Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Pittsburgh Panthers vs North Carolina Tarheels

The Pitt Panthers will travel to Keenan Memorial stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for a week four ACC showdown against the North Carolina Tarheels on Saturday afternoon beginning at 12:20 pm EST.  These two teams would meet last year on November 9th as the Heels would get the 34-31 road win as they would cover the spread as 9.5-point underdogs.  The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings amongst these two teams, while the Panthers are 1-4 ATS in last five meets, overall.  The Panthers would pick up the 25-19 home win over the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets last Saturday as they would cover the three point spread as home underdogs while the total of 54 was not surpassed while the Tarheels would not suit up in week three as their matchup at home versus the Knights of Central Florida was cancelled due to weather conditions.  The over has been the play in four of the last five meetings overall in this matchup.

Pittsburgh Panthers 's Latest Performance :

The Panthers would get a huge ACC win over the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets on last Saturday as they would go up 21-0 at the half and despite being outscored 19-3 in the second, was able to pull out a slim home victory.  For the Panthers, Kenny Pickett would have 197 yards on the day along with an interception while Quadree Ollison (17 rushes, 91 yards, 2 TD’s) and Darren Hall (7 rushes, 29 yards, TD) would lead the rushing attack for Pitt in the win while the receiving corps was paced by Taysir Mack (4 rec, 95 yds) and Rafael Araujo-Lopez (6 rec, 45 yds).  They will take their 44th ranked rushing attack on the road to face a UNC defense that gives up 190 yards on the ground (97th) while its passing game, averaging only 140 yards per outing, will face off against a Tarheel defense that allows 205 yards in the air.  Cornerbacks Tre Shaw and Greg Ross will be questionable for Saturday’s contest for the Heels while safety Miles Dorn (questionable-leg) and defensive tackle Aaron Crawford (questionable-knee) will be a game time decision for a defense that allows 32.5 points per contest.

North Carolina Tarheels 's Latest Performance :

In their week two outing, UNC would be dominated by the Pirates of ECU as they would outscore them 20-0 in the second half after only being up by a 21-19 score at the half en route to the home victory.  Nathan Elliot, however, would have 219 yards in the air for the Tarheels while Antonio Williams would rack up 96 yards on six rushes while Jordon Brown would have 59 yards on 13 rushes along with a TD in the game.  The receiving corps was led by Anthony Ratliff Williams with four receptions for 84 yards total in the loss.  While UNC might find it difficult to get Ratliff Williams going in the passing game this week as the Pitt defense is allowing just 169 yards passing to their opponents (27th in the nation), they may indeed find success on the ground for their 80th rank rushing attack against a defense that is allowing 197 yards on the ground.  The good news is that Jonah Melton will come back from suspension to add to the rushing attack on Saturday.

How Pittsburgh Panthers & North Carolina Tarheels Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

UNC is 0-1-1 ATS while the O/U 1-1

Pitt is 1-2 ATS while the O/U is 1-2

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

One can expect both running games to be the center of attention in this ACC battle on Saturday as both defenses have been susceptible to giving up yardage on the ground while both offenses are ranked in the top 80 in rushing offenses.  And while their passing games have struggled, Pitt will have a slight edge as UNC’s defense is allowing a tad over 200 yards passing per game to their opponents in 2018.  It will be interesting to see if UNC can somehow turn the tide on their season versus a Pitt team that gained an enormous amount of confidence in pulling out a huge win over the Jackets while looking for their second ACC win in as many weeks.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  UNC Tarheels +3.5

My reason for the pick :

While the Panthers may indeed pick up the win on the road on Saturday, I will pick UNC to keep this game close due to the return of one of their offensive lineman for Saturday’s matchup.  Again, the rushing attack for UNC has held the team afloat thus far in the season and I expect it to keep the home team in the game in this game as well.  Of course, the Heels will need to limit the big play in the passing game for Pitt, yet, I will back the home team to be motivated to return to the field after not suiting up last week versus UCF and have a much more productive outing on Saturday.

Totals Selection: Under 48.5

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this contest in that both teams will be looking to eat some clock while utilizing their runs games in which to score points in this contest.  As stated, the rushing attack is the staple of both these teams as they will look to establish themselves in the trenches to gain an edge from the beginning.  In all, the pass game will be critical, nonetheless, statistics suggest that there will not be very many opportunities to gain big plays in the defensive secondary.  With that being said, this will certainly be a grinding game to where the team that rules the trenches will indeed pick up the victory while the total will remain below the set mark for the matchup, altogether.

Betting trends for Pittsburgh Panthers :

    • Under is 4-0 in Panthers last 4 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.
    • Over is 3-0-1 in Panthers last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game
    • Under is 6-0 in Panthers last 6 road games.

Betting trends for North Carolina Tarheels :

    • Tar Heels are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games in September
    • Over is 5-0 in Tar Heels last 5 games following a bye week
    • Tar Heels are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a bye week.
