Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Clemson Tigers vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons

The Clemson Tigers will travel to BB&T Field in Winston Salem, North Carolina, for an ACC matchup versus the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm EST.  Clemson is coming off a 27-23 home win versus the Syracuse Orange as they rallied in the second half after going down 16-7 at the half in outscoring Syracuse 20-7 to pick up the come from behind win.  Wake Forest, on the other hand, had their way with the Rice Owls in their last outing as the Demon Deacons went up 42-0 at the half while cruising to an easy 56-24 victory.  The Tigers picked up a 28-14 win in last year’s matchup in Winston Salem, yet, Wake has covered the spread in the last four matchups amongst these squads.  The Tigers are 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine meetings in Winston Salem.

Clemson Tigers's Latest Performance :

Andre Szmyt had three field goals in the first half while Eric Dungy scored on a one yard run to put Syracuse ahead early versus the Tigers last Saturday.  Travis Etienne posted the only score for the Tigers in the first half as he scored on a one-yard run in the first quarter.  And despite another Dungy run in the second half, Etienne’s two additional touchdown runs, with the last sealing the victory, helped the Tigers weather the storm and pick up their fifth win of the season.  Etienne ended with 203 yards on 27 carries along with three touchdown runs while Trevor Lawrence went ten of 15 for 95 yards in the win.  Hunter Renfroe only had 45 yards on three catches for Clemson as their offense had 469 yards total for the game.  Clemson lost two fumbles in this game, yet, thanks to the rushing game averaging 5.5 yards per carry, they were able to stay in the game throughout.  Dungy had 250 yards along with an interception in the loss for the Orange while the Clemson defense allowed them to only convert three of 15 conversions on third down.  QB Trevor Lawrence is questionable for this game with a with a neck injury.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons's Latest Performance :

Wake had 171 yards on the ground versus the Rice Owls last Saturday while averaging 12.2 yards per catch despite holding the ball for only 22:48 minutes in the game.  Sam Hartman threw for 241 yards with four touchdowns while Greg Dortch caught eleven passes for 163 yards and four scores.  Also, Christian Beal led the rushing attack with 60 yards on nine carries in the game.  The defense allowed 267 yards on the ground to Rice while its passing attack only mustered 107 total yards for the game on Wake’s 108th pass defense.  Finally, the Demon Deacons were able to collect three turnovers for the game while allowing Rice to convert seven for 18 third down conversions.  Things will certainly not get better for their dismal defense as corner back Luke Masterson is uncertain to play as he has an unspecified injury while offensive lineman Phil Haynes is also dealing with unspecified injuries and it is unsure if he will take the field this weekend.  The good news is their offense will have receiver Scotty Washington back in the lineup as is probable after dealing with an undisclosed injury.

How Clemson Tigers & Wake Forest Demon Deacons Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Wake Forest is 1-4 ATS while the O/U 4-1

Clemson is 1-4 ATS while the O/U is 2-3

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

While Clemson continues to pick up wins, they have not played as well versus the Demon Deacons in Winston Salem in the past.  As the trends state, they are 0-4 ATS in their last four meetings outside of Death Valley versus this team.  Also, Lawrence is dealing with neck issues, but, is expected to play in the game.  Nonetheless, Wake Forest is loving the fact that they have yet another chance to pull an upset versus a Clemson team that may have gotten caught looking ahead in their last matchup versus the Orange.  This will certainly be an interesting matchup to where Clemson will need to have a much better start than they did versus Syracuse.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Wake Forest +17.5

My reason for the pick :

I will back the home team in this contest since they are playing at BB&T Field in 2018.  Of course, Wake Forest has not done much this season to make one confident in backing them along with the points versus the Tigers, however, sometimes a team may simply have success versus another team without one knowing exactly why.  In all, this will be one of those instances as the Deacons will not win this game, but, will certainly give their fans something to cheer about throughout.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 62

My reason for the prediction :

I see this as being a low scoring affair in that Clemson may already be behind the eight-ball since it is not known as to how their starting quarterback will perform due to his recent injury.  On the other hand, I feel as though the home team will have the early momentum as they realize that the Tigers have not played them well in the past.  With that being said, do not expect the Demon Deacons to dominate the Tigers on Saturday, but, they will definitely score some points early.  Nonetheless, Clemson, of course, will stay in the game and pull out a victory while the total will not surpass 62 points.
