Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Boston College Eagles vs Purdue Boilermakers

The first ever meeting versus the Purdue Boilermakers and the Boston College Eagles will take place at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana, beginning at noon on Saturday.  The Eagles are fresh off a 41-34 road win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on last Thursday as they would cover the 6.5 spread as favorites while the over was the play with the total being set at 58.5 points for the game while the Boilermakers would lose their third straight game in falling to the Missouri Tigers on last Saturday by a 40-37 score.  They would, however, cover the spread as five-point home underdogs while the over was also the play in this matchup as the total was set at 68 points for the game, overall.

Boston College Eagles's Latest Performance :

The Eagles would outscore the Demon Deacons 20-13 after a 21-21 tie at the half to pick up a win in week three thanks to three touchdown passes from QB Anthony Brown (304 yards, 5 TD’s) as he would rely on Greg Dortch (9 rec, 93 yds) and Sage Suratt (3 rec, 50 yds, TD) throughout the game.  The running game would come up big for the road team as it would rack up 298 total yards with Matt Colburn (23 rushes, 117 yds, TD) and Cade Carney (18 rushes, 116 yds) leading the charge.  They will be met with some resistance versus Purdue as their defense will allow opponents only 156 yards on the ground per outing this year while being less than stellar in pass defense as they are allowing 319 yards total per outing.  In all, the Eagles may indeed find some success versus the Boilermakers which allow 30 points per game, overall.  Cornerback Semion Smiley along with defensive tackle Keiwan Jones are both questionable for the Saturday’s matchup for the Boilermaker defense.

Purdue Boilermakers's Latest Performance :

In an offensive shootout, Missouri would go up 27-24 at the half on Purdue as QB David Blough (572 yards, 3 TD’s, INT) would throw two touchdowns and run for a score to keep the home team in the game while also throwing for another touchdown in the second half, yet, the Boilermakers would fall at home on last Saturday to the Tigers by three points on a Tucker McCann field goal with :00 seconds left in the game.  Despite Rondale Moore (11 rec, 137 yds, TD) and Brycen Hopkins (5 rec, 136, TD), and Isaac Ziko (4 rec, 100 yds) have great games at the receiving end, they were less than stellar in the run game as they would only get 63 yards total as DJ Knox would only collect 23 yards on seven rushes in the loss.  As heartbreaking as the loss would be, they must now move on to face a defense for BC that has been horrible in rush defense in allowing 187 yards while only giving up 176 yards in the air in 2018.  Of course, the Purdue run game has been successful in that they are ranked 56th in the nation in averaging 195 yards per outing while their passing game is much more dangerous in putting up 326 yards per game.  Furthermore, for the year, the Purdue offense is averaging 521 yards per outing while the Eagles allowing only 363 yards to their opponents.

How Boston College Eagles & Purdue Boilermakers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Purdue is 1-2 ATS while the O/U is 2-1

Boston College is 3-0 ATS while the O/U is 3-0

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be an interesting matchup in that Purdue will be looking to get the bad taste out of their mouths from a terrible and potentially deflating loss at home while the Eagles look to build momentum after a great conference win versus Wake Forest the week prior.  Purdue will certainly have to shore up their pass defense as the Eagles will certainly look to pass the ball in this matchup while also utilize their 8th ranked rushing attack on a Boilermaker defense that ranks middle of the road in stopping the run.  In all, look for this to be a battle throughout as both teams will look to obtain an all-important victory.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Boston College Eagles +6.5

My reason for the pick :

While I would expect Purdue to come out with a vengeance at home after a lackluster defense effort versus Mizzou in their last time out, I will also expect for the Eagles to continue their dominance in the trenches as their running game will certainly be the tip of the spear in keeping this game close.  Of course, the Boilermaker defense will ensure that they are not as successful as they were in the week prior in this area, nonetheless, the passing game for BC should also have a decent night, thus allowing them to cover in this matchup on Saturday.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 68

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the over in this contest as the Eagles offense is clicking on all cylinders thus far in the season.  On the other hand, the Purdue offense has also been racking up the yardage on their opponents, however, their defense has been awful.  With this being the case, I expect both teams to put some points on the board, thus allowing the total to balloon over the set total of 68 points.  Again, Blough and company along with Brown and Colburn will dominate in this game as I see this as an up and down contest to where the last team with the ball may have the best chance at winning.
