Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Oklahoma Sooners vs Iowa State Cyclones

A week 2 Big 12 matchup versus the 5th ranked Oklahoma Sooners and the Iowa State Cyclones will take place at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday afternoon at 12 pm EST.  The Sooners would win their second game of the season by whipping UCLA at home by a 49-21 score last Saturday as they would miss out on the spread (-31) while the over was the play with the O/U being set at 66 points for the game.  The Iowa State Cyclones would lose their first game of the season against rival Iowa by a 13-3 score as they would also not cash in on the spread +3.5 while the under was the play with totals being set at 46.5 points for the game.  The last time these two teams met was on 10-7-2017 when the Cyclones would pick up the 38-31 home win as they would cash in on the spread as 31-point underdogs while the over was the play with the total being set at 62 points.  Iowa State has covered the spread in the last 2 matchups while the over has been the play in this matchup in 5 of the last 6 meetings.

Oklahoma Sooners's Latest Performance :

Oklahoma would go into the half up 21-7 and would never look back as they would outscore the Bruins in the second half of last Saturday’s game by a 28-14 margin en route to their 2nd straight win of the season.  Kyler Murray would throw for 302 yards on 19 for 33 passing along with 3 TD’s and 1 pick.  They would take it to the UCLA defense, who would give up over 200 yards rushing to Cincy in week 1, as they would rush for 190 total yards with Kyler Murray also racking up 69 yards on 10 attempts while TJ Pledger and Marcelius Sutton would combine for 12 rushes for 78 yards total on the day.  The receiving corps was led by CeeCee Lamb (7 rec, 146 yds, TD) and Marquise Brown (4 rec, 88 yds, TD).  The OU defense would limit the Bruin offense to just 383 total yards (129 rushing/254 passing) as Kenneth Murray (5 tackles, 4 assists, sack) along with Ryan Jones (5 tackles) would step up big for the home team while Curtis Bolton would have 1.5 sacks in the game for the Sooners who would limit the Bruins to converting 5 for 15 on 3rd down while also holding them to 2.6 yards per rush in the contest.

Iowa State Cyclones's Latest Performance :

The Cyclones would only score 3 points early in the first against the Hawkeyes on last Saturday as their offense would sputter in gaining only 188 total yards (19 rushing/169 passing) with Kyle Kempt having 126 yards on 15 of 21 passing while Zeb Noland would also get some time under center as he would finish with 43 yards passing on 4 of 10 attempts.  The rushing game was atrocious for ISU as David Montgomery would have 44 yards on 17 attempts while the passing game was sparked by Hakeem Butler and Tarique Milton who would combine for 6 catches for 66 yards total.  The Cyclones would only go 4 for 14 on 3rd downs while holding the football for a total of 28:25 minutes total.  Iowa, on the other hand, would go 6 for 17 on 3rd downs while racking up 105 yards on the ground while having 166 passing yards.  The ISU defense was led by Mike Rose with 7 tackles and 4 assists while Willie Harvey would have 6 tackles along with 3 assists in the loss.  They will find that it will be much more difficult to move the ball on an OU unit that is ranked 51st overall in rush D in the nation while being 78th in the nation in passing defense.

How Oklahoma Sooners & Iowa State Cyclones Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Iowa State is 0-1 ATS while the O/U is 0-1

Oklahoma is 2-0 ATS while the O/U is 2-0

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Sooners were stellar during their first 2 home games of the season; however, they will now get into conference play against the Cyclones and will certainly look to keep things on the up and up.  The Cyclone’s offense would not be able to have answers for the Hawkeye defense last Saturday and I am sure will find that OU’s defense is much stronger by the end of this contest on Saturday.  Nonetheless, they must get more out of their QB position as well as from the running backs.  Most importantly, this cannot be done unless they are able to take control within the trenches, which will not be easy with such an aggressive and stout front in the Sooners.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Oklahoma Sooners -17.5

My reason for the pick :

The Sooners now take their show on the road to face a Cyclone team that should be very angry in losing to their in-state rival Iowa in their first contest of the season.  Of course, they have covered against the Sooners in their last 2 outings, however, OU is on a mission this year and will certainly be focused on the task at hand.  In all, I will back the Sooners and the points in this contest as OU is not only the best team, but, they have much to prove in their quest to get back in the playoff conversation at the end of the year.  Squaring off against this Iowa State team on the road will serve as a nice test on Saturday.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 55

My reason for the prediction :

I will pick the over in this contest in that I really do not see the Cyclone’s offense moving the ball much against such an experienced defense as OU’s.  Furthermore, while the Cyclones defense would not get much help from their offense against Iowa, I see the Sooners taking control of the line of scrimmage (on both sides) from the start as they will definitely be able to score some points on their opponent in week 3.  In all, the over has been the call in 5 of the last 6 meetings between these two and I expect this to continue Saturday.
