Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Stanford Cardinal vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The 7th ranked Stanford Cardinal will travel to Notre Dame Stadium to face the 8th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday night at 7:30 pm EST.  Their last meeting was on November 25, 2017 where the Cardinal would get the 38-20 home win despite the Irish putting up 261 yards on the ground compared to 176 yards for Stanford.  The home team would cover the spread as three-point home dogs while the under was the play with the total being set at 58.5 points for the game.  In their last outing, the Cardinal would pick up the 38-31 road win over the Oregon Ducks as they covered the spread as three point favorites while the over was the play with the total being set at 59 points.  The Fighting Irish got the 56-27 road win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons last Saturday as they would also cover the spread as six point road favorites while the over was the play with the total being set at 60 points for the game.  The underdogs are 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings while the under has been the result in seven of the last eight meetings versus these two teams.  Also, the under has been the play in four straight games in South Bend amongst these two squads.

Stanford Cardinal 's Latest Performance :

On the other hand, the Cardinal would win in their last outing due to their ability to throw the football as their 47th ranked passing attack was led by KJ Costello he passed for 327 yards along with three touchdown passes while JJ Arcega-Whiteside along with Kaden Smith combined for 10 catches for 179 yards with Arcega-Whiteside having two scores in the game.  Bryce Love led a struggling rushing attack with 89 yards along with a touchdown in the win.  Stanford would rally after being down by 10 points in the fourth with a Costello touchdown pass the Whiteside along with a field goal from Jet Toner to force the OT period.  Costello came through one again as he threw a strike to Colby Parkinson to seal the victory for Stanford.  Costello and the passing game are averaging 264 yards per outing while Notre Dame is allowing on 224 yards per game thus far in the season.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish's Latest Performance :

Notre Dame would pick up their win over Wake Forest in dominant fashion as they would collect 566 total yards in the game along with 241 yards on the ground with Jafar Armstrong having 98 yards on eight rushes along with two TD’s while Ian Book had 43 yards and three scores for the game.  Book also threw for 325 yards and two passing touchdowns in the win while Michael Young had 66 yards for the Fighting Irish.  The defense, which allows 145 yards on the ground, was pounded by the Demon Deacons as they accumulated 259 yards for the game.  Stanford will certainly be looking to exploit this area as their rushing attack has struggled thus far in the season in averaging 104 yards per contest.

How Stanford Cardinal & Notre Dame Fighting Irish Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Notre Dame is 2-2 ATS while the O/U is 1-3

Stanford is 3-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-3

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The matchups amongst these squads are always interesting as the Irish will look to build from their momentum while attempting to stop a dangerous passing attack for the Cardinal on Saturday.  On the other hand, Stanford gained some momentum last week as well as they were able to pull out a huge win over the Ducks while also obtaining an all-important Pac 12 win.  In all, both teams will be looking to compete as both are ranked in the top 10 while also looking to dominate in the trenches in which to ensure that they are able to move forward with their undefeated record to increase their position in the rankings as the year progresses.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Stanford Cardinal -5.5

My reason for the pick :

While 5.5 points may be a bit much for a Stanford team that is only averaging 104 rush yards per game, the Cardinal are averaging 29 points per game along with possessing a dangerous passing attack that has loads of potential.  I will give the edge to the road team in this matchup in that they also have the better defense overall as they are allowing only 14 points per game to their opponents while Notre Dame gives up 19.2 points.  With that being said, I happen to have more faith in Costello and the Stanford playmakers in this matchup as they continue to impress week after week.  I will back the Cardinal with the points at Notre Dame on Saturday in what will be a tough matchup.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 54

My reason for the prediction :

The under will certainly be the strong play in this matchup as I happen to feel as though this contest will be a tough, defensive struggle throughout.  Of course, both teams will grind out some points in the game, however, I will not bet on the total score ballooning over 54-points for this matchup as the under has been the play in four straight games in South Bend.
