Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Kansas State Wildcats vs West Virginia Mountaineers

The Kansas State Wildcats will travel to Mountaineers Field at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown, West Virginia, on Saturday for a Big 12 showdown at 3:30 pm EST.  These two teams would last meet on November 11, 2017 as the Mountaineers would get the 28-23 road win as they would cover the three points as road favorites while the under was the play with the total being set at 58 points for the game.  The Wildcats are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings amongst these teams while the under is 6-0 in the last six meetings.  In their last outing, the Mountaineers would get the 52-17 home win over the Youngstown State Penguins as they would cover the spread as 33 points favorites while the over was the play with the total being set at 63.5 points for the game.  The Wildcats would pick up a 41-17 home win versus the San Antonio Road Runners last Saturday as they would cover the 20.5 points as home favorites while the total of 46.5 points was surpassed.

Kansas State Wildcats's Latest Performance :

The Kansas State Wildcats would also have an easy time putting away the Road Runners of Texas San Antonio as they would jump out to a 27-7 halftime lead while outscoring them 14-10 in the final half en route to the blowout victory.  Skylar Thompson would have 213 passing yards with two touchdown passes with Isiah Zuber having seven catches for 144 yards along with two scores in the matchup while Zack Reuter and Dalton Schoen would combine for three catches for 87 total yards and one touchdown in the win.  Thompson would also rush for 66 yards for the Wildcats while Alex Barnes would have 50 yards on 13 rushes.  The rushing game happens to be the bread and butter for this Wildcat offense as they are ranked 69th in the nation with 178 yards per game.  However, WVU’s defense is stout in stopping the run as they are ranked 54th in the country in allowing 133 yards per game to their opponents.  The Mountaineers are allowing only 16 points per game while the Wildcats are averaging 26 points per outing.

West Virginia Mountaineers's Latest Performance :

The Mountaineers would rush for 289 yards with Leddie Brown (15 rushes, 115 yards, TD), Martell Pettaway (12 rushes, 77 yards), and Kennedy McCoy (11 rushes, 76 yards, TD) lead the attack.  Will Grier will throw for 332 yards for the game along with four touchdown passes and an INT in the win while Marcus Simms (8 rec, 119 yds) and Gary Jennings Jr (6 rec, 97 yds, 3TD’s) providing a spark for the passing game in the victory.  The Mountaineers would outscore the Penguins 30-10 in the second half while putting up a total of 625 yards for the game to bring their per game average to 586 total per game, good for 9th in the country.  The Wildcats are allowing 391 total yards per game to their opponents as they are ranked 46th in pass defense along with giving up 201 yards on the ground per outing.  While West Virginia ranks within the top 50 in both offensive categories with 204 yards on the ground per game, their strength is with Grier and company who are putting up 383 yards per game for fifth in the country.  Unfortunately, defensive back Mike McCoy is questionable for Saturday’s game due to an undisclosed injury.

How Kansas State Wildcats & West Virginia Mountaineers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Kansas State is 1-2 ATS while the O/U is 1-2

West Virginia is 2-0 ATS while the O/U is 1-1

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

I expect this to be a close game for much of the game, however, the Mountaineers are a dangerous offense.  In other words, the Wildcats will do all they can to keep this game competitive, however, they will need to stay true to their run game throughout the matchup to complement its passing attack.  The Mountaineer defense, on the other hand, will attempt to control the trenches early to take the running game out of the equation, thus allowing the defense to tee off on Thompson.  Look for a great matchup amongst these two teams as they both seek to obtain a much-needed win to begin a tough Big 12 conference schedule.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   West Virginia -16

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Mountaineers at home with the points in this matchup as they will, over time, take control of this game by dominating in the trenches while using their offensive attack to totally blow this game open at some point.  Grier and company, as stated, can be very dangerous to a defense as they have shown this year.  With that being said, while the Wildcats will be a tough test for WVU, they will be no match in the end for an offense as efficient as the Mountaineers.

Totals Selection: Pick:   Over 60.5

My reason for the prediction :

I will also back the over in this contest as I believe the Mountaineers will have their way with the visitors on offense as they have numerous playmakers on that side of the ball that can cause matchup problems for the opponent.  In all, expect the home team to get into a steady grove over time as they will pull away late in this game while giving up some points as well to a Wildcat team that will remain competitive until the end.
