Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Washington State Cougars vs USC Trojans
The undefeated and unranked Washington State Cougars will travel to LA Memorial Coliseum to face the USC Trojans on Friday night at 10:30 pm EST for an all-important PAC 12, week four showdown. These two teams would meet in Pullman, Washington, last year as the Cougars would pick up the 30-27 victory on September 29th as he home team would cover the 4.5 points as home underdogs while the under was the play with the total being set at 59 points. In their last outing, the Trojans would fall hard on the road versus the Texas Longhorns by a 37-14 score on last Saturday as they would not cover as three-point underdogs while the total of 47 would be surpassed. On the other hand, Wazzou would pick up a 59-24 home win over the Eagles of Eastern Washington in week three as they would cover as 20-point home favorites while the total was not set for this contest. The road team is 5-1 ATS in this matchup in the last six meetings while the under is 4-0 in the last four meetings at LA Coliseum. The under has also been the play in four of the last five meetings versus USC and Washington State, overall.
Washington State Cougars's Latest Performance :
The Cougars would run into no problems versus Eastern Washington last Saturday as they would rack up a total of 565 yards for the game while going up 28-10 at the half and never looking back on their way to a home win in week three. Gardner Minshew would pass for 470 yards and two scores in the game while his favorite targets were Demontaveon Martin (13 rec, 149 yds, TD), Jamire Calvin (6 rec, 70 yds), and Dezmon Patmon (5 rec, 57 yds). They would only have 47 yards on the ground with James Williams having 19 of those, yet, with three scores on the day. And while they would not utilize Williams much in this contest, they will look to do so versus a USC defense that is allowing 209 yards per game in 2018. Furthermore, the passing game for the Cougars is putting up 421 yards in the air per game while they will find a challenge in matching up against a Trojan D that is ranked 30th in pass defense in the country with 171 yards per outing.
USC Trojans's Latest Performance :
The Trojans would come out strong versus the Longhorns last Saturday as they would go up 14-3 at the conclusion of the first period thanks to two rushing TD’s by Stephen Carr and Vavae Malepeai; However, they would be outscored 34-0 the rest of the way as Sam Ehlinger (233 yards) would throw two touchdown passes during this time that would allow Texas to come out with the huge blowout victory. Nonetheless, JT Daniels would throw for 332 yards total for the game for the Trojans while throwing an interception in the matchup while Amon St-Brown would have nine catches for 167 yards while Velus Jones Jr would have 71 yards on four catches in the loss. The Trojans would rush for only five yards in the game as they were not able to get anything going on the ground versus a Texas defense that would totally stuff the run all night. They will find it difficult in week four to rush the ball versus the Cougars as well in that they enter this contest allowing only 98 yards per game to their opponents, ranked 19th nationally. On the other hand, Daniels and the passing game is ranked 46th in the country with 274 yards passing per game and will be matched up versus a Wazzou D that is 9th ranked while allowing 132 yards per game. This game will be a battle of wills as the Trojans will certainly look to get something going on the run to allow it to compliment their dangerous passing attack, however, the Cougars are looking to make a statement this weekend as well and will certainly be looking to take advantage of their 117th ranked rushing attack while pressuring Daniels in the pocket.
How Washington State Cougars & USC Trojans Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
USC is 0-3 ATS while the O/U is 2-1
WSU is 3-0 ATS while the O/U is 2-1
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Washington State Cougars are averaging 44 points per game thus far in the season while USC is allowing only 25 points to their opponents. It will be interesting to see how each team will approach this matchup in that the Trojans are soft in the run and while the passing game has been the saving grace for WSU, they should really attempt to make more of an effort to establish themselves on the ground on Saturday judging by past results for the USC run defense. In all, much will be riding on this matchup in that it will be the first Pac 12 contest of the year for the Cougars, while the Trojans certainly would not want to go 0-2 in the conference this early in the season.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Washington State +3.5
My reason for the pick :
Cannot figure out why the Trojans are favored in this matchup, however, I will gladly take the undefeated Cougars with the plus money on the road versus USC this Saturday night as I feel as though they will certainly have much to prove. Despite being blown out for the second week straight, the Trojans remain in the top 25 while the Cougars have not cracked the top rankings yet. It is for this reason that they will look to obtain a signature win in week four while using this momentum to be a catalyst for a winning season in the conference. Look out for the Cougars in 2018!
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 53
My reason for the prediction :
Wazzou will indeed score some points in this contest versus USC, however, the home team will also find ways to put some scores up as well. With that being said, I will back the over of 53 in that the Cougars are averaging close to 40 points per outing alone. And while the Trojan defense will be a great test for the undefeated Cougars, they will overpower what I feel is an over-hyped Trojan team while dominating this game in the trenches throughout.
