Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Texas Tech Red Raiders vs TCU Horned Frogs
The Red Raiders of Texas Tech will travel to Amon G Carter Stadium in Fort Worth Texas, for a Big 12 battle versus the TCU Horned Frogs on Thursday night beginning at 7:30 pm EST. The Horned Frogs picked up the 17-14 home win over the Iowa State Cyclones in their last time out, however, lost their quarterback Shawn Robinson during the contest and is uncertain as to whether he will play in this matchup. The Red Raiders fell at home to the 8th ranked West Virginia Mountaineers in their last outing by a score of 42-34 as WVU began the game by putting up 28 points in the first quarter en route to a huge conference win. The last time these two teams met was on November 18, 2017 when the Horned Frogs picked up the 27-3 road win as they covered as 6.5 road favorites. Texas Tech cashed in on the spread in two of the last three matchups while the under was the play in two of the last three games, overall.
Texas Tech Red Raiders's Latest Performance :
The Red Raiders got a huge dose of their own medicine in their last outing as West Virginia’s Will Grier threw three touchdown passes in the first half to allow the road team to go up 35-10 at the break while its 122nd ranked pass defense allowed the Mountaineers 370 yards for the game. West Virginia did not turn the ball over in this matchup while converting on half of their third down conversion attempts in the huge conference victory. Texas Tech collected only 295 yards in the air as Alan Bowman and company came well short of their 400 yard per game average in the passing game as he passed for 123 yards and a score along with a pick while Jett Duffy also had some time under center in throwing for 172 yards, a TD, along with two picks. Antoine Wesley paced the receiving corps with 110 yards on eight catches while Ja’Deion High also had 105 yards on six carries in defeat. The rushing attack racked up 168 yards in the loss with Duffy having 86 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. Duffy will remain the starter for the Red Raiders as Bowman suffered a collapsed lung in their last outing and is scheduled to be out for some time.
TCU Horned Frogs's Latest Performance :
TCU may not only be without Shawn Robinson in this game with a shoulder injury, but, also wide receiver KaVontae Turpin is also dealing with an undisclosed injury yet is probable for this matchup. Offensive lineman Cordel Iwaugwu is also questionable with an undisclosed injury for the Horned Frogs. This will certainly have an impact on an offense that only racked up 299 yards versus the Cyclones’ solid defense in week five. They also committed three turnovers for the game with two fumbles and an interception. The 57th ranked rushing attack for TCU, however, collected 117 yards on the ground with Sewo Oloniluwa having 66 yards on 18 rushes yet the total was over fifty yards under their average of 188 yards per game. Nonetheless, the team halted a two-game skid by beating Iowa State and will look to shake off some critical injuries in which to win their second straight versus a Texas Tech team ranked in the top 50 in defending the rush yet allows over 300 yards in the air to their opponents per game.
How Texas Tech Red Raiders & TCU Horned Frogs Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Texas Tech is 3-2 ATS while the O/U is 4-1
TCU is 2-3 ATS while the O/U is 2-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Red Raiders season took a turn for the worst versus the Mountaineers. Not only did they lose the game, but, also a QB that already passed for 1680 yards for the season. Also, receiver TJ Vasher (273 yards, 3 TD’s) is suffering from a knee injury, yet is probable for this matchup as they will need all the help they can get in bringing along the Sophomore Duffy who replaces a once potential Heisman candidate in Bowman. The Horned Frogs are also having issues at quarterback as Robinson may also not suit up due to his shoulder injury, thus affecting an offense that has struggled in its last two outings in averaging only 16.5 games while putting up 32 points per game in their three prior matchups.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Texas Tech Red Raiders (off)
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Red Raiders in this matchup in that they certainly have more playmakers around their second string QB that can bring him along much more effectively in Bowman’s absence. However, things will not come easy as the Horned Frogs are allowing opponents to score only 21 points per game while the pass/rush defense is ranked in the top 35 in the nation. Nonetheless, the Red Raiders are ranked 8th in scoring offense with 48 points per game while also being ranked in the top ten in yards per game (590) along with passing yards per game with 408 yards. In all, expect them to find a way to pull out a tough and hard-fought victory in what will be a defensive struggle throughout versus TCU on Thursday.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under (off)
My reason for the prediction :
Again, while the red Raiders are currently given up many more points to their opponents than TCU, both teams will be without critical pieces to their offense in this matchup which means the output for the offense will struggled. Also, combine this with the fact that both defenses will be called to step up due to injuries on the offensive end, expect this to be a defensive game to where scores will be far and few in between.
