Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Missouri Tigers vs South Carolina Gamecocks

The Missouri Tigers will head east to Williams Brice stadium in Columbia, South Carolina, to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in week six SEC action beginning at 12 pm EST on Saturday.  The Tigers are coming off a deflating home loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in a 43-29 defeat while the Gamecocks would drop their matchup on the road versus a Kentucky team ranked 15th in the country by a 24-10 score.  The last time these two teams met was on September 89, 2017 when the Gamecocks picked up the 31-13 road win as three-point road underdogs while the total would not surpass the 71 points set for the matchup.  Nonetheless, the under is 6-0 in the last six meetings amongst these two squads.

Missouri Tigers's Latest Performance :

Missouri only converted four of 14 third down conversions for the game while having lost two fumbles along with throwing a pick at home against Georgia as they wasted opportunity after opportunity last Saturday on their way to a huge loss to Georgia.  Drew Lock threw for 221 yards along with an interception while Jake Fromm had three touchdown passes along with one interception for Georgia in the win.  Both teams had solid efforts in their respective rushing attacks as UGA collected 185 yards on the ground while the Tigers collected 172 yards for the game with Damarea Crockett having 67 yards and a touchdown.  The passing game for the Tigers averaged only 4.6 yards per pass play as Albert Okwuegbunam led the receiving corps with 81 yards on nine catches.  The defense played solid in allowing the Bulldogs 445 total yards for the game, however, the offense continually put them in tough positions due to turnovers.  Receivers Emmanuel Hall and Nate Brown are both probable for this game as they were dealing with groin injuries after the Georgia game while defensive lineman Rashard Brandon (ankle) and safety Cam Hilton (thumb) are also probable for Missouri’s defense that is now allowing 26.8 points per game.

South Carolina Gamecocks's Latest Performance :

South Carolina could only muster three points in the first half while Kentucky would get three rushing touchdowns with one being from star running back Benny Snell Jr to go up 24-3 at the half.  And despite getting a passing touchdown from Jake Bentley to Deebo Samuel midway through the third period, the Gamecocks never scored again as they fell to 1-2 in the east division of the SEC.  Bentley threw for 148 yards, a TD, along with three interceptions in the game while the rushing game averaged 3.8 yards per rush with Rico Dowdle leading the attack with 49 yards.  Finally, Samuel had two catches for 61 yards and a score for USC which averaged 5.7 yards per pass play in the loss.  The defense was pounded by the Wildcat rushing attack in allowing 221 yards for the day while only allowing 132 yards in the air to QB Terry Wilson, who also threw an interception for Kentucky.  Bentley is probable for this game after experiencing complications from a knee injury.

How Missouri Tigers & South Carolina Gamecocks Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Missouri is 3-1 ATS while the O/U is 3-0-1

USC is 2-2 ATS while the O/U is 2-2

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Missouri will certainly want to play well in this matchup to get over the horrible loss at home versus the Bulldogs.  On the other hand, the Gamecocks will want to play well after their dismal offense struggled, once again, versus the Wildcats last weekend.  The Gamecocks may find some success versus the Tigers as they allow 294 passing yards to their opponents per game; However, the 46th ranked USC passing attack has left much to be desired in its passing attack despite having some weapons at Bentley’s disposal.  Of course, Bentley may be dealing with some effects from his knee injury in this matchup; however, the Gamecocks are currently averaging 162 yards on the ground and will look to take advantage of a stout Missouri defensive front that is only allowing 102 yards per game.  In all, this will be a game versus two teams desperate for a win in which to stay relevant within their respective division.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  South Carolina Gamecocks -1

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Gamecocks in this matchup as Bentley will shake of the effects of his last game while exploiting Mizzou’s shaky secondary in getting some scores through the air.  Of course, they will need to keep the Tigers’ defense honest by sticking with the run with Dowdle, yet, Bentley must be able to pick his spots in this contest to provide the gamecocks opportunities to score.  The Tigers will be ready to play after their debacle at home versus the Bulldogs, as stated, but will begin to make mistakes late in this matchup, thus allowing the home team to cover in the end.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 64.5

My reason for the prediction :

The Tigers were tamed by the Bulldogs last week as they were only able to put up 29 points in the loss.  USC’s defense is certainly not as stout as Georgia’s, however, are ranked in the top 50 in points allowed per game with 23.5 points per outing.  With that being said, look for the Gamecocks to play solid defense versus Missouri this weekend as they have been known to cough up the football at critical points in the game.  Of course, USC’s offense will utilize their rushing attack in which to set up their passing game which will be met with similar results:  A low-scoring and competitive contests to where the under will be the play as has been the case for the past two games for the Cocks.  Also, rain is expected for this matchup so both teams will rely heavily on their rushing attack to move the ball.
