Vanderbilt Commodores vs Georgia Bulldogs
The Vanderbilt Commodores will travel to Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia, to take on the 2nd ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night at 7:30 pm EST. October 7, 2017 is the last time these two teams met when the Bulldogs picked up the 45-14 road win to where they covered the spread as 17-point favorites while the over was the play with the total being set at 40.5 points for the game. The Commodores picked up the 31-27 home win over the Tennessee State Tigers last Saturday as they failed to cover the spread as 28.5 points home favorites while the Bulldogs destroyed the Volunteers of Tennessee at home by a 38-12 score as they went into the half with a 17-0 lead while outscoring the Vols 21-12 in the second to cruise to victory. The underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings amongst these squads while Vandy is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, overall.
Vanderbilt Commodores 's Latest Performance :
The Commodores certainly did not play their best game in week five versus the Tigers of Tennessee State as they went down at the half by three points while edging the road team in the second half 21-14 to get the win. In fact, Vandy would need a late rally to win the game after the Tigers scored on a Demry Croft one-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Knox that allowed them to regain the lead 27-24 with 8 minutes remaining in the game. Nonetheless, Kyle Shurmur found Kalija Lipscomb for a 68-yard pass to seal the victory with only 6:20 remaining in the game. The defense allowed the Tigers 3 yards per carry for the game while Croft passed for 269 yards with three touchdowns in the win. Vandy also allowed the road team to convert seven of fourteen third down conversions for the game. On the other hand, the offense for the Commodores was led by Ke’Shawn Vaughn who had 146 yards and a TD while Shurmur finished with 297 yards along with three touchdowns passes and an interception. Lipscomb ended the game with 174 yards on nine catches and two scores for an offense that racked up 553 yards total.
Georgia Bulldogs 's Latest Performance :
Georgia got 251 yards total in their home win over Tennessee in week five as D’Andre Swift and Justin Fields combined for four touchdown runs while Jake Fromm passed for 195 yards total in the win as the Bulldogs held the ball for 37:27 minutes while converting eight of 14 third down conversions as they preceded to destroy the Vols to pick up their 5th win of the season. In the Bulldogs’ last three home games, opponents have averaged only 6.3 points per game while the offense put up a combined 132 points during this time. In other words, Vanderbilt, who is allowing only 21 points per game to their opponents for the year while the offense is putting up a total of 28 points per game on average, must be able to play one of their best games of the year in which to have a chance to win this matchup on Saturday.
How Vanderbilt Commodores & Georgia Bulldogs Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Vanderbilt is 302 ATS while the OU is 1-4
Georgia Bulldogs is 2-3 ATS while the OU is 2-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Georgia continues to roll in 2018 on the strength of their rushing attack while the Commodores, after winning their first two games of the year, have been up and down primarily due to their inability to remaining consistent on the offensive end as they were earlier in the season. Shurmur and company will certainly need to bring the focus versus a Georgia pass defense that allows 167 passing yards per game, good for 17th in the nation while their running game, averaging 164 yards per outing, must be able to open some holes for Vaughn in this matchup. However, it will not be easy to accomplish this as UGA only allows 108 yards per game to their opponents.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Vanderbilt Commodores +26.5
My reason for the pick :
While Georgia has continued to rack up wins early on, they have not been stellar versus the spread this season. In fact, they have not cashed in on the spread in their last two outings. With that being the case, with Vandy being 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings amongst these two teams, I will back the road team in this game as they certainly are due for a much better outing after they stunk it up versus Tennessee State in week five. Though it will not be easy, the Commodores have some playmakers on the offensive end to make this game interesting while having a defense that is ranked 36th in the country in points allowed. In all, this game may be a bit more interesting than one may think in the end.
Totals Selection: Pick: under 54.5
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the under in this contest as it has been the play in each of the Bulldogs home games this season while also being the play in four of five games for Vandy as well. As stated, Vanderbilt has playmakers on the offensive end to make this game tight in the end, and I feel as though they will put some points on the board early while competing within the trenches to prevent the Bulldogs from running roughshod over their rush defense that is allowing 154 yards per game. Look for the under to be the strong play in this matchup as the Commodores certainly need some confidence moving forward. With that being said, what better team to gain momentum against than the second ranked team in the country.
