Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Michigan Wolverines

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will travel to Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to take on the 21st ranked Michigan Wolverines in week four college football action beginning at noon on Saturday.  The last time these two teams would meet, the Wolverines would fall at home by a 17-13 score as the Huskers would cover the 5.5 points as road underdogs.  In their week three outing, the Wolverines would win their second straight game as they would get the 45-20 home win over SMU as they would not cover as 37 point home favorites while the over was the play with the total being set at 54.5 points.  The Cornhuskers would drop yet another game as Troy would beat them at home by a 24-19 score last Saturday as Nebraska would not cover the 13 points as home favorites while the total of 55 points was not surpassed.

Nebraska Cornhuskers 's Latest Performance :

Nebraska would suffer a setback at home versus a Troy team that would jump out to a 17-7 lead at halftime and despite the home team outscoring the visitors 12-7 after the half, would suffer the huge loss last Saturday.  The Trojans would have 147 yards on the ground for the game while the Cornhuskers would have four fumbles in the contest.  Their offense for Nebraska would rack up 364 total yards of offense with the rushing game having 187 yards in the game with Maurice Washington (14 rushes, 92 yards) and Greg Bell (14 rushes, 64 yards) lead the way in the loss.  The receiving corps was led by Stanley Morgan Jr and JD Speilman who would combine for 11 catches for 109 yards total.  QB Andrew Bunch would throw for 177 yards, two TD’s along with two interceptions in defeat for Nebraska as they would hold the ball for 32:54 minutes total.  Their rushing attack has held their own versus opponents this year in averaging 258 yards per game, however, they will find it much harder to run on a Wolverine defense that is allowing only 121 yards rushing to their opponents this year.  In fact, Michigan is allowing only 277 total yards of offense to the competition in 2018, overall.  Finally, the Cornhuskers have had their problems with offensive efficiency as they are ranked 43rd in the nation in total yards per game with 465 yards, however, is only averaging 24 points per game while the Wolverines are 11th in the country in total yards allowed with 276 for the season.

Michigan Wolverines's Latest Performance :

The Wolverines would make light work of Southern Methodist last Saturday as they would jump out to a 21-7 halftime lead thanks to a touchdown run by Ben Mason, a Donovan Peoples-Jones touchdown pass, along with a Josh Metellus 73-yard interception return to end the half.  In all, Michigan would go on the outscore the Mustangs 24-13 in the second half en route to the victory.  Shea Patterson would throw for 237 yards, three TD’s along with an interception in the win while Chris Evans (18 rushes, 85 yards) and Tru Wilson (11 rushes, 53 yards, TD) would pace the rushing attack for the Wolverines.  Zack Gentry  (4 rec, 95 yds) and Peoples-Jones (4 rec, 90 yds, 3TD’s) would lead the passing attack in the win as well.  While the Wolverines average 210 yards per game in their passing game, their strength is in the rushing attack as they average 188 yards per game while ranking 60th in the country.  They are also averaging 37 points per game while putting up 397 total yards per outing in 2018.  They will look to utilize their rushing game on a Nebraska defense that is allowing only 94 yards rushing per outing while giving up 231 yards per game in the air to their opponents.  Linebacker Breon Dixon along with defensive back Bradley Bunner are questionable for the Nebraska defense while running back Chris Evans is questionable with a leg injury for the Wolverines.

How Nebraska Cornhuskers & Michigan Wolverines Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Michigan is 1-2 ATS while the O/U is 1-2

Nebraska is 0-2 ATS while the O/U is 0-2

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Michigan would love to take out some revenge over an inconsistent Cornhusker team in 2018 after a heartbreaker in last year’s battle in Lincoln.  They will look to control the trenches on a defense that is stout in the run game, yet, is known to give up yards in the defensive secondary.  And while the Wolverines are less effective in their passing attack this year, Patterson must be able to perform similar to his last outing to give his team a chance to win.  Nebraska will look to get back on track in this Big Ten matchup by gaining control of the trenches in which to utilize its rushing attack, however, this will not be easy as Michigan is ranked in the top 30’s in both defensive categories.  In all, look for an interesting and competitive matchup amongst these two hungry teams.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Nebraska Cornhuskers +17

My reason for the pick :

With a positive start to the Big Ten season on the line, expect both teams to come in focused on taking control of the line of scrimmage early in this matchup.  And while Nebraska has struggled on offense thus far, I really see them performing well in Ann Arbor on Saturday.  It would be important to note that the Huskers have been competitive in each game this season, however, their offense has not come through at various critical points during the game, thus spelling their demise.  In all, look for them to step up this weekend as they will keep this close and cover the huge spread on the road versus a Michigan team also seeking more consistency on the offensive end against more talented competition.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 50

My reason for the prediction :

I expect this game to remain under 50 points as you have two defenses that have been solid on the defensive end while their offenses have not performed as well thus far in the season.  Each will be looking to exert themselves in the run game in which to set the tone for this game early.  And while I see both teams taking some shots down the field at various points in the game, look for both to stick to the rushing attack throughout the matchup as this serves as the strength for both squads.  In all, I will back the under in what will be a hard-hitting and competitive Big Ten conference matchup from two teams looking to begin play with a win.
