Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Stanford Cardinal vs Oregon Ducks

The 7th Ranked Stanford Cardinal will travel to Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon, to battle the 19th Ranked Oregon Ducks in week four Pac 12 college football action beginning at 8 pm EST.  In the last four meetings amongst these teams, these teams have won two games each with each covering the spread in two of the four matchups with the over being the play in three of the last four games and in 10 of the last 13 games, overall.  In week three, Stanford would pick up the 30-10 win over California San Diego as they would not cover the 31 point spread as home underdogs while the under was the play with the total being set at 66.5 points for the contest while the Ducks would get the 35-22 home win over san Jose State as they would also not cover the 42.5 points as home favorites yet, the under would also be the result with the total being set at 70.5 points for the matchup.

Stanford Cardinal's Latest Performance :

Stanford would beat up on California Davis at home in week three as they would be held scoreless in the first quarter, yet, would go in at the half with a 17-3 lead en route to a 30-10 blowout thanks to KJ Costello throwing for 214 yards, two TD’s along with two INT’s in the win.  Treveor Speights and Cameron Scarlett would combine for 20 rushes for 117 yards total along with a TD for the Cardinal in the win while Kaden Smith would have six catches for 68 yards to lead the receiving corps for an offense that would rack up only 351 yards on the night.  They now take their pass oriented offense to Eugene in which to challenge a pass defense that is allowing 226 yards per game, good for 78th in the nation.  They have been horrible in the rushing game thus far in averaging 115 yards per game and will be going up against an Oregon team that has been stingy in this area in giving up only 83 yards per game.  Furthermore, the Cardinal will need to up their production as the Ducks are only allowing opponents 20 points per game on 309 yards per outing while Stanford is ranked 103rd in the nation in total yards.

Oregon Ducks's Latest Performance :

Oregon would not have many problems disposing of San Jose State in week three as they would go up 20-6 at the half thanks to two touchdown passes from Justin Herbert (309 yards, 3 TD’s, 2 INT’s).   Herbert would throw his final TD of the game in the third quarter as it was a 22-yard strike to Johnny Johnson III (3 rec, 70 yds, TD) to seal the deal for the Ducks as they would rack up 443 yards total for the game.  Jacob Breeland and CJ Verdell would combine for eight catches for 177 yards and a TD in the win while Verdell would also have 42 yards rushing in the game on 15 attempts.  Stanford is ranked in the top 50 in pass and rush defense while the Ducks are ranked in the top 40 in pass and rush yards per game while also averaging 51.7 points per game.  Stanford, on the other hand, is allowing 7.7 points per game on 301 yards per game, good for 23rd in the country.  Linebackers Jordan Perez and Curtis Robinson will be questionable for Saturday’s matchup while safety Brandon Simmons is also questionable with an undisclosed injury.  On the other hand, offensive lineman Penei Sewell and receiver Brendon Schooler will be questionable for Oregon with ankle and concussion injuries.

How Stanford Cardinal & Oregon Ducks Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Stanford is 2-1 ATS while the O/U is 0-3

Oregon is 0-3 ATS while the O/U is 1-2

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Of course, this will be an important matchup for both teams as the Pac 12 seems to be wide open at this point.  Stanford will be looking to develop some semblance of a running game in which to take some pressure off Costello while the Ducks will be looking to take control of the line of scrimmage to ultimately get to the QB in hopes of getting the Cardinal offense off the field.  In all, the intensity will certainly be high for this matchup, however, I expect the defenses to take center stage in this showdown out west on Saturday.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Oregon Ducks +2

My reason for the pick :

One of the staples of the Stanford Cardinal offense in the past has been a tough, physical running game; However, this certainly has not been the case in 2018 as their rushing attack has struggled so far this season.  On the other hand, the Ducks have been stout up front and are definitely looking to stop the run in this matchup, thus making the Cardinal a one-dimensional team.  Of course, the visitors have been much better in the passing game in 2018, nonetheless, I see the Ducks stepping up the pressure in this matchup in which to get to Costello early and often to create turnovers.  With that being said, I will back the Ducks at home along with the plus money as I believe they are simply the better team at his point with a slightly better defense.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 56

My reason for the prediction :

While I feel that the Ducks will indeed play well in this contest, the Cardinal will hold things together on defense for much of the game as well.  In other words, they will score some points while keeping things tight: However, I expect this game to be one that is low scoring to where the game will be won with an effective ground game.  Keep in mind that the Cardinal is allowing less than 10 points a game to their opponents.  With that being said, I will back the under as I see the total being well under 56 points at the game’s conclusion.

Betting trends for Stanford Cardinal:

    • Under is 9-1 in Cardinal last 10 games following a straight up win
    • Cardinal are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall
    • Cardinal are 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record

Betting trends for Oregon Ducks:

    • Ducks are 0-9 ATS in their last 9 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game
    • Ducks are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games
    • Ducks are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games on fieldturf.
