will need to bring their A game as well as it relates to the ground game to provide the Bobcats a chance in which to somehow pull off an upset in this contest while Papi White, who would rack up 154 yards total with a touchdown in week 2, will also need to increase his production as the Cavaliers are ranked 40th in the nation in pass defense.
Virginia Cavaliers's Latest Performance :
The Virginia Cavaliers would go down at the half by a 20-7 score to the Hoosiers in week 2, only to score a touchdown in the 3rd period to come to within 4 points of Indiana. Nevertheless, they would not score again as the offense, led by Peyton Ramsey, would not be able to continue critical drives as the Hoosiers were able o seal the victory. Stevie Scott was able to grind out some yards on the ground as he would end the game with 203 total yards and a touchdown while Ramsey would throw for 150 yards and 2 scores. They will be looking forward to doing battle with this Ohio squad that is ranked 130th in pass defense in allowing teams 484 yards in the air. Receiver Donavan Hale will certainly need to bring his best game in this matchup in which to get a win for the Cavaliers. On the other hand, Ohio also has had problems stopping the run thus far (161 yards per game, 68th rank) as Scott and the offensive line will also be looking to take control of the trenches early on in which to set the tone of this game. It would also be important to note that Virginia will enter this game boasting a ranking of 33 in total rush yards per game with 245 yards per outing.
How Ohio Bobcats & Virginia Cavaliers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
UVA is 1-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-1
Ohio is 0-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-0
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will certainly be a gut check game for both teams as UVA looks to get back on track after a setback on the road versus the Hoosiers last Saturday while the Bobcats will seek to gain much more consistency on each side of the ball in which to keep this game close. In all, there are not many positives that can point to Ohio winning this matchup, they will certainly be focused on stopping the Virginia running game while hoping that their offense can put some points on the board to make this game interesting.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Virginia Cavaliers -5.5
My reason for the pick :
I happen to believe that the Cavaliers will have a field day on the ground against an Ohio team that was outrushed by a MEAC team in Howard during week 1. The Cavaliers, as stated, are ranked 33rd in the nation in rushing with a tad under 250 yards per game and will certainly look to make their presence known within the trenches in this contest. Ohio, on the other hand, will find themselves not being able to get much going against a defense that is ranked in the top 50 in pass D, which happens to be their strong suit. In all, I will back Virginia and the small spread in this game as the Cavaliers will get back on track at home on Saturday.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 44
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the over in this contest simply due to the fact that the Cavaliers have proven themselves to be a run first team with Stevie Scott in the backfield. Their offensive line has done well in taking control of the trenches against opposing defenses in which to ensure that he can locate the necessary creases that could allow him to find daylight. This will be the case on Saturday as the total will surpass the 44 points set for this contest as UVA will ride the run game in which to cash in on the over.
