Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Michigan State Spartans vs Indiana Hoosiers
The 23rd ranked Michigan State Spartan will invade Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana, on Saturday night at 7:30 pm EST for a week four college football Big Ten showdown. The Spartans are coming off a 16-13 road loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils last Saturday as they would not cover the 4.5 points as favorites while the under was the play with the total being set at 54 points. The Hoosiers would get the 38-10 home win versus Ball state in week three while covering as 15-point favorites while the under of 61.5 was not surpassed. Both teams would win outright in their last two meetings against each other while the home team has cashed in on the spread in six of the last seven meetings. Furthermore, the over has been the play in eight of the last 10 meetings while it has also been the result in four of the last five meetings in Bloomington.
Michigan State Spartans's Latest Performance :
Michigan State would allow 380 yards to the Sun Devils on the road last weekend as they would lose their first game of the year in a 16-13 setback in week three as Manny Wilkins would throw a touchdown pass in the fourth for ASU along with a Brandon Ruiz game winning 28-yard field goal to seal the victory for the home team. And while Brain Lewerke would pass for 312 yards total with a TD along with an INT, the Spartans could only post one score in the game. They would rush for 63 yards total as Conner Heyward would have five rushes for 22 yards while the receiving corps was led by Cody White (9 rec, 113 yds, TD), Felton Davis III (5 rec, 64 yds), and Darrell Stewart Jr (5 rec, 58 yds). MSU will look to utilize its 32nd ranked passing attack this Saturday versus an Indiana D that is allowing only 135 yards per game, good for 10th in the country while also better establishing their running game that is only ranked 115th in the nation, as Indiana is most vulnerable in their rush defense in giving up 187 yards per outing.
Indiana Hoosiers's Latest Performance :
Indiana would dispose of the Ball State Cardinals easily at home in week three as they would go up 24-3 at the half while outscoring the road team 14-7 in the second half en route to the victory, their third straight. The rushing attack was unstoppable as it would put up 225 total yards as Stevie Scott would rush for 114 yards on 18 carries along with two scores while Peyton Ramsey and Ronnie Walker Jr would combine for 15 rushes along with 85 total yards for the Hoosiers. Ramsey would also pass for 173 yards in the win while Luke Timian would catch five passes for 56 yards to lead the receiving corps in the victory. With a rushing attack ranked 29th in the country, Indiana looks to unleash their ground attack versus a Spartan defense that is ranked first in the nation in allowing only 35 yards per game on the ground to its opponents. On the other hand, the Hoosiers are putting up a tad over 200 yards per game in the air while the Spartans are very susceptible to giving up big yards in this area in ranking 126th with 350 yards per game. Furthermore, with Tyriq Thompson and Jacub Panasik being questionable for the defensive line and linebacking corps for Michigan state for this week’s matchup, IU may find tons of success in both areas of their offensive game.
How Michigan State Spartans & Indiana Hoosiers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Indiana is 1-2 ATS while the O/U is 1-2
MSU is 0-2 ATS while the O/U is 1-1
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
MSU has not fared well as the road team in this matchup, however, they will be looking to get back onto the field after their loss out west in week three. With that being said, the Hoosiers will also be looking to take the field once again in that they have managed to continuously rack up huge amounts of confidence in preparation for the Big Ten schedule. In other words, this will be an important game for both squads as one will need to atone for their terrible loss in picking up their first conference win while the other will be looking to maintain their momentum in 2018.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Indiana Hoosiers +4.5
My reason for the pick :
I will gladly pick the Hoosiers with the points in this matchup as they have been much more consistent on both sides of the ball thus far in the season while the home team has certainly been the dominant one as it relates to the spread in recent meetings between the two squads. In all, look for the Hoosiers to not have a decent night on the ground, but, they will utilize their playmakers in the pass game in which to get something going early versus MSU. In all, the Spartans are thin in the defensive secondary and may be without critical pieces on the defensive front as well. With that being said, I will back the home team in this Big Ten showdown on Saturday.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 47.5
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the under in this contest in that Indiana’s offense may be able to move the ball at some point versus their opponent on Saturday, the run defense for the Spartans will remain to be a tough nut to crack. Nonetheless, they will certainly involve their passing attack in the game plan versus a defensive secondary that will definitely be looking to atone for their lackluster performance last week. On the other hand, the defense for the home team will be challenged by the MSU offense and Lewerke throughout, yet, the Spartan offense will not find much success versus the 10th ranked pass defense in the country. In all, the under will be the strong play in this matchup.
