Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Florida Atlantic Owls vs Central Florida Knights

The 18th ranked Knights of Central Florida will welcome the Florida Atlantic Owls to Spectrum Stadium in Orlando, Florida, for a week four college football showdown on Friday night beginning at 7 pm EST.  The Knights would not suit up last Saturday as their matchup on the road versus North Carolina was cancelled due to weather conditions in the southeast.  Nonetheless, they will certainly look to get back into the swing of things against an Owls squad that would win their second straight outing, this time over Bethune Cookman College on last Saturday by a 49-28 score.  They would not, however, cover the spread while the over of 58.5 points was surpassed in the contest.

Florida Atlantic Owls's Latest Performance :

Bethune Cookman would pose no real challenge to the Owls of FAU last Saturday as they would score 29 points in the first quarter while cruising to a blowout victory in week three.  The Owls would rack up 559 total yards with Kerryth White Jr. (15 rushes, 100 yards) along with Devin Singletary (19 rushes, 84 yards, 5 TD’s) leading the rushing attack that would rack up 376 yards on the Wildcats.  QB Chris Robison would have 171 yards total with a TD and two picks in the game while Harrison Bryant and Jovon Durante combined for 12 catches for 154 yards and a TD in the win.  They now take their show on the road as they will be looking to establish the running game once again as they are ranked 61st in the country with 187 yards per game while the passing game has been stellar with Robison and company in averaging 282 yards per contest.  The interesting thing is that the Owls are averaging 32 points per game, yet, their defensive unit is allowing 39.3 points for the year.  Furthermore, the defensive unit is ranked at or near the bottom in total yards allowed with 452 yards per game while also giving up 214 yards on the ground for the game.

Central Florida Knights's Latest Performance :

While Central Florida would not play last week on the road versus the Tarheels last Saturday, they would get the 38-0 shutout at home versus the Bulldogs of South Carolina State University in week two.  Furthermore, for the season, the Knights offense is putting up 609 yards of offense per game, good for third in the country while also scoring 47 points per outing.  And while the are averaging a tad over 300 yards per game in the air, their rushing game happens to be their signature as they are ranked 7th in the nation with 306 yards total per outing, however, offensive lineman Parker Boudreaux is questionable with an undisclosed injury for Saturday’s game.  On the other hand, their defense has very much struggled stopping the run as they are allowing 199 yards on the ground to their opponents while their pass defense is giving up only 173 yards per game.  What is most impressive about the defense for UCF is that they are allowing team an average of 8.5 points per game in 2018, despite missing cornerback Aaron Robinson who is out indefinitely due to a neck injury.

How Florida Atlantic Owls & Central Florida Knights Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

FAU is 0-3 ATS while the O/U is 1-2

UCF is 1-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-1

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will certainly be a huge test for FAU as the Knights will come in focused and ready to take the field after a week to where they would not suit up.  With that being said, both teams will be looking to establish their respective running games as this is the cornerstone of their offenses. Nonetheless, neither team has proven that they can actually stop the run in recent outings.  They both possess dangerous passing attacks, yet, they maintain aggressive defensive secondaries that can defend the pass as well.  in all, this game will depend upon which team can rule the trenches early on, as this will allow for their offense to click early on and throughout the game.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   UCF -13.5

My reason for the pick :

Even with their blowout win over the Bulldogs in week two, Milton would throw three picks.  With that being said, I have a feeling that the Knights will get back to basics in this matchup against a team that has not been able to stop the run in 2018.  And while the Knights have struggled as well in this area, they certainly have the better talent at skill positions on defense.  With that, I will back the Knights to shut down this offense for the Owls while bleeding the clock with a punishing and powerful run game to cover the spread in this contest.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 72.5

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this matchup as the Knights will slowly exert their dominate within the trenches over a dangerous, yet, overmatched squad in Florida Atlantic.  Combine this with the fact that the Knights, despite being a bit rusty due to inactivity, will be looking to make yet another statement in week for to the pollsters, look for another dominated performance on the defensive end of the ball.  On the other hand, their offense will perform great as well versus FAU, yet, the under will be the stronger play amongst these two teams on Saturday.

Betting trends for Florida Atlantic Owls:

    • Owls are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game
    • Over is 5-1 in Owls last 6 road games.

Betting trends for Central Florida Knights:

    • Under is 10-1 in Knights last 11 games following a bye week
    • Over is 6-1 in Knights last 7 home games vs. a team with a winning road record
    • Under is 21-4-1 in Knights last 26 games in September.
