Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

UConn Huskies vs Syracuse Orange

The Huskies of UConn will travel to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York, to battle the Orange on Saturday afternoon beginning at 4 pm EST in week four college football action.  The last time these two teams would meet would be on September 24, 2016 as the Orange would pick up the 31-24 win on the road while covering the spread as 2.5 road dogs with the under being the play with the total being set at 58 points for the game.  The Huskies would pick up their first win of the season with a 56-49 home win versus the Rams of Rhode Island on last Saturday as they would not cover the 10-point spread as home favorites with the over being the play as the total was set at 61.5 points for the game.  The Orange would pick up a huge victory over their ACC opponent in FSU by a 30-7 score as they would cover as 3.5 home underdogs while the under was the play with the total being 69 points for the game.  The favorite is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings while the home team is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings versus these two squads.  Finally, the home team is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings amongst these two squads.

UConn Huskies's Latest Performance :

The Huskies would go back and forth with Rhode Island in their last outing as they would go up 42-28 at the half with David Pindell (308 yards, 4 TD’s, INT) throwing three touchdown passes while rushing for a TD.  He would continue where he left off in the second half as he would rush for his second touchdown of the game while Kevin Mensah (25 rushes, 144 yards, 2 TD’s) would also rush for his second TD of the day to make the score 56-49 to seal the victory.  The rushing game would rack up 265 yards in the matchup with Mensah leading the way, however, Pindell would also rush 26 times for 137 yards as well.  Heron Maurissau would have a 74-yard TD catch in the game while Tyler Davis and Hergy Mayala would combine for 8 receptions for 95 yards in the win for UConn.  While the Huskies may indeed find some success versus an Orange team that is allowing 268 yards in the air versus their opponents in 2018, they will certainly find it more difficult to run the ball as the Orange is giving up only 115 yards on the ground this year, ranking them 32nd in the country.  The Huskies, nonetheless, are averaging 27 points per game, however, are only allowing 19.7 points to their opponents as defensive end Jake Pickard and linebacker Lakiem Williams are both questionable for Saturday’s matchup.

Syracuse Orange 's Latest Performance :

The Orange would get yet another quality win in week three versus ACC opponents Florida State as they would go in at the half  only ahead 6-0, however, would outscore the visitors 24-7 in the second half as Tommy Devito (144 yards, TD) would pass and run for a TD along with Dontae Strickland scampering for a 13 yard rush TD to put the game out or reach for the Noles while allowing the Orange to remain unbeaten for the season.  Eric Dungy would only pass for 75 yards on 11 for 15 passing, however, Jamal Custis (4 rec, 56 yds) and Ravian Pierce (3 rec, 34 yds, TD) would step up for the receiving corps in the win.  Moe Neal (19 rushes, 75 yds) would lead the rushing attack that would garner 22 yards on the ground versus an FSU defense while Jarveon Howard (5 rushes, 55 yds) would also lead the rushing charge.  The running game for the Orange is averaging 257 yards per outing in 2018, ranking them 20th in the nation while they will be challenging a UConn defense that simply cannot stop the run in allowing 298 yards per game while they have been equally as inefficient in stopping the pass in allowing 375 yards to their opponents this year.  In all, Syracuse, which averaging 49 points per game, will be facing a defense that is giving up a total of 673 yards per game and 56 points per game overall.  Eric Dungy is questionable for the matchup on Saturday with an eye injury, yet, is slated to start.

How UConn Huskies & Syracuse Orange Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Syracuse is 3-0 ATS while the O/U is 1-2

UConn is 0-3 ATS while the O/U is 3-0

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be an uneven matchup as the Orange, despite possibly not having Dungy in the lineup, will exert themselves in the trenches versus UConn in which to utilize their punishing running game and to get a win.  and while the Huskies may indeed have some success in the passing game in this contest, as stated, it will be difficult to keep up this Syracuse team on Saturday in which to get a win.  In all, look for this game to be close early on while the Orange will slowly take control within this matchup while running away with the contest soon after.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Syracuse Orange -27.5

My reason for the pick :

UConn is terrible on defense this year and the Orange will exploit them on Saturday, even without Dungy being in the lineup.  In other words, this will be yet another blowout for an Orange team that continues to play well this season.  UConn will be undermanned and overmatched in this contest as I will certainly back the points with the home team in week four.  Look for them to rack up some yardage on the ground while also working on that porous secondary for the visitors as well.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 76

My reason for the prediction :

While the Orange will allow some scores to the Huskies early in this matchup, I do not expect many points from the Huskies as the game wears on.  On the other hand, with the Huskies allowing so many yards (and points) to their opponents, I certainly see the Orange lighting up the scoreboard, however, only to cover the spread.  Again, look for this to be a one-sided matchup to where the Orange will run away with the victory, yet, the total of 76 will not be surpassed.
